This is such a lovely book. It is written very well and has amazing illustrations. It is perfect for both adults and children
I really enjoyed reading this children's book, which is a Little People, Big Dreams treasury of a lot of different inspirational people, such as Frida Kahlo, Coco Chanel, Maya Angelou, Amelia Earhart, David Attenborough, Elton John, John Lennon, Malala Yousafzai, Mindy Kaling, and Prince.
The book is packed full of really interesting information and inspirational facts, set out beautifully with easy to read text and beautiful images, which makes reading delightful.
I loved this book, and I recommend highly!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
Little People Big Dreams Treasury by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara is a collection of 50 of the LPBD books, including Maya Angelou, Elton John, David Attenborough, and Amelia Earhart, among many more!
I appreciate that the author handled certain parts of people's lives with gentleness and compassion. That's been the case with many of the people who've been covered in this series.
The entire Little People, Big Dreams series is an awesome introduction to biographical reading for young audiences. Not only that, but they focus on the most inspirational of people from science, entertainment, sports, politics and more. It's also a very diverse series.
At the end is a section with more detailed information on life, suitable for older readers. Inspirational and educational both, this entire series is great, and full of delightful art to engage younger audiences! Highly recommended!
A stunning collection for children, especially fans of the Little People, Big Dreams series. This beautifully bound books stole our hearts straight away and became an instant wish list item, now purchased for a special occasion. It’s lovely to dip into and a gorgeous keepsake for older children who want to find out that little bit more about their favourite inspirational heroes.
This book has everything you need for children at home or at school to learn about some of the world's most important figures.
It has artists, inventors, women's rights, figures that battled and overcame racism and the list goes on.
The stories are all encapsulated in one thick tome and each story is illustrated differently - so no two stories look the same.
A beautiful and inspiring book.
My class love the Little People, Big Dreams series & I think this is a wonderful idea to have a treasury. I can’t wait to show this to my class. They will love it. Definitely recommend.
This book provides a short insight into the lives of 50 extraordinary women and men, starting with writer Mary Shelley (born 225 years ago) and ending with activist Greta Thunberg.
For each of the "brilliant dreamers" there is a short biographical essay, a portrait and a timeline with the most important events in their lives. Of course this includes only the most basic facts, but it is a very good starting point for children to get familiar with some very important people of the last centuries.
This treasury is amazing! A great addition to the collection to have some great people all in one book.
Highly recommend as an addition to your library.
An amazing idea from the creators of this beautiful series. It is a compendium of many of the favourite and most popular stories from this series shortened to a page or two. There is the same gorgeous illustrations and beautiful storytelling. A perfect gift for a small person in your life for many a bedtime story.
A great selection of books from the Little People Big Dreams series, all brought together in one collection. Split into different periods of history based upon when the figures depicted were born, each person represented has a page biography - using words from the original books, an illustrated portrait with a quote from the person and a double page spread showing a timeline of their life including photographs and illustrations from the books. This would be a great reference point for teachers, or for older readers wanting to learn about lots of different historical figures.
We adore the Little People Big Dreams picture books so when I saw this anthology for older children I was certain I would love it. And I was right!
Shown in chronological order each double page spread of the shares a short biography of the influential person's life, followed by a full page spread in portrait style of the individual. The next double-page then features a timeline of their life and often details a connection to one of the other individual in the book - either where their lives may have overlapped or a connection to someone else doing something inspired by, or similar to the others' achievements. I really enjoyed this weaving and linking of the stories.
Capturing all the magic of the stories told in the picture books, this anthology is a truly wonderful read. From activists to scientists to artists to explorers to musicians and more, there is a huge variety of interests and passions under the spotlight. The variety of illustrations throughout by the different illustrators is fascinating and really brings to life the uniqueness of each individual. The writing is engaging and lively and will make readers want to learn more about the lives of the influential people included.
Thanks you to Netgally for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. My daughter loves the series of Little People Big Dreams and I love reading them to her and often learn something new too. This treasurey is split into time sections and has a shortened version of the history of people born in that timeline. I would say it is written for an older audience but was still lovely. There were great pictures and lots of interesting information about the people featured. Me and my daughter enjoyed reading this together and its great to find something that captures her imagination whilst learning. Highly recommended.
This book is so much more than what I expected. The Little People Big Dreams books are an autobuy for me, my 6yo daughter absolutely loves them. We have many as ebooks, and a number of physical books. When we head to the library they're the first books that she looks for to check if there's any new titles she's not yet read. This book seems to be aimed at a slightly older audience.
This book is broken up into 5 sections
1790-1885
1885-1920
1920-1940
1940-1947
1947-2003
Each section contains 10 people who were born during that time, all of whom have their own separate books for younger children.
Each person has their own 2 page spread, the first page contains a bigraphy and a hand drawn picture, with a quote from the person. The second page contains a timeline of significant events within their life.
Unfortunately, this was too old for my daughter to enjoy. But I loved it! I can't wait until she's a couple of years older as I'm sure she'll treasure this. .
This is an amazing series of books and wrapping these up in a treasury is a beautiful and wonderful gift! I can’t recommend this enough I find the stories fascinating as do my children
Perfect little snapshots of amazing people. Informative for adults as well as children. Such a great read for everyone.
My thanks to Quarto Group - Francis Lincoln Children’s Books for a temporary digital edition via NetGalley of ‘Little People BIG DREAMS Treasury’ by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara in exchange for an honest review.
I am a huge fan of the publishers’ series of mini-biographies, so was intrigued by this Treasury that compiles 50 individual profiles. All but three were written by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with the others written by Lizbeth Kaiser. The Treasury is listed for readers aged 9-12 years old and the individual profiles have been rewritten to be appropriate for this older readership.
The Treasury is set out in five distinct historical periods each containing ten profiles of noted artists, designers, musicians, activists, actors, sports people, politicians, writers and the like.
The layout follows a set pattern of four pages for each profile. The first page contains the revised summary for each dreamer and on its opposite page a portrait illustration accompanied by an inspirational quote. The next two pages show a personal timeline with more text and both illustrations and photographs (or portraits for the earlier profiles) at key dates.
Following the profiles there is a glossary, an index, and picture credits for each profile.
This was an inspiring collection that was a pleasure to read through. Along with those parents and the like seeking to encourage young readers in nonfiction, this book is bound to also be of interest to educators and librarians.
Highly recommended.
I love this whole range of books, so having lots all in one place is a brilliant idea.
The book had mini stories about 50 influential people and gave a page of info about them, and how they were known etc, then there was a timeline of when they were born up to when they died, with everything they did in between.
Great book which has just the Perfect amount of information to keep it interesting for younger readers.
5☆ A Superb Treasury of Inspirational People throughout History. A Must Read!
I am a big fan of this gorgeous series of children's books. If you haven't yet seen the books then I highly recommend you do.
This time round this amazing book is a Treasury full of influential people throughout history to present day, that has helped shape the world. Whether it be Activists, Writers, Womens Rights, Scientists, Explorers, Doctors, Civil Rights Leaders, Conservationists, Actors/Singers etc...
Each Person has their own short biography then a time line written with pictures and text.
I absolutely loved this idea as not only are you getting to read about each person, you are also seeing how they achieved incredible things throughout the years.
Spanning from 1790 - Present Day.
I have learnt so much already from this book. I have discovered people I hadn't ever heard of and learnt new things about people I was already familiar with.
The information is just the right length, I loved the added additions of pictures and illustrations for each person, and also the one memorable & inspirational quote from each person was a lovely touch.
Little People, BIG DREAMS: Treasury should be featured in all schools, as I think this book has such a variety of inspirational individuals, that it's very empowering and educational, in a fun and engaging way.
As I said before if you haven't yet had the pleasure of reading these wonderful collections, then I highly recommend you start with this book!
It has something for everyone and is truly a beautiful book suitable for adults and children, and would make a lovely gift.
I absolutely adore the Little People, Big Dreams series and this treasury, comprised of 50 biographies, is a fantastic addition to the series. Filled with glorious illustrations, these texts are a fabulous springboard for classroom discussion. I love how they cover such a broad range of famous faces, from scientists to musicians.
I particularly love the layout of this treasury - biographies are presented in chronological order, with a timeline showing the major events in each person’s life, along with links to other famous faces. It is packed to the brim with inspirational stories and I love the quotes under each picture.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC - I would recommend a copy of this book be available in every classroom. Not only does it enrich cultural capital, but it also develops historical understanding and emphasises important morals and lessons for life.
I love this series! What a great idea to put 50 of these singular biographies into a treasury, featuring a wide range inspirational people, men and women, in different fields. Each of the entries contains a portrait, a short biography and a timeline. This will make a beautiful Christmas gift.
These biographies are age appropriate; inspiring and interesting, but not overwhelming. They have bright, beautiful illustrations, striking covers, and look great on a shelf together. I love the diversity of the people featured in this series. Artists, athletes, authors, activists, actors, explorers, entertainers, musicians and scientists.
Thank you NetGalley and Frances Lincoln Children's Books for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
