I’m always a sucker for the trope where the main character is at the bottom of the pack but ends up finding a way towards the top and this was exactly that. We follow Ein who is of a common class and is pretty useless for an adventurer so when he’s out with his group and they leave him for dead.. well, he wasn’t surprised.

But of course, he lives and that’s really when the story picked up. It was so fun to see all of the training and see him finally start to flourish! I really started to like him as a character. I adored Yuri and Ursula too.

Overall, this reminded me of a fun video game sort of style with tons of action, training and even some adorable moments between the characters. I am looking forward to more from this series!

4/5⭐️

TW: blood, death, violence, slight gore.

Even Given the Worthless "Appraiser" Class, I'm Actually the Strongest is one of those series with annoyingly long names. Also, it's fantasy, so I kind of knew what I got when I started with this. Ein lives in a fantasy world, where everyone has their assigned jobs and you cannot change yours. Ein is an appraiser, the lowest rank and his job is to check the info of whatever he is checking ("info box man"). His team ditches him in the dungeon and Ein accepts death only to notice that he hasn't died and someone has healed him. Enter World Tree and it's spirit Yuri. Ein gets powers from Yuri and her "mom" and soon starts his own adventures, and then this feels all the more familiar. So, nothing totally new, but I liked the relationships between the characters and how this was built. I hope the series stays like this and not Ein becoming dull by having too much power.

Well, the art looks nice, although I'm not fan of Yuri's breasts and how there are harem elements in this. Genre-wise this is same old, same old. Ibarakino needs to drown this with refreshing new ideas to get this stand out, but I do see the potential. So, hopefully not your basic shounen. It all depends what happens next, since this first part was just Ein getting powers and training. A very tightly packed first book if you ask me.

I wasn't sure what to expect from a manga with such a long title! (chuckle) I was pleasantly surprised though. Fans of JRPGs and Dungeon crawler games will find joy in this series. In a curious fantasy world where people are born into certain "job" classes and given certain abilities, they are trapped into a caste like system. They can not change jobs. Most people are born with the job their parents had and become hereditary support characters, like farmers or merchants. Of course battle classes are the superstars of the world, mages, swordsmen, beserkers, etc..... Poor Ein was born as an appraiser, which means he can identify things, their worth and abilities. His parents die when he is young and he has to take care of himself.

Ein wants to be an adventurer but without battle skills he can't defend himself. Luckily he hooks up with a mage and swordsman. Unluckily they make Ein carry all their bags and do all the dirty jobs. When the trio finds themselves in a tricky spot they use Ein as a decoy so they can make an escape. Leaving Ein to die, the two run away. Poor Ein must make a hard choice jump to his death or be attacked by beasts. This is just the beginning to the poor kids adventure.

I found this an entertaining read and would recommend it for middle school or older elementary kids right now. I don't know where future volumes will go and I could not find a recommended age range on the manga. The characters are unique and the premise is fresh and exciting. I hope Ein doesn't let Yuri and Ursula down!

Review to come next week to blog/goodreads.

I received this manga from Kodansha/Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Haha, I just couldn't resist this long-ass title manga. I was very curious about this Appraiser class (sounds like a fun skill.. but not sure if you want it as your class) and how this guy got strong! Also cute girls on cover help. XD

Meet Ein (awesome name) who is from the Appraisal class and treated like shit. Then again, I did find it odd that he didn't even had any fighting abilities or defending abilities. He was just sitting there and waiting for his party to be done. It was not really the right way for me to start to get to know this character. I don't mind a bit more passive character, but I would like my characters at least be able to do something. Still, I felt sorry for him because his party members treat him like utter shit. Really, those two are the worst and we see just how bad they are later on in the first part. Holy crap. I get that Ein is pretty useless but that is still not the way to go.

Thankfully, Ein does get a second chance (and maybe even a third given what happens after that second chance). It was a bit gory how things went, to the point that I was just hoping that the manga wouldn't all be about blood and losing ears too much. I loved that he got a new chance, not sure how he feels about it all the time given his instructor XD, but I am sure he is happy that he can prove himself and learn something useful and good. I found myself rooting for Ein to learn some new skills and get better. Get stronger, but also more confident. Because he also doesn't have a lot of that.

I loved seeing the appraisal skill get more and more useful. From just being able to do some appraisal and see if there was loot to copying skills and being able to do them. Now I also want this form of appraisal. Give it to me! Well, minus the pain, because DANG that looks too painful.

I also loved the other characters, innocent and adorable World Tree spirit/however it was called Yuri. And then there is her "mom" the guardian of the tree. Two more different personalities cannot be found. I just love how supportive Yuri is and how sweet and cute and how she is always there for Ein... while Ursula is more the die-hard I will train you until you die type (with a vengeance) + she is a big love for Yuri and will do anything to make sure Ein isn't doing anything unsavoury to her (though she even counts talking and getting a bit too close unsavoury, so um).

This manga is pretty much introductory to Ein, Yuri, and Ursula. The real adventures will start in the next manga. Now that Ein is powered up he is ready to face the world. I hope that things will go well for him. He deserves that after all the shit in the beginning and all the death training with Ursula.

The art was OK. At times I really loved it (Yuri's design, the facial expressions by the characters (Ursula has some great ones), but at other times it just looked rushed and unfinished.

All in all, this was a pretty good, action-packed and full of fantasy, manga and I will keep an eye out for more of this series. Curious how things will go next.

I am interested to see how the series progresses and what Ein ends up doing once he gets out of the dungeon. It's a common main character is weak then becomes powerful. I do kinda hope he comes across some trouble where he has a challenge since at the end of this volume it seemed almost like a walk in the park now for him with a lot of help from the guardian and spirit.

In a world, where classes are basically determined by genetics, Ein is an Appraiser class. With no family he had to become an adventure, but unable to fight and protect himself he had to deal with those who mistreated him. One day in the dungeon they sacrificed him to save their own lives from some monsters. However, what he doesn't know is his life will be different from here on out.

I always like rooting for the underdog who gets stronger, but this seemed a bit too much. Not just because Ein became pretty much invincible throughout this ONE volume, but also because he didn't figure anything out himself. Everything was given to him by some super strong magical creatures, because he said 'thank you' to a tree that saved him. It's just not very satisfying when everything is handed to the hero without any effort, y'know?

I received a copy of this manga through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

It was quite interesting. Yet another story about a computer gameish world where people are born into classes they can't escape, with skills and abilities they can gain over time but only according to their class. Our main hero has had the misfortune to have the lowest of classes - he's an appraiser and is bullied by anyone with a higher class. 🙄
The story of Ein's adventure starts of pretty gorily but has some cuter and funnier moments as well (Yuri and Ursula!!!) 😊

This story reminded me vaguely of Solo Leveling. Ein is a low class adventurer, he's alone in the world and has to beg to join a party to be able to go into a dungeon on an adventure. The party he joins isn't very nice to him since he's a low class and they eventually leave him as bait for some monsters. Ein is able to get away but finds himself at a dead end cliff and decides to jump to have a peaceful death rather than a gruesome one at the hands of some monsters. Ein wakes at the base of a huge tree undamaged. He discovers that the dew from the tree healed him and he thanks the tree and tries to leave but is immediately killed by monsters. He wakes up again at the base of the tree undamaged. Turns out the spirit of the tree has come to like Ein because he thanked her and didn't take advantage of her. The spirit of the tree and her guardian spend the rest of the story training Ein to become strong enough to be able to leave the dungeon.
The images were easy to follow and well drawn. There wasn't any fan service which was a nice change of pace.

An interesting manga about a world where people are born with their class and abilities already set. Ein, the main character, is an Appraiser. Appraisers are considered a common class and he is seen as weak by most people. Ein is about ready to give up on life, but after a fate encounter he is ready and equipped to give adventuring another shot. The story is engaging and I'm interested in seeing what the next volume brings.

Even Given the Worthless "Appraiser" Class, I'm Actually the Strongest turned out better than expected. In the last year or so I’ve basically been reading through nearly every manga that appears for review and sometimes I think gems in genres I wouldn’t normally pick and sometimes I don’t take to the stories.

The video-game-is-fantasy-real premise (I’m sure there is a better word for it) is not something I’ve read before this year and while it probably isn’t my go-to genre I enjoyed this. It did take me until the third chapter though, but I think this book sets everything up well. Neither the characters or art are my favourite but as an enjoyable guest fantasy this works for me. I do want to see how this story progresses in the next volume.

Thank you Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read and review this.

In a fantasy world where jobs are given from birth, where heroes are born, not made, our main hero, Ein's job as an "Appraiser" has put in far below the status of hero. Abused and abandoned by his fellow adventurers, Ein decides it isn't worth going on. But by pure luck, he is saved, and thus begins his new life, and his power is shown to be more than he thought it'd be.

Adventure mixed with comedy, I really enjoyed this read, and look forward to the next volume to not only see him grow, but also to see him continue with his adventure to meet new friends, and show those who turned his back on him, that instead of heroes being born, heroes can be made.
