Crafting Authentic Paper Flowers is a lovely and informative book that clearly guides the reader through the maker process. The author clearly explains the tools and techniques< and the accompanying pictures are crisp and helpful. I'd recommend this book for any fellow crafter, regardless of their main area, as I think all makers would benefit.
Thank you to NetGally and to the publisher for an early review copy.
I wanted to read this book for the very specific reason that I am absolutely deadly to any living plant that has the misfortune of being in my vicinity. As a lover of nature and mountain hiking, of course I have attempted of bringing nature into my own home over the years, but everything from flowers, to green plants to succulents has met with a terrible, sad ending.
So to spare any more living plants from doom, I came up with the idea to try my hand at crafting plants from paper. And I am happy to say that Crafting Authentic Paper Flowers is the perfect source of information for someone like me. Sophie Longhurst first lists some of the essentials you would need to make your own flowers and even provides details about the different types of paper that can be used. This is followed by some basic techniques like fringing, curling and reverse cupping that will enable you to create as realistic a flower as possible.
But the most important part of the book is the flowers themselves. Longhurst gives really easy and detailed step by step instructions and templates for creating poppies, roses, dahlias, rowan berries, purple coneflowers (my favourite!), cherry blossoms, Japanese anemones and many many more. Finally, the flowers she crafts are varied enough in colour, shape and size that you can use all the knowledge you gain from this book to craft any other flower you can think of and continue to develop your flower crafting skills.
Beautiful gift for yourself or a creative flower-lover in your life. Huge thank you to NetGalley, Sophie Longhurst and Pen & Sword, White Owl for the advanced reader copy.
This is a lovely book with clear instructions and beautiful photos. I haven’t made anything yet, but I’m going to give it a go.
Absolutely gorgeous!!!
The supplies needed aren't too expensive and the projects seem pretty well explained..
If my library doesn't pick this up, I will buy a hardcover for myself.
Thank you netgalley for the arc.
Thank you to NetGalley, Sophie Longhurst, and Pen & Sword for an e-arc of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a truly beautiful book. You can tell how much Longhurst enjoys what she does with the care and dedication it took to put this together. All of the different types of flowers are gorgeous and the instructions are clear. I love that the materials are not difficult to come by and templates for all of the different parts are available in the back as well. The layout is user-friendly and the full page photographs of the finished products make me want to dive in and craft all of them.
I can’t wait to make more beautiful paper flowers!
Review to come to blog/goodreads Mid-November.
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.
So when I saw this book I was instantly interested. I just love books about crafts. Not that I do said crafts because I just don't have the money to spend on all the crafts I read about. Plus, I am sure my husband would call me crazy that each time I get a craft book in my hands I start a new one/get things I needed. XD But I still like to pick up these books and learn new things. Find out how things work. See beautiful things being made.
In this gorgeous book we are going to make authentic flowers with crepe paper. Quite often the dried flower-look. The first section of the book is about various items you need (lots and lots of items) and then we learn several techniques plus also get some flower anatomy. And then the real deal starts! I had fun seeing which flowers she picked (along with information on the flower/plants) and see how she made them truly come to life. When the book said authentic flowers I was a bit doubtful, the cover did look pretty, but would it really work out with just some paper? Well, I can tell you now that it does look pretty real. Not all, but most of them do. And I love that!
The instructions are pretty clear, though maybe there is just too much, while I wasn't doing the craft I did get a tad confused at times at all one had to do. So I am happy there are also photographs to show part of the process. I am also happy that the author added centimetres along with inches.
The photographs (of the flowers and of them in a setting at home) were just so pretty!
All in all, a fun book that was really interesting to read. I am happy I had the chance to try it out, and who knows, maybe one day I will make some authentic flowers as well.
Imagine making real-looking, delicate flowers that are beautiful, whatever colour you want, that will last for ages and brighten any spot you choose to put them.
This book will show you how using step-by-step pictorial and text instructions as well as templates as a guide. I liked almost all the 20 projects, including the china rose and the rowan berries. I dislike stiff looking artificial flowers but these are light and airy and looks real. It’s a great advantage that the materials needed are inexpensive and maybe even readily available in your stash of supplies.
As a visual person, I would have preferred more photos in the step by step, but overall this is a fabulous book to get you on the start to making your own gorgeous flowers.
