I once stayed in a typical Parisian apartment during a weekend break and every film or series set in Paris features these wonderful blocks with their shared courtyards and concierges. Against this familiar backdrop, this story explores a mystery set in one of these apartment blocks, when Jess arrives at her brother Ben’s apartment, to find that he’s disappeared. The other residents in the block all have their own mysterious back story and reasons to both help and hinder Jess in her quest for the truth. The story works very well and there is plenty of intrigue to maintain interest, but I found the characters difficult to engage with and feel for, which let it down a bit. A solid 3.5 which I am happy to round up to a 4 for the rather wonderful Parisian setting.

With thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an opportunity to read and review.

This is an interesting and engrossing book. It starts off with a crisis and mystery and then gradually unfurls itself as the heroine, Jess, learns bit by bit about the various residents in the apartment block. I enjoyed the interplay of perspectives as you hear the narration rotate through the main characters. I also enjoyed the twist in the tale at the end.

Ah I'm so disappointed to write this review. I have read almost all Lucy Foley's books, including her non-thriller ones, and have loved them. The Paris Appartment just completely missed the mark for me though.

I found the characters very one dimensional, and never really felt like I got under the skin of any of them. I found the plot lacking too.

So I did finish the book and for that reason I'm giving it 3 stars instead of two.

There is plenty here to keep the reader engaged, with a plot full of twists and turns and a cast of fascinating characters. When young Jess arrives at her brother’s apartment in Paris for an escape from her tortured life in England, she finds that he has disappeared and becomes increasing worried as the plot thickens and she gets to know the varied characters who were part of his Paris life. I was happy to read to the end, and there was suitable feel is suspense and tension throughout, but the author uses a sentence of suspense at the end of every short chapter - a common device, but it became increasingly irritating as the book progressed.

A deliciously dark, atmospheric and twisty story about Jess travelling to Paris hoping for her brother Ben’s help and support. She arrives at his apartment set in a beautiful old mansion at nightfall, but is unable to find him.
Told from several perspectives, you gain a rounded picture of the main characters, along with their stories and secrets. Excellently written, Lucy Foley sets the scene perfectly with intense, graphic descriptions as the story unfolds. Jess has her own problems and secrets, mainly surrounding her early years, and she isn’t the ‘flawless’ main character that feature in so many books. Which makes her more interesting.
Secondary characters each have their own intriguing stories and short chapters keep up the suspense. However, many characters are introduced early on in the book and initially it’s difficult to keep up with who they are.
This is a gripping story about family relationships, friendships, hidden secrets and who you can trust. It’s a twisty, graphic roller coaster of a book, gathering pace as the story unfolds.
Having read Lucy Foley’s previous books, this is another winner, recommended.

Lucy Foley is back with book number 3 and I think this is quite possibly my favourite. Lucy writes incredibly well and you don't see the ending til you are there.

I had so many theories running about my mind, flitting from each of the different characters. Lucy's writing is addictive, it really pulls you in and I had to just stop and stare into space to collect my thoughts.

Cleverly brilliant ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lucy Foley once again proves she is a master of her trade! Readers of the physiological fiction genre will not be disappointed by the latest offering from this super talented writer.

Jess, a young woman with a difficult childhood, needs a getaway and arranges to visit half brother Ben, an investigative journalist, in Paris. Thing is,...when she arrives he is nowhere to be seen! Jess undertakes some amateur sleuthing, putting herself in some danger, and ultimately discovers some seriously dark truths regarding the 'Paris Apartment' then Ben calls home...

This is a GREAT read! Lucy is once again on point with a storyline that is original, and a narrative that is totally gripping!!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an honest review.

Jess travels to Paris to stay with her half-brother Ben after fleeing from her old life, but is surprised to arrive and find that Ben isn't there... where is he? She starts to investigate and meets a bunch of strange and suspicious characters in the apartment block her brother was living in. Jess is sure that something terrible has happened to Ben. Could one of the residents know where her brother is?

A thrilling story that keeps you turning the pages. There is a good range of characters, and plenty of twists and turns and shocks. Another good read from Lucy Foley.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy of the book in return for my honest feedback.

A mysterious apartment block in Paris which is almost a character in itself, full of surprises; peopled with an extraordinary collection of characters all with their own secrets, - and a missing person. I haven’t read Lucy Foley’ previous books, but I loved the Parisian setting, the claustrophobic feeling of the apartments and the growing menace creeping through the story. The residents take it in turn to provide input in short chapters which add to the building tension. Well plotted and paced, nothing is as it seems right up until the final unexpected twist. A very enjoyable ‘whodunit’. Recommended.

Loved the new Lucy Foley! I was craving for a Paris book. While The Paris Apartment could be set anywhere, I enjoyed it. Don't get me wrong. It is lovely and atmospheric IN the apartment but we do not get many descriptions of the city or Parisians, save for the French phrases and also living conditions. SO, The Paris Apartment is a man-gone-missing story. When Jess comes to crash at her journalist brother Ben's luxury apartment, she finds him missing. But then this whole cast of residents of the building are introduced one by one and they ALL seem like suspects. Everyone seems to have a motive. There is an alcoholic, a girl obsessed with Ben, a businessman, the concierge (quite creepy because he is always looking (literally). I linked his character instantly to the innkeeper in THE GUEST LIST), editor friends who are out for Ben's big scoop that he was working on (not a resident), girlfriends, married women with a past, laptops with secrets. Oh my god! This was delightful. Added to the mystery is the old Paris building, which Ben cannot afford but seems to be living in. It also has stuffy basements, secret doors, secret passages and lots of wine. Added to that are rich family secrets, identity secrets, seedy bars, escorts, policemen who are everything except helpful. WOW! I loved how Foley reveals so little about each character and then a little more after several pages so that we are constantly guessing. Everyone is a suspect and I loved Jess being the one to try to get to the end of the mystery of her brother's plight.

I LOVED the turn at climax. Overall, very enjoyable and perfect for a vacation read.

Really enjoyed this book, just like with other Lucy Foley books, it creates atmosphere and you just don't know who you can and can't trust! A great setting too and I definitely kept in changing my mind as to what had happened and who knew what!

Brilliant, I loved this book by Lucy Foley. Nothing in the Paris apartment is as it first appears, when Jess decides to decend on her brother Ben.
The plot twists and turns and the murky goings on become more apparent.
The characters are brought to life in a believable way.
I loved the ending, a really good read.

A beautiful old apartment block far from the glowing Eiffel Tower and the banks of the Seine.
Something terrible happened last night in apartment 3.
Everyone has a story to unlock a secret to tell.
Jess is visiting her brother in Paris his expecting her but why is he nowhere to be found?
The observant concierge
The scorned lover,
The nosey journalist
The naive student
The unwanted guest.
Full of twists and turns to keep the reader engaged.

This book has a menacing, taut feel to it, and the tension ratchets up as it progresses.

The multiple narrators work well, and is a hard trick to pull off. It did remind me a little of Agatha Christie’s ‘sparkling cyanide’ in that respect, as did the mystery.

It deals with larger themes as well, though. Family, death, morality, society are all covered, so give it a depth that would otherwise be missing.

And a twist that I did not see coming. So a very well plotted, enjoyable edge of your seat book.

An intriguing plot that held my attention from the start and while I had an idea of the ending, I wasn’t sure how the author was going to tie in it. Definitely a book to read again.

I loved this book. Beautifully atmospheric, with a great (and mostly believable) cast of characters it had me gripped from the first page. I have only given it 4 stars because I thought the ending was a bit contrived, but I would still recommend this book.

Unbelievably good.. Lucy Foley is such an engaging author. From the off I was bought in to the whole set up. A peek into the lives of the others who seemly float through life. Exciting and enthralling thank you!

I started The Paris Apartment a few days ago and could not put it down it’s such a page turner! I had my theories throughout this book but it kept me guessing right until the very end!

The setting in this book is everything, it’s quite a dark read and it definitely gave me the shivers in parts. The book is told from different character’s POVs and I do love when books do this! I was not expecting the twists in this book one little bit!

This was one of my most anticipated reads of 2022 and it didn’t disappoint! This has become my favourite Lucy Foley book I’ve read so far and is definitely one of my favourite reads of 2021!

Lucy Foley has become one of my go-to authors since the incredible The Hunting Party, and this novel is even better! The mysterious Parisian apartment holds many secrets, and so do the main characters, each more suspicious than the one before… Loved it!!!

Lucy Foley's best yet. Absolutely heart-pounding writing with all the ingredients for a sinister Parisien thriller, in perfect quantities- locked, cobbled courtyards, brooding gitanes-smoking men, rich Hermes- wearing wives, exotic nightclubs, forbidden sex, vintage wine....and possibly a murder or two. And it still manages to tug a little at your heart strings.
Absolute perfection.
