Thanks to Cameron and NetGalley for allowing me to read A Stranger on Board before the publication date.
Ex Royal Marine Sarah French is living with PTSD and panic attacks following her experiences during her last tour of duty.
Mitch, an ex Royal Marine has started a security company providing military trained personnel. A new client asks for a security detail to accompany the superyacht, Escape, from Majorca to Antigua where it will undergo the final fit out. Mitch offers the position to Sarah.
No sooner has she arrived on board than the captain announces that they will sail early.
It is not long before she realises that work which should have been completed in Majorca has not been done. There is also secrecy about crates which were brought on board immediately before the yacht sailed.
As Escape heads into the Atlantic, tensions are rising among the skeleton crew.
A storm is forecast but the captain refuses to change route, heading straight into the storm.
When a member of the crew goes missing, Sarah is forced to the conclusion that there is a killer on board.
No longer does Sarah have her forces family to rely on, instead she has to call on all her training and a discordinated crew to save the superyacht and those on board.
This was an unusual book which I thoroughly enjoyed.

A fast paced thriller which was okay but not especially compelling. For me, there wasn’t enough intrigue and variety in the story about a super yacht with someone on board intent on causing trouble and the characters were not particularly interesting to me. It was predictable and forgettable. With thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an advance copy to read and review.

Loved this one. A murderer on board a luxury yacht. Full of twists and turns. Fast paced. A terrific read. Will read more Cameron Ward for sure.

Puts the reader on edge almost from the beginning. What could be more simple, or welcome. A paid job for Sarah, formerly with the military and now taking time to try to recover; recover from the horrors of the war in Afghanistan and the loss of her partner. The job comes via a former colleague: a luxury yacht is to be delivered to the owner after some upgrades. The task for Sarah is simply to sail along as Security; with the minimum crew, she can take time to reflect and recover. She doesn't even have to make friends, just nurse her bruised soul. Well. Best laid plans, and all that.

Another really fun thriller with very classic murder mystery thriller vibes! Definitely gave me the same sort of vibes as The Holiday by T M Logan which I absolutely loved!!
Didn’t warm to the characters too much but the plot itself was pretty good and was an easy and enjoyable read!

This is a good story but possibly not quite in my area of interest. Having said that, it was well written and made me want to finish the book and reach the conclusion of the story

An engaging read with relatable characters, I felt it was abit of a slow burning. It was a good mystery in the who done it sense with an unreliable narrator. But I did enjoy the fact that the main character was a strong female even thought she was a little repetitive.

I loved this book, what a page turner, I was hooked from the start! Good to see a strong female lead character and the rest of the cast are well-rounded individuals – some you are on-side with, some a little bit mean and you’re sure are the killer … but be prepared to be proved wrong! I’ll definitely look out for more form Cameron Ward. This has to be one of my most enjoyable reads of 2022. 5*

3.5 stars rounds up to 4.
Sarah, an ex-royal Marine, is hired to act as protection on a superyacht. What is supposed to be a relaxing trip across the Atlantic to help her address the reason she left the Royal Marines turns into something much more dangerous. Suddenly equipment is getting damaged, people are going missing and it’s a race against time to reach their destination.
The book was a claustrophobic thriller, Sarah was a complex and damaged central character. Unfortunately with a limited cast of characters and some obvious early signposting the enemy within was fairly obvious. It was still overall an enjoyable story and I will definitely look out for more from this author in future.

A fantastic holiday read. Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time, though there were definitely a few clues I picked up on here and there. Perfect for an armchair detective.

I loved this book.... you knew something was going to happen but what happened was not what I expected!!! Brilliantly written, I had to keep reading as I just needed to know what happened next! And it kept me guessing throughout.

Sarah has been a marine, but left after a traumatic incident in Afghanistan where her soulmate was killed. She is now working in security and has been employed to provide security on a multimillionaire's yacht . However from the start, the voyage does not go to plan. Sarah realizes early on that things are not right, but cannot work out exactly why and who she can trust on board.
In the first couple of days, things start to go wrong and then the captain disappears. Suspense builds up as more people go missing, but Sarah has the fighting and strategy advantage of her time in the marines. Little by little she becomes involved on a personal level with others onboard.
I liked the fast paced action aspect of the book and the plot was well thought out. A great read
Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

Whilst this book was definitely a slow burner, I did really enjoy it. It’s the first thriller I’ve read set entirely on a super yacht and I loved the whole ‘we’re trapped here’ feel to it. I did figure out who the killer was very early on but that didn’t stop me enjoying it at all.

Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book. A Stranger on Board by Cameron Ward is a fast-moving thriller set on board a luxury superyacht "Escape." For supposed insurance purposes the voyage has on board Sarah - ex military security advisor who has her work cut out as things start to go wrong with the ship. Is this because of the hurried departure from dock or sabotage? There is an assortment of crew on board and two guests - and one by one they start to go missing, presumed overboard. Early on in the book there is a clue flagged up for fans of the “Die Hard” movies and, true to the spirit of that franchise, things start to get very messy. A fast moving, suspenseful read - thoroughly recommended.

Thoroughly enjoyed reading this thriller set on a luxury yacht! Sarah French is an ex-marine trying to get her life back on track but life is far from simple on the yacht! I couldn’t put this book down as I got absorbed in all the twists and turns and couldn’t wait to find out who was the guilty party!
Would be an awesome book to read on your Summer holiday I reckon!

I am afraid that I struggled with this book. I found it to be very slow, not good for an impatient reader like me. I feel very disappointed because I loved the sound of the book, hope others enjoy it more.

It's supposed to be an easy job, security on a superyacht, just delivering it after refurbishment, only needed for the insurance, perfect to get Sarah back in the saddle again! And Sarah is well qualified to provide the security, ex-Royal Marine, well battle hardened.
Needless-to-say all does not go to plan and in a multilayered story that's twisty throughout we're kept guessing and, although the story takes time to unfold, we're kept turning the pages. Sarah is a strong main character and I wouldn't be surprised if she gets another assignment.
With thanks to Netgalley for the ARC.

Sarah has left the Marines and is suffering from PTSD. A former colleague who runs a security firm offers her an easy job as security on a luxury super-yacht, being delivered to the Caribbean. All she has to do is enjoy the luxury and the sun while she recovers. Once they set sail, though, everything starts to go wrong. One of the crew goes missing, strange things happen and the crew becomes dysfunctional. Sarah has to protect the yacht and the remaining crew but doesn’t know who she can trust. This is a pacey thriller giving a glimpse of the luxurious lives of the super-rich. Sarah is great as a strong female lead ready to take on any threat and fight but her PTSD at times makes her vulnerable. There were times I expected her to ask a few more questions but I guess that wouldn’t have made such a good story. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

When ex-marine Sarah French joins a luxury superyacht as on-board security, she's excited to get her life - and career - back on track.
The story was OK, to be honest I've read a similar book before so I'm probably the wrong audience for this book.
It was well written though.

What a great twisty thriller, I almost read it in one sitting. Not my usual sort of genre but this one grabbed me and took me on a thrilling ride.
