I have enjoyed several books by the author, Judy Leigh. She manages to create delightful stories of older people which is a joy to read instead of just regarding young people and their lives. This book was a relaxing tale of three women who set off on an adventure. The characters are well developed. There were some moments that have you laughing out loud and others that were rather appalling. It is a light beach read and will keep you entertained for an afternoon.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for my advanced review copy. All opinions and thoughts are my own.

I must firstly apologise for the amount of time it has taken me to provide a review of this book, my health was rather bad for quite some time, something that had me in hospital on numerous occasions and simply didnt leave me with the time I once had to do what I love most.

Unfortunately that does mean I have missed the archive date for many of these books, so It would feel unjust throwing any review together without being able to pay attention to each novel properly.

However, I am now back to reading as before and look forward to sharing my honest reviews as always going forward. I thank you f0r the patience and understanding throughout x

A funny and uplifting read. All the three characters – Vivienne, Mary and Gwen are lovely, and a delight to read about. I loved the idea of these three characters travelling and sharing a motor home. It is a beautiful experience being a part of their conversations, lives and their journey. A recommended read for someone who loves travelling, and believes that life is meant to be lived.

If you are looking to be entertained and uplifted, this book is for you. Leigh always writes with humor and understanding of the challenges facing women as they age. Vivienne, a soap opera actress, Gwen, an opera star and Mary, a retired nurse, are neighbors in London when they decide to take a holiday after the isolation of lockdown. Borrowing a motorhome, the trio travel through England and Wales, having adventures and lots of laughs. Recommended, and thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

This book was such good fun but also full of heart as the three women grew to know each other better, the descriptions of the locations really brought the book to life and it was great to read a book about older women

4.5 Stars

Judy Leigh’s books fizz and sparkle with humour, warmth, pathos and plenty of charm and her latest novel, The Golden Girls’ Getaway, is a delightful and dazzling read that proves that getting up to mischief has got no age limit.

The last year has been difficult for everyone and Mary, Vivienne and Gwen are certainly no exception. Lockdown had left them feeling isolated and more alone than ever. The three of them are in desperate need of a change and when Gwen comes up with a terrific idea to get them all out of London, the trio jump at the chance to see the country from the comfort of a motor home. Away from the city, away from their homes and their own worries, and with the open road stretching ahead of them, Mary, Vivienne and Gwen cannot wait to start their great adventure unaware that they might just find what they’ve long lost sight of during the last year: themselves.

From Stonehenge to Devon and Yorkshire, the country has never looked more beautiful. As the three ladies find themselves getting to grips with life on the road, they find their friendship deepening, their bond expanding and the opportunities being presented to them absolutely endless. At long last, Mary, Vivienne and Gwen are laughing again, smiling again and who knows…maybe even falling in love again?

The possibilities are limitless and the future is theirs for the taking because the best is yet to come for Mary, Vivienne and Gwen – regardless of how many candles there are on their birthday cake!

Judy Leigh never disappoints and The Golden Girls Getaway is another compulsively readable novel about friendships, relationships and the ties that bind us together that will make readers laugh and cry and make them wish they were exploring the country with the book’s three amazing heroines Mary, Vivienne and Gwen.

I love Judy Leigh’s writing because it sparkles with such brio, verve and flair. Her characters are interesting, layered and nuanced and they leap off the pages and straight into her readers’ hearts. Mary, Vivienne and Gwen might be women of a certain vintage, but their feelings, fears and insecurities are sure to strike a chord with readers everywhere – regardless of their age.

A heart-warming, uplifting and feel-good tale readers are going to love, Judy Leigh has got another surefire hit on her hands with her latest, The Golden Girls’ Getaway.

An amazingly funny take whose characters you will fall in love with. It will have you planning a getaway with your chaps. I envision it coming to the big screen or Lifetime sooner rather than later. Simply beautiful.

An uplifting escape read. During their impromptu trip the story develops their relationship and strengthens their friendship while showing how each person grows and learns something about themselves. An enjoyable read.

Just a treat to read this book during a local cold snap, and so nice to read a book about older women who aren't ready to settle into a gentle retirement. This was actually the first book I've read that was actually set during the pandemic, masks and all. Although the book was a little slow moving at first, once the three women set out on their adventure in the motor home, there was a lot of humor, romance, and growth in confidence in all the women.

Gwen, Mary and Vivienne are older ladies who have flats in the same building and enjoy catching up now and then. After the isolation of lockdown, they decide to borrow a motorhome named Jason and go for a holiday revisiting places from their past. Mary is recovering from a heart attack, Gwen is an opera singer suffering from anxiety after lockdown and Vivienne is an actress who fears her glory days are behind her. Together, they find a new lease on life and come face to face with their respective pasts whilst enjoying independence. I really enjoyed this novel and would love to read a sequel to see what happens next for each of the ladies.

It's been a long and lonely year for neighbours Vivienne, Mary and Gwen. All ladies of a ‘certain age’, their lockdown experience has left them feeling isolated and alone. They have retired or lost their jobs and are feeling a bit expendable. Gwen comes up with a plan. She borrows a motor home from a gentleman who has feeling for her and made some unappreciated advances. Three friends head off on the road out of London, away from their worries and isolation. Vivienne (popular soap actor), Mary (retired nurse), and Gwen (retired opera singer) are all mature women in their 70s and 80s. Even though they live in the same building, they don’t know each other very well. As they travel, they meet some wonderful people, have fantastic experiences, take some chances and become best of friends. They all get a new lease on life and discover things about themselves that allow them to see life as a wonderful time, once again.

I always enjoy Judy Leigh's stories of friendship and new beginnings that star mature characters, usually always women. Being retired, there were times I didn't know what I was going to do with my life, and with the book being set with Covid as a backdrop, I definitely identified with the characters. I love the premise and the characters. Each character’s personality shines as these women set out on a spontaneous adventure in a motor home. They meet some colorful characters and challenge and support each other along the way. I love how each character finds an opportunity to show their talents and shine. This was an enjoyable and entertaining story and I sure hope I will have the same willingness to try new things, set off on adventures and take risks like these three did when I am over 70. If you enjoy an uplifting story with mature characters, humour and friendship, then I recommend you pick this one up.

Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and Judy Leigh for an eARC of this book. Vivienne, an actress; Gwen, an opera singer in her former life; and Mary, a retired nurse, are women in their Golden years. They all occupy flats in the same building in London and are so so tired of being cooped up during the pandemic. When restrictions are lifted, the three women embark on a road trip in a borrowed RV. They undergo various adventures while traveling and come to realize they still have a lot of living and growing to do! They find parts of themselves that have been lost as well as open their hearts to love. The characters are multidimensional, very likable and relatable. This is a warm and entertaining book, which readers of a ‘certain age’, the group I am proud to be a part of, will really enjoy!

What an amusing book from Judy. Three mature women who travel in a motor home to visit different places and different campsites. Some bits had me in stitches.
