The Interview by C M Ewan will definitely make you think twice before you make your next job application!
The storyline is fairly far fetched but moves at a good pace and keeps you fully entertained with nothing being what it seems.
Highly enjoyable
I'm not sure what you would make of this if you rea looking for a job at the moment. This was a fun read. Think of The Apprentice on Acid with a bit of the Taskmaster thrown in. That's just the start.....
The kind of book you can't say much about without giving a spoiler so I would prepare for this book the exact opposite of preparing for an interview in that you should just go in blind.
A thrilling and messing with your mind of read!
I love stories that keep surprising you and the sense I felt while reading this was incredible
Fantatsic story with so many twists and turns, it is impossible to put down as you need to know what is going to be the outcome. Most random interview I have ever been on...
Not my usual type of genre but it’s always good to try new things. So glad that I did, it was a gripping book that made me want to keep turning the pages! Well done.
Oh, this has been a delight to read! I have really enjoyed the twists and turns in this novel and it has ignited my reading spark again. So thank you for that!. C.M. Ewan knows how to write thriller novels.
I have read this author before and although I enjoyed the previous book I want 100% sure that I would like this book and it was ages before I started it. Once I did I gobbled it up. A real improvement- just great.
Okay, so this does get rather ridiculous towards the end, but it's so much fun you don't really care. If you enjoy grand, far reaching conspiracy theories turning out to be true, you'll love this suspenseful thriller, but if you struggle to suspend disbelief, this one's probably not for you.
Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC without obligation.
I loved the first novel by this author that I read (A Window Breaks) so when I received “The Interview” I couldn’t wait to get started. The novel began well enough, and I was looking forward to a twisty story with lots of surprises. It quickly became a tedious read with the most unbelievable scenarios occurring.
I loved the premise: a corporate company using spies to get information to protect itself. I just think so much more could have been done with the characters and setting. I got bored with Kate trying and failing to escape all the time, and none of the characters made any impact on me. I made no emotional connection with any of them so by the time the end of the novel came, I was quite relieved.
I wanted to love this story, I really did. I just can’t.

5 Stars from me
I read this beauty in a day, had so much else to do but just couldn't put it down.
What an absolute headf*** of a book!
I started the book wondering why it was called 'The Interview' when a whole entire book couldn't just be about an interview surely, could it?
C M Ewan has created a tense and tightly focused story that had me absolutely hooked and deeply invested in the outcome. Kate is a great character, it was hard to imagine what I would have done in her situation.
I've seen a negative review of this book saying that how unrealistic it is... well durr, that's what makes it such an exciting story! Of course it (hopefully) wouldn't ever happen but then hey that didn't do The Matrix or Harry Potter any harm did it!
So yes, Kate is a good character, so is Joel for that matter, and I had conflicting thoughts about him throughout the story. Her brother and his storyline was good too - a nice little side distraction from the tension of the the interview.
I would recommend reading the book over as short a period as possible, I couldn't possibly have this as a book that I read for 15 mins or so here and there - mainly as I couldn't put the damn thing down!
Oh my goodness! When Kate attends an ordinary job interview things soon spirals to chaos as a hidden agenda comes to light.
Already traumatised by the death of her husband Mark in an aeroplane crash she has come to the place where she feels it is time to move on with her life. It seems someone else has another idea however and she finds herself fighting for her life.
A page turner to the end, Chris Ewan has again grasped his readers and taken them on a roller coaster from start to finish.
I am so glad I have finished this book because now I can breathe again!
What a fast paced, heart pounding roller-coaster ride it was! A thriller with a V8 engine that revved the tension up so fast I couldn't put it down. Just one more chapter, then another, and before I knew it it was the early hours of the morning and I had finished it. Chris Ewan you owe me a couple of finger nails and a few hours sleep!!
If you are looking for a totally addictive thriller with tense relentless action then look no further.
Highly recommended!
I read this ARC for an honest review
All thoughts and opinions are mine
This is a new author to me
This is not my usual fare but WOW - I found this totally immersive and compelling
I absolutely loved this
Even if thrillers are not your thing, you should read this
Wow! This was a brilliant book. Absolutely compelling thriller. I found myself holding my breath as I read it. Beautifully written and captured my imagination. I was hooked from the beginning to the very end. I just loved how the story unfolded revealing each of the characters and the reasons for the abduction and dreadful torture of someone who thought they were being interviewed for their dream job. So many twists and turns. A real page turner with a tremendous story line.
Im not sure if its just the way the arc of this book was but it was all over the place and I was confused.
The Interview by C M Ewan - an edge of the seat thriller not to be missed. Publishing Feb 2022, Kate is invited to her dream job interview at 5pm on a Friday evening on the 13th floor in a stunning office block in the city. What follows is a disturbing, thrilling twisty turny tale of entrapment with devastating consequences. 📚 pull an all nighter, you won't be able to put this chunky thriller down with its punchy short chapters and despicable characters.
Thanks to Chris and NetGalley for allowing me to read The Interview before the publication date.
Kate Harding has been invited to interview at Edge Communications for the role of Elite Account Manager.
She is escorted to the trendy, open plan office on the 13th floor and introduced to Joel White, before being shown into the only enclosed office, known as the cube.
But Joel is no ordinary interviewer, having been trained in interview techniques by the intelligence services. He now operates freelance, specialising in interviews and crisis management.
Kate is presented with a psychometric test to complete and she soon finds that it contains disturbing and deeply personal questions.
He introduces the subject of a court action about the impact of the air quality on Marshjet aircraft and the impact of the health of the flight crew, but Kate declines to comment.
The tone of the interview quickly changes to an interrogation.
When Joel leaves the cube, Kate finds that she is locked in and her handbag and phone are missing.
Looking out into the main office, she realises that all the staff have left for the weekend.
When she answers the ringing phone, she realises that Joel is watching her every move on camera.
What does Joel want?
This is definitely not a book for the claustrophobic!
It has to be the scariest, creepiest book I have read in many a year.
Chris launches straight into this page-turner, ramping up the tension from the start, so much so that I found myself holding my breath.
Whilst there does come a point where belief has to be suspended, this is a great story, based on a topic which hit the headlines in 2020...
This was a very high paced thriller with a lot of violent action, it really wasn’t a book that I enjoyed. Too violent for my taste. I also thought that the plot was lacking in parts too.
Many thanks to netgalley and C.M. Ewan for the advanced copy of this book. I agreed to give my unbiased opinion voluntarily.
A psychological thriller with lots of twists and turns along the way. The plot starts off quite straightforwardly but quickly becomes more complicated. The suspense builds up and there are some shocking events . It all seems quite realistic, which adds to the terror. The writing style is quite sparse which adds to the suspense.
This is not an easy read and at times seems a little too long, enjoy is probably the wrong word given the subject matter, but it was certainly interesting.
Thank you to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review
As usual in my reviews, I will not rehash the plot - plenty of reviews like that already if that's what you are looking for.
This was a gripping read - I didn't want to put it down, and stayed up late to finish it.
There are some quite violent sections in the book, but they fit in with the plot. The levels of tension are maintained throughout. There are some good twists - I was pleased to have guessed a couple, but there were still several that I had not expected.
Call me a conspiracy theorist, but I can easily believe that some huge corporations would go to such extreme lengths to save themselves!
Will definitely read more by this author!
My thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an ARC. All opinons my own.
