It starts off very strong, but it quickly goes downhill. There is no one even remotely likable in this book. There is hardly any plot and it definitely lacked suspense you'd expect from a book like this.
The pace is extremely slow, it takes forever for anything to happen.
There's a very little sense of place. It could have literally been "The London Apartment" or "The Milton Keys Apartment". If you feel like picking up this book for the stuffy and glam feeling of Paris you'll be very much disappointed.

I'm still not quite sure how I feel about this book having finished it a week ago.
I liked the differing POVs, I really like that in a book to view the story from different perspectives. The characters were all interesting but flawed, some more than others, and at first you are totally confused as to how they could be connected and why they are all living in the same apartment block. When we finally get into the story, you realise what is actually going on and everything comes together but perhaps there are too many tidy coincidences?
When you remember that the story is set over a very short timeframe then it becomes more realistic.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I would read more from her, I did enjoy this book I just have mixed feelings about it.

I couldn’t wait to start this as I’ve loved all of Lucy’s other novels. I wasn’t disappointed!

From the very first page I was gripped by Lucy’s innate ability to create a suspenseful and atmospheric story. With a diverse and interesting cast of characters, all with interesting backstories and dark motives for murder, I wanted to savour every moment.

Cleverly plotted and written with confidence, The Paris Apartment is another triumph and I can’t wait for the next one!

As a fan of The Guest List, I was very excited to give this one a read, however I’m not sure that The Paris Apartment has taken the top sport for me.
I loved the premise of this one but it took me a long time to become fully invested in the storyline or the characters. The multiple POVs took a bit longer for me to wrap my head around and get invested in each character. The writing itself I really enjoyed and I definitely felt like I was being transported to Paris when I was reading!
The ending made this for me and the reason why I’ve ended up giving it a higher rating. Although parts of the storyline I found quite obvious, there was still a twist or two which I didn’t see coming and kept me on my toes until the end.
Overall, an enjoyable read but not an all time favourite thriller unfortunately.

I found this a slow read. It was interesting enough but not enough to keep me up at night.
The building was the star of the book, the characters a bit less so.

I really enjoyed this audiobook - I liked the different narrators and I feel like they all fit the characters well. I did find it somewhat predictable. Even if you didn't know for sure what would happen, it was clear it would be this or that and none of the reveals felt particularly shocking. Maybe I completely missed them, but it felt like there were no small hints towards the reveals, we just had an oblivious character who stumbled upon things, usually because someone else told her rather than any deducing, which I prefer.

Over all, it was engaging enough to listen to and I am keen to read more from the author, but definitely as audiobooks as I know my brain won't be engaged enough to read physically

I really enjoyed this thriller. It had a really great and mysterious vibe the whole way through and had twists and turns - some expected, some not so much!

I liked the main character and I felt invested in her search for her brother and answers.

The Paris Apartment is a classic style slow burning, claustrophobic mystery which kept me on edge and constantly curious throughout.

While it may seem that not a lot actually happens within the first half of the book, Foley is cleverly crafting a web of mystery which unravels at the end for quite a few enjoyable ah-ha moments.

My favourite part of this book was the writing of the building itself. Lucy's luscious and detailed descriptions left me feeling like I was immersed in the penthouses' luxury, running across the open courtyard and skulking around the back stairs and cave.

I switched between my kindle and the audiobook and found the full cast to be fantastic and they really sunk the Parisienne aspect home.

An enjoyable mystery which had me fully immersed throughout.

The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley and Narrated by: Clare Corbett, Daphne Kouma, Julia Winwood, Sope Dirisu, Sofia Zervudachi, Charlie Anson was Superb! I loved it. I was hooked from the very first chapter.

Jess is all excited about travelling from London to stay with her half brother Ben, especially as she needs to get away from everything. Ben lives at No.12 rue des Amants. This is an old beautiful apartment block, not far from the glittering lights of the Eiffel Tower and the bustling banks of the Seine ..........what a beautiful place to visit.
However, when Jess arrives at Ben's apartment he is not there and he does not materialise later that evening and she can not get hold of him. Jess feels something is wrong and has happened to Ben and starts to ask his neighbours if they have seen him and they are not very helpful and they are very unfriendly towards her.

Jess only needed a few nights away and spend time with Ben! But where is Ben?

What are his neighbours hiding from her?

Jess feels something is wrong and has happened to Ben and she starts to feel she is being watched!

Is she safe?

Jess finds herself in danger as she starts to ask more questions about Ben and the apartment he lives in

The Paris Apartment was a brilliant read and is full of great twists and turns throughout that will have you hooked like it did me. Lucy's books I have read have always been excellent and this one is just the same! Brilliant!

I highly recommend this book! and all the Narrators were brilliant as well.

Big Thank you to NetGalley and especially to Harper Collins UK Audio and HarperCollins, for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

Wow what a twisty storyline this book had.
Jess arrives in Paris expecting to be greeted by her brother in his Paris apartment, instead she is greeted by an empty flat but since her brother only messaged her a number of hours before, she knows something doesn’t add up.
A small apartment block inhabited with people who all have secrets, it is best to go into this book really not knowing much about. Most of the characters are unlikable, even Jess but she fast redeems herself in my eyes.
I really had no idea of the direction of this book until the last third, with its gothic feel of the apartment I almost felt the first half of the book was a little slow going and repetitive until I actually noticed how much I had read! The last third just flew by, I loved how it all came together.
Another wonderful instalment from this author.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy to read.

# The Paris Apartment

An apartment in Paris is the centre for a lot of nefarious deeds and suspicious characters. Jess is on her way to stay with her distant brother Ben, when he disappears. She arrives in the middle of a very confusing situation where she doesn’t know who to trust, who to avoid and which way to look in order to find her brother.

Foley truly knows how to create suspense, build an intricate mystery around a single point or person, that sucks everyone else in, one way or another. She created really intricate characters and you’re never quite sure where their intentions really lie. I loved the different narrators in the audiobook and I loved how their stories overlapped.

Jess is the perfect straight-man character, who jumps into a situation without any prior knowledge, so she’s the perfect window for the reader to also explore and try to guess what happened to her brother, Ben. I like that Jess is a character that follows her gut instincts, after a tragic experience in her childhood, which I would say definitely helps her in this new situation.

This novel takes you on a journey, where the characters make the best possible moves in each situation, so you’re not left tearing out your own hair because a character decided to do something foolish that you definitely wouldn’t have done in their situation.

This was my first mystery novel in quite a few years and it was such a welcome and pleasant experience that I will definitely be picking up a copy of Foley’s other work, as well as dipping my toe further in the genre!

Lucy Foley never fails to write a gripping crime thriller. Twisty, compelling with stacks of atmosphere, who do you trust etc, she writes classic themes with contemporary feel to them. NOT TO BE MISSED

This great author delivers again with a slow-burning, suspenseful and twisty murder-mystery thriller.

Jess has arranged to stay with her half-brother in Paris in his swanky new apartment. But when she arrives he isn't there and the neighbours haven't seen him. She finds herself trying to find out what has happened to him without knowing the area or the language, and with very little money after leaving England in a hurry.

As a big fan of The Hunting Party, I was excited to read the new novel by Lucy Foley - this time set in an apartment in Paris where Jess arrives from England, to visit her brother Ben. However, it soon becomes apparent that Ben has disappeared. As Jess discovers more about the apartment and its residents, things get very odd...

This book is incredibly readable. The characters - largely other residents - are entertaining (although many of them are not at all likeable, which only adds to the tension) and are satisfyingly complex. There's a strong feeling of confusion in parts of the novel, reflecting Jess' worry, desperation and vulnerability at being in a country where she can't speak the language and may be taken advantage of...

The plot is also great fun. It's not all action-packed - some parts are a little slower, but it never felt slow or unengaging. We switch between different characters, and at first I struggled to keep up with who was who, but I soon got to grips with it. Lucy Foley's writing, like in The Hunting Party, flows brilliantly and she builds the atmosphere so well - I can vividly imagine the apartment and its residents!

I raced through this book in no time and the story has some great twists in it that I didn't see coming at all! A gripping read.

REVIEW: The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley

In search of a fresh start, Jess travels to Paris to stay with her half brother Ben. The pair aren’t close but Jess is jobless and alone and hoping that Paris will give her a positive outlook. Only she arrives at Ben’s fancy apartment with no sign of him. The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig. Ben’s neighbours are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly. Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it’s starting to look like it’s Ben’s future that’s in question.
The socialite – The nice guy – The alcoholic – The girl on the verge – The concierge. Everyone’s a neighbour. Everyone’s a suspect. And everyone knows something they’re not telling.

This is my third Lucy Foley read and after enjoying the first two, I was very keen to read this one. I really enjoy how Lucy writes her thrillers from differing perspectives with each chapter building a piece of the puzzle. This one is particularly mysterious and eery.
I would say that this wasn’t a favourite of mine. Whilst I found myself continuously reading because I did want to know how it would end, I found it exceptionally slow paced - it wasn’t until about half way through that anything actually developed. I found Jess particularly frustrating, and it was difficult to be invested in a story when you can’t connect to the characters. I also would have loved to read more about Paris and the backdrop of the apartment.
Overall if you are a thriller fan, add this to your list!

Whilst this was a solid book and the premise looked exciting. It did not live up to my expectations. I wanted more but I found myself predicting a lot of things. Maybe I'll re-read sometime in the future to see if my opinion changes.

Another brilliant read by Lucy Foley, this kept me guessing until the end. I love unreliable characters and this is full of them! Who can you trust?! After finding her brother missing from his apartment, with drops of blood and a broken chair, Jess questions his neighbours which leads her down many rabbit holes.

The Queen of thrillers has done it again! Loads of twists, loads of turns, loads of interesting characters and suspicions thrown into the mix and a LOT of plot twists!! I love Foley’s way of building lots of characters into the story and always second guessing the “whodunnit”.

Another well-written, thoroughly enjoyable story which I loved!

I really enjoy Lucy's books and was pleased to receive a copy of the new one. The writing is fantastic however I did not enjoy this story as much as I had hoped. There were a lot of characters to get to grips with and I just did not enjoy the setting at all, which shows the author's skill in transporting to the book world.
Thank you to Netgalley & publisher for the book in exchange for a honest review.

Lucy Foley does not disappoint. This book is set in beautiful Paris. This is a purposeful slow starter but it quickly ramps up. You just don't know who to trust. A dark, gritty psychological thriller which keeps you guessing until the end.
