Tesla Note was different from the normal fantasy and shojo manga that I normally read but I found I really enjoyed this modern day sci-fi story. Botan Negor appears to be a normal high school girl, she might be shy and easy looked over, but overall your average girl or is she... It turns out that Botan has spent her entire life being trained by her grandfather on how to be a ninja. Because of her training she is recruited by a secret government agency to be an agent investigating Telsa Fragments, a supernatural phenomenon that cause utter chaos and seemingly can't be stopped.

Tesla Note is a manga featuring an assasin trained for a specific mission that will save the world.

The first thing I really liked about this volume was how humorous it was presented. The interactions of the two main characters were just fun to read about.

It was enjoyable and all, but my only criticism is that for an opening volume, I couldn't yet detect the central theme, which means I do not know what direction the story will take in the next volumes. Yes, it did feel like the usual superhero trope where there's a different message or lesson for every arc, but I just wish I know the main characters' motivations and inspirations for doing what they're doing.

Over-all, pretty much an okay read.

Thanks to Kodansha Comics through Netgalley for my reviewer copy. Rest assured, this does not affect my review as it is completely honest.

This manga wastes no time at all in diving right into the story. We learn backstory as we go, so this feels extremely fast paced. I will admit that the concept is a bit odd, but the art is fantastic most of the time. I would like to continue with the series to see if it gets more interesting. Currently I'm not really invested in any of the characters, so I'm hoping they grow with the story.

This story follows two spies working together collecting Tesla Fragments-- An invention created by Nikola Tesla that can cause teleportation when activated. For some reason, Tesla thought the best way to protect these fragments was to spread them randomly around the world. Very nice artwork, great detail, interesting backgrounds and line work. It fits the story perfectly.

Botan Negoro is out on her first mission as an agent. She is teamed up with Agent Kuruma and a support team to find a Tesla fragment that is causing weird events in Norway. An interesting action adventure manga that has potential. The art works well. The plot fits in action, intrigue, and human interaction in a nice mesh that hold up well. And then their is the shadowy opposition. It will be exciting to see what volume two has to offer.

Thanks Netgalley for the opportunity to read this title.

This story follows two spies working together collecting Tesla Fragments-- An invention created by Nikola Tesla that can cause teleportation when activated. For some reason, Tesla thought the best way to protect these fragments was to spread them randomly around the world. Now normal citizens are finding them, activating them and creating warps that leave hundreds dead. (Hm... Are we sure Tesla was a smart guy?) The two main characters involve a ninja high school girl and a supernaturally tough adult man who are quick to bump heads in their mission to retrieve the fragments. Typical "two people who don't like each other have to learn to work with one another to accomplish a goal" type dynamic. Unfortunately, I didn't find either of these characters particularly charming. The volume ends with their last mission involving a kid (who's forced to steal money by their father) finding a fragment and getting involved with the craziness. They try to redeem the father's actions but I'm just not buying it. Won't stick around for another volume.

Very high 3/5.

Very nice artwork, great detail, interesting backgrounds and line work. It fits the story perfectly.

The story itself feels a bit rushed in the beginning; everything just sorta jumps in together without much explanation.

The character's themselves seem interesting but a little one note so far; I'd like to see more development, hopefully in future volumes.

The general concept itself is pretty fun, I definitely like the idea but I hope that it doesn't become a constant struggle to find the next thing, or chase the next thing. It would be nice to explore some of the histories and/or magic behind them.

This was a very enjoyable read. I decided to attempt to get approved for a digital copy and Kodanashi didn't leave me hanging! This is an interesting story about a group of spies locating and obtaining crystals known as Tesla Notes. Why are they after these you may ask? Well interestingly enough Tesla himself had invented some amazing devices that were far to advanced for their time. To prevent them from wreaking havoc on the world he had them sealed away inside these Tesla Notes set to open 100 years in the future. Tesla had suspicions that the Notes may become unlocked before they should and has given the task to make sure they don't fall into the wrong hands to our MC Botan's grandfather Jingo. Jingo has trained Botan in the ways of the ninja since she was a child to prep her to one day take on the role of savior of the world in his stead.
This was a very goofy read. I enjoyed the friction between the newly assigned partners Botan and Veteran Spy Ego Maniac Kuruma. I look forward to reading the rest of this series its another one to add to my ever growing list.
Thank you to Netgalley and Kodanashi for a digital copy in exchange for an honest review.
Now if only they would auto approve me that would be great ;)

A big thank-you to the publishers and netgalley for an eARC in exchange of an honest review.

The concept of this manga is really cool, though gruesome at times. Unfortunately I feel like the lack of knowledge about what the actual issue and enemy is just causes too much confusion. Also what is the obsession with Tesla lol.

The artwork is beautiful and I like the character dynamics but where it falls down in the main plot. Lack of direction and a lot of stereotypes. Though I did like that despite using a racist depiction of a ‘lazy black man’ they showed that he was a victim of racism and lost his job due to being an immigrant and ended up in debt. However it was a shame that the only person of colour other than the Japanese characters in Norway it was a black man who was shown in this light.

Overall the manga was fine but I don’t think you’d find me running for volume 2.

We are introduced to Botan Negoro, who has been trained to be an elite government agent since a young age. She is also an expert on the "Tesla fragment", which appears throughout the world to cause supernatural chaos. Her main mission is to find these fragments, but she needs the help of the self-proclaimed top agent Kuruma. The banter between these characters is top-notch and I thoroughly enjoyed every page of this. I can't wait to read more!

Botan is an obedient and vigilant student both at school and when training with her grandfather. One day her grandfather declared that she has been called to do what she had been training for and becomes a part of a spy service. They are working to hunt down crystals left behind by Nicola Tesla that are causing fast moving vehicles to teleport and creating large fatalities. The author does a great job building the world and developing the history and connection to Tesla. Botan and her new partner have some fun quips. I'm curious enough to read the second in the series.

Thanks to Kodansha Comics and NetGalley for the ARC.

As an avid manga reader, I come across a lot of similar stories.
But I feel like we forget that nothing is really original anymore.
I really enjoyed Tesla Note.
The story is very enjoyable and very interesting.
The character design is top notch and the art style is very fun and animated.
The banter between the characters is "chefs kiss".
I'm so getting Volume 2!

The story is nice and and a great read, however some text bubbles overlap each other or with other panel elements, which make the overlaped bubble hard to read

Why is there always that extra dramatic person in life?! 😏

Official title: Tesla Note Vol 1
My title: Teenaged Super Spy
Author: Masafumi Nishida and Tadayoshi Kubo
Art: Kota Sannomiya
Publisher: @kodanshamanga
Fav character: Honorary President
Readability: Normal
Type: Graphic novel - Manga
4/5

🌱THE EXCELLENT
~ Action scenes and facial expressions are extremely well done
~ Interesting concept for the story, using Tesla’s possible ‘failed/unknown’ inventions
~ Many avenues for the story to take and dangerous possible inventions to imagine
~ The beginnings of great teamwork where each person has their strength
~ I LOVE how she just randomly goes on gabbing rampages

Botan Negoro has been training her whole life to save the world, this has kept her away from making friends in the mundane world. Her grandfather ensured she had the best of trainers to make her a capable and deadly fighter, because there would come a time when the world would need her skills. The time is now! Nikola Tesla created some things in this time, that the world is unprepared for and in the wrong hands they will make our world descend into chaos. The grandfather has a plan and a team and when Botan joins, it become evident that while he managed to make her capable and deadly… he didn’t manage to make her learn when to shut up. 🤣

✨Give it a read.

🌱THE MEH
~ 🙄 I am a bum/irresponsible because I can’t find a job since I am being judged for my skin colour (sigh, another narrative please?!) in Norway? Hummm 😒, okay then…
~ 🙄 So fed up of these FAKE since I am a female ‘let’s sacrifice everything, including common sense, to half-help this ONE person, while endangering many others’ GIVE ME THE SENSIBLE + ‘HEARTLESS’ FEMALES PLEASE!
~ Bad guys are semi weak so far, but I expect them to flesh out in other volumes

A good enough beginning. I’d like to see where else the story takes them before fully committing.

♡🌱 But that’s just me ;)

I liked the concept of this one but found myself getting fed up with the constant bickering between the two. However, I liked the art style alot and think that the manga has a lot of promise.

Overall a decent read and I'm intrigued to see how the story continues.

Fun, interesting manga. Looking forward to vol. 2. The story draws you in and the main characters getting used to each other really got my attention.

I received a copy of this manga through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

It was a fun manga with funny characters and adventurous story. At times I had a bit difficulty understanding what’s going on because a lot was happening in just a few panels and the explanations fell a bit short at times. 🤔
But overall it was a lot of fun, Botan and Kuruma were hilarious together and the whole team was great. The idea of chrystals with unknown powers wrecking havoc in the world was also quite interesting. 😉
I think I would enjoy reading the next volumes as well!🙂

I'm not sure about this. In itself it was fine, there were some funny moments and the art style was nice too. The plot seems a bit overly complex, but all in all it's fine I guess. I only had a problem with the one black character in the story. At first we meet the guy and I'm like "great, the only black character is poor and drunk and steals from others.." then the character was presented as an actually good guy who had a bad time of it because people are racist and because he was grieving. I then thought "oh hey, a commentary on racism, that's pretty good!" but THEN... it flip-flopped again because the main characters saved the black man's son, and suddenly he was like "oh thank you, now I will be able to turn my life around and live clean and stop drinking and provide for my son, and all I needed was you!" and it gave my White Saviour vibes, even though the main characters are Japanese. So maybe white saviourism isn't a thing without the actual white people, but it still felt weird to me.. I realize my whole review is based on a side character but it just... Ergh.

Very interesting mix of science, supernatural, gore, comedy with action and mystery all in one. The main characters a grumpy sunshine combo. The supernatural effects of the Tesla crystals and the enemy organization is one that I'm excited to see how it progresses.

I really love Nikola Tesla and his inventions are out of this world. Thus Tesla Note piqued my interest of course! Botan is a high school girl with awesome abilities, since she has been trained since her childhood to become an agent at one point. The agency is after Tesla Shards that are crystals which can bend time and space. Thus weird things are happening and people dying when fast vehicles warp our world and people die due to it. The agency's aim is to collect the shards and prevent the future Tesla was afraid of, since he wanted to use them for bettering the future. So, the premise is interesting, but the creators don't explain anything well. This story line needs more groundwork instead of jumping right into action and humor with the main characters. Not many know about Tesla, so the whole thing is mostly just confusing.

The art is nice and the characters actually have facial expressions. I also liked the bickering between the characters, since you can actually tell how they feel by looking at them. The movements look good and all in all the manga is packed with action also art-wise. But, still. All this would've needed more explaining and describing, the whole setting basically. This is the biggest downfall. Everything else works quite well.
