I thought A Window Breaks was good but The Interview went to another level! I could not put this down - I had to read it until I finished it.
I was interested in Kate from the beginning. She clearly had a back story which made her very nervous to be going for an interview for a new job. It was obvious she had been pushed into applying for this position. As the interview progresses her strength of character emerges instead of the nervous, insecure character who begins the interview.
A real page turner! Edge of the seat!
Many thanks to Netgalley/C.M. Ewan/Pan Macmillan for a digital copy of this title. All opinions expressed are my own.
I've got mixed feelings about this book.
I was certainly intrigued by the premise of the book. What was that seemingly impossible interview question going to be?
I got a bit of a sinking feeling when I wondered if the whole book was just going to be in this office, the interviewer and interviewee - and it's a long book. I needn't have worried, although this is the core of the book there are some other characters thank goodness.
Fast paced with the action but at times a slow moving plot meant I did begin to scan read some of it. I'm not one for over detailed descriptions of what is happening and if that is your thing then this will be ideal for you. Belief has to be suspended at times, but I was happy to go along with it.
I had an inkling about a couple of things and was partially right, but not for the right reason. There was a big shock and actually for me that's when the book lost some of it's traction. However, that didn't stop me racing through it to find out what the outcome of "the interview" would be.
A real page turner! Loved this book. It kept you guessing and wondering what the end result was going to be. I was glad I had no interviews lined up! It was a well thought out storyline and kept your interest through to the end. Highly recommendable.
A woman goes for an interview for a high sounding job but when some of the questions are inappropriate she begins to feel uneasy.
The tension really racks up as we don’t know what ulterior motive there might be, if there is one. And why her?
I raced through this book to find out what happened and why
This book had me hooked from page one! Sharp and engaging narrative throughout and plenty of twists and intriguing sub-plots. A story like this requires skill to sustain and CM Ewan certainly has this in abundance. I loved everything about it. The character development, the narrative, the dialogue and the cleverly-executed plot. This is a book to read in one sitting because you just can’t wait to get to the end to solve the mystery!
The Interview is a compelling and intense thriller. There is a balance of action, some violent and psychological suspense that keeps the reader riveted. A young woman goes for an interview at a prestigious PR company in their ultra-modern offices. She is nervous, and it's clear from the start she is anxious about the interview and if she is ready to do the job if she gets it. The building is only partly occupied and very high-tech. The setting is integral to the story.
There are only a few characters, but they are all impactful. The plot is twisty but believable and explores contemporary themes. The conclusion is adrenaline-fueled, poignant and satisfying.
I received a copy of this book from Pan Macmillan for an honest review.
Let me start by saying I was intrigued by the blurb because let’s face it, interviews are not fun. Especially not when you are applying for your ‘dream job’. Kate Harding is a marketing professional and in marketing, everything has to be perfect. Kate is suffering from a personal tragedy and is not even looking for another job, but somehow she lets herself sent to this gleaming office tower. Perfect, you would say. And yes, when she is left in an office, locked up without any resources and fearing for her life, you want to know what’s happening and how she can save herself.
The reason I didn’t like the book much was firstly, because of what I said in the above. In marketing, everything has to be perfect. But at the same time, everything is superficial. It’s all about selling really. Whether it’s an idea (you’ll feel great when you buy our product) or trying to convince you that you really, really need a new and very expensive computer/phone/car each year. I’ve worked in this business too for a few years but I couldn’t do it anymore. (Of course there is useful marketing too, but that’s not what this story is about.) Secondly, the story actually starts slowly and by the time it picked up the pace, I already had lost interest. There are too many things going on and a great deal of those things are very hard to believe.
I finished the book because the author has a very engaging style that makes you want to read along although you don’t like the story much. That’s very skillfully done! I hope to read another book by this author, with the same quality of writing but a more interesting story.
3.5 stars
Kate has an evening interview for her dream job in the city. But when she meets her interviewer and as the meeting goes on, something doesn't feel quite right.
I don't want to say more as I think the less you know going in the better!
The beginning of this book really sucked me in and I was very intrigued with what was happening and why. It did feel like it dipped a little in the middle, but it was definitely a clever story that needs you to suspend you beliefs a little as parts are a bit far-fetched, but sometimes that is a good thing!
Thank you to #NetGalley for the advance copy of #TheInterview by #CMEwan
Although this book started out brilliantly I found it went on too long and lost my attention in the middle so I skipped to the last few pages.
In theory this should be a great book and I’m sure some readers will rave about it but not for me.
⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Interview is a fast paced, psychological thriller that I did enjoy reading but felt it was a little over long in places. I found it to be a good read but it did not grip me quite as much as I had hoped it would.
Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for my ARC.
This book started off so well, the premise was fascinating, or so I thought. Then as it progressed it became less and less believable, and more and more violent. The plot, if there was one, was just plain daft. Not for me, this one. A DNF sadly.
My thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for my advance copy of this title.
The Interview by C. M Ewan is a 5 ⭐️ read.
This is a thrilling psychological read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. This book has everything you would want in a great read.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book through Netgalley.
It’s 5 p.m. on a Friday.
You have been called to an interview for your dream job.
In a stunning office thirteen floors above the city below, you are all alone with the man interviewing you.
Everyone else has gone home for the weekend.
The interview gets more and more disturbing.
You’re feeling scared.
Your only way out is to answer a seemingly impossible question.
If you can’t . . . what happens next?
This is a thrilling psychological read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.
I was provided an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher. This is my own hone\st voluntary review
For me, this was a fast paced, action packed psychological thriller and a real page turner. There was twist after twist after twist after twist. I could really imagine what it would have felt like to be trapped in that building and I’m so pleased I haven’t got an interview lined up as I don’t think I could do it now! It’s the author’s second novel and I will certainly be putting his first on my tbr list. This would make a really great TV drama. Thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for letting me read and review this book.
Who'd have thought it was possible to weave a complex and thrilling story around the premise of a simple job interview? That's exactly what has been done here. I loved this book as the story was so different and incorporated mystery, thriller and murder in one neat little package. Highly recommend this book and can't wait to read more by this author.
This is such a fast paced and fantastically written mind changer of a book.
It has everything you want from a psychological thriller.
Kate Harding is running late for her 5pm dream job interview at Edge Communications.
The problems start almost immediately when she realised that she and just the interviewer are the only ones left in the building. It's a Friday afternoon and everyone has gone home for the weekend.
This book reads over a few hours of narration and its heart stoppingly brilliant.
As with every interview there are questions but what happens if you answered one incorrectly? Not much right? You would be completely wrong and with deadly consequences.
"I call it conviction… The courage to do what has to be done when it needs to be done."

It has been a while since I read a psychological thriller, the last being some 17 books ago. This cover and blurb were quick to catch my attention.
Kate Harding is late for her 5pm interview at Edge Communications, one her recruitment agent has set up for her. The opulent lobby at 55 Ludgate Hill is stunning but the sirens in her head start ringing when she realises she has walked into a trap.
The events of this book take place over the course of a few hours. I’d imagined many scenarios for this plot but none of them came close to how the events eventually played out. The story moves quickly and the short chapters keep the momentum going. I won’t deny some of it was downright scary and I had to consciously remind myself this was fiction.
I would be remiss if I reveal any more details but I will say this is an intense thriller with an unusual storyline. The escape room scenario and interview/interrogation scenes are near terrifying but are also the reason why I enjoyed reading it.
I definitely recommend this for the thriller aficionados. For others – beware, it involves a lot of heart-stopping moments and is excruciatingly tense.

Rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟1/2.
You have the classic element of a main character with secrets, which always makes for an interesting and suspenseful read. I like that it’s all set in such a short space of time, which makes it much more tense and has you on the edge of your seat, for the most part. Unfortunately it did in places seem to drag a bit, it felt like an incredibly long book with 100+ chapters, and that the main plot got a bit lost at times
First book I’ve read by C.M.Ewan and I must say what a thrilling albeit slightly fantastical story it was.
Kate is in a bit of a slump and by way of a recruitment agency is offered an interview for the job of her dreams. The interview is at 5pm in an impressive new building in London’s business district. She meets up with Joel who introduces her to a few of the staff who are heading off to enjoy their weekend. Soon it is only the two of them left and Kate starts to feel slightly uneasy.
What happens next is far fetched at times but it’s a thrilling scary ride with a killer twist at the end.
Overall a good experience.
Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. I found it to be an engaging read that was well written and told from two points of view. It developed the story well, which was a little unrealistic but nonetheless engrossing, and it certainly held my attention right to the end. I’d recommend as a good read.,
