Well, today I was supposed to be writing a presentation but instead I was listening to this book which had me absolutely gripped. This is one of my favourite books of the year and I will definitely be keeping alert for new Jess Ryder books.
The Second Marriage is actually a heartbreaking book. Not in the sobbing all the way through Jodi Picoult way, but in the ‘oh those poor women and that poor little boy’ way. I totally recommend it.

The Second Marriage by Jess Ryder

This book follows the narration of Lillie, a nanny for a young, troubled boy who finds herself falling in love with his widowed father, Edward.

Noah’s father, Edward, wants nothing more than to marry Lillie and everything seems perfect for the couple from the get go .. however when Noah tells Lillie “they’re lying to us all” after her wedding .. she’s left feeling very unsettled and wants to find out more.

Noah thinks his mummy is still alive and refuses to believe she is dead … he tells Lillie “they think I’ve forgot but I haven’t” … troubled by this revelation Lillie must get to the bottom of it … but can she really trust Edward?

As Lillie begins to dig up information about Edward’s past she discovers an unsettling truth about what really happened to Noah’s mother…

This audiobook was chilling … eerie and I could not stop listening! The narrator tells the story so well and you find yourself enthralled throughout.

I loved the twists in this book and the ending was perfect! Lillie was a great character and it was so interesting finding out the truth about Edward’s past with her.

Highly recommend this book to all thriller readers, this will keep you on the edge of your seat!

This was pretty lame -- very predictable from scene to scene.

This was a very fast read (or in my case, listen as it was an audiobook). There weren't any of the "filers" that stretch the length of the book without adding anything to the story. I enjoyed it very much and will keep an eye out for more from this author.

A woman is hired to home school a sweet but lonely young boy who lost his mother 5 years before. After a few short months, she winds up marrying the boy's father, making this his second marriage. The boy believes his mom is still alive. The new husband has two very disagreeable older daughters. As the story unfolds, we learn about the death of his first wife and other issues that make her distrust him.

This was wild, gripping and all consuming.

This was a story that completely captured my attention and kept its hooks sinked deep into me until the end.

There were a few things (no spoilers) that felt a bit too obvious to me, but overall I really enjoyed this!

My thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for allowing me to review this book.

Lilli, a private tutor to young Noah marries his widower dad and becomes his stepmom. However Noah tells Lilli his mom has been talking to him and I coming to get him. Yet she's been dead for years? Who is contacting Noah? Is his mother dead? What happened to the missing babysitter? Did Edward the dad have anything to do with?

This story will keep you guessing. Loved it!

I received an advanced review audiobook copy in exchange for an honest review

I loved this one. Very fast paced, had me biting my nails as I listened – I had to hear how it would end. The characters were well rounded and the narrative felt believable. Gave me chills. Solid five

Oh what a book. I liked so much the story. I needed just something not obvious to be a five star. But I like the style of this writing so much.

Love is blind and sometimes we are blind for many other things but... that is life. This is also a story about mother's love. About friendship and love that last forever. It is also many negative aspects but i prefer to remember it after positive sides.

What would you do if you discover husbands secrets and lies. You would be divided and this is a perfect story for you if you like going to the end of the problem when you discover there is something wrong.

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture publising for an arc copy in echange of an honest review.
