A story of self discovery
Jax is haunted by his wife’s death at his families ski resort in Montana but things start to change when Ophelia comes to work at the resort
I liked both Ophelia and Jax but they were both so weighed down with personal issues that it was hard to get to know them, and I only really started to get them once they both started working through things. Ophelia had to deal with the death of her brother, miscarrying her baby at a late stage and a break up with her fiancée all in a short space of time and whilst I sympathised with her, I also got so frustrated that she wasn’t willing to let things go and that it was impacting her life to a huge extent. I know these are all big life changes but her reluctance to even start to look at things before Jax almost forced her to do so made me struggle with her. Jax also drove me nuts at times, he is still hugely impacted by the death of his wife 4 years ago and it affects so much of what he does. To me it felt like he had tried to box things away and then deal with everything by ignoring it and whilst I understand that this can be a normal thing with grief, he is also impacting his young son with his behaviour
There were however a lot of things that I loved about this book, not only the setting but also the danger of the Montana winter and the amount of time spent looking at medical issues. I ended up being pulled into the story thanks to the location but I quickly started to love the characters and the supporting cast also made a huge impact and part of the story that helped to pull everything together
I would recommend this book to those who enjoy an emotional journey of discovery that will have you hooked and wanting to know what will happen next
I really enjoyed White Christmas with her millionaire doc, it tells the story of Jax and Ophelia.
Jax's wife died a few years ago in a tragic accident witnessed by both Jax and their young son. Ophelia is also getting over the loss of her brother and her unborn baby when she decides to escape to Montana and take up a locum position. The story really drew you in and made you want them to get together, the characters were hugely likable and the setting was amazing.
Definite recommendation for this book
First of all I would like to say thank you to the publisher, the author and net galley for allowing me access to an advance reader copy of this book.
I think overall this was a pretty decent book I wouldn’t say it’s my favourite but I think it hits everything it’s meant to it’s got romance and ends with a happily ever after and I think overall this does what it’s meant to do
I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and read it in one sitting as I couldn't put it down, and that is certainly not a common occurrence for me! The characters were really well written and believable. The synopsis "Montana Ski-resort owner and single dad, Dr Jax Clayborn doubts the new locum from New York City can survive five minutes in his busy clinic, let alone two months! But dedicated Dr. Ophelia Lavelle’s kindness towards his son thaws a heart that’s been frozen since his wife died. Yet Ophelia must return home after Christmas to her own reality and, no matter how tempted, a just-for-Christmas romance can’t lead to forever… can it?". However, the story is much deeper and really beautifully laid, flowing seamlessly. This is one book I have no hesitation in recommending to readers that are perhaps hesitating themselves. I will certainly be following this author from here on in. I was given early access to this book for an honest review.
A cute romance with a couple both suffering real loss in the form of a losing a wife and a brother. The author doesn't shy away from how this has impacted our couple and treats their emotions sensitively. There is great description of the snowy cold landscape which was beautiful - apart from the regularly appearing bear! A good tale with a solid couple overcoming the bumps on their romance road.
I received an ARC from NetGalley and Mills and Boon in return for an honest review.
I mostly enjoyed this - the hero and heroine both had tragic losses in the past and struggled to move on. A temporary placement for Ophelia,, before taking over her father’s practice after the death of her brother and loss of her baby, set us up for all kinds of conflict. Max’s loss of his wife and guilt made for yet more obstacles. Their attraction was instant but their unwillingness to take it further provided the dynamic which blocked their path to a happy ever after.
Whilst I sympathised with Ophelia, I really didn’t understand why she felt obliged to join her Dad’s practice. I also didn’t understand her reluctance to be honest with Jax. Too much angst that a simple conversation would have resolved!
I disliked Ophelia’s father - he was a totally selfish meanie. I also was enormously irritated by Marni - the student who fancied Jax and was so rude to Ophelia. As a professional and responsible adult, her behaviour was unbelievable - more like an infatuated adolescent! and I had no idea why she was even in the story since she served no real purpose.
The ending was incredibly fast - I was disappointed! . Otherwise an enjoyable read.
