The Eastern Front 1914-1920 is a compact, comprehensive recounting of World War I and after on the Eastern European Front. Neiberg has written several other works focused on the First World War and is familiarity with the material is evident.

This work moves chronologically through the war. It begins by detailing the different nations and alliances that existed prewar. The majority of the book is focused on the different campaigns across the year. The final sections detail Russia after the First World War and half of the Russian civil war.

A benefit to the reader is that the narrative frequently makes use of archival images, maps, and short biographies of key individuals given more visual diversity to the book.

A short, concise overview of the Eastern Front that serves as a great introduction for one wanting to learn more about World War I beyond the Western European front.
