I was excited to pick up the second installment of the Atlantis series and discover what was in store for the trio of main characters after returning to the surface world. The book picks up shortly after the first ends with the trio of Lewis, Hanna, and Kaya at Lewis’s home at the surface. Atlantean Kaya is struggling to adjust to life on the surface and yearns to return to Atlantis. Lewis misses his father, who remained behind in Atlantis. The government does not want the trio to leave and has formed a secure “bubble” around them to monitor their every move. Things change when they are on the ship that brought them to the surface from Atlantis and the ship takes off on its own with the trio inside. This leads them to an encounter with a shady businesswoman/investor who wants to make money off the advanced technology from Atlantis. The trio leave her behind and venture back to Atlantis to prevent an impending war that is being called for by a power-hungry leader—and to save Lewis’ and Kaya’s fathers, who are both in danger in Atlantis. There are many exciting twists and turns ahead as they journey to Evenor and the tunnels of Ridge City in Atlantis all while trying to evade the Erasers who are trying to stop them from reaching their destination—and their goal of preventing a global war. Middle grade science fiction fans will enjoy this book with its vibrant and engaging rendering of the underwater world its non-stop action featuring the brave trio of adventurers who hold the fate of the world in their hands.

I received an electronic ARC from ABRAMS Kids through NetGalley.
This sequel picks up shortly after the first book ended. The three, Lewis, Hanna and Kaya, are on the surface and gathered at Lewis's home. Kaya is struggling with life away from Atlantis and yearning to return home. The government is involved and won't let her leave. Lewis and Hanna's extended family are part of the isolated bubble to keep them "safe." The action begins again when the Atlantan vehicle takes off on its own with the three inside. Readers meet another power in play when they encounter a ruthless billionaire inventor who wants to harness the technology from Atlantis and profit from it. Kaya, Lewis and Hanna return to Atlantis to try to stop the war. The rest of the book involves twists and more plot twists as characters reveal who they really are. They do prevent a war from starting immediately as the Head Councilor of Atlantis talks with the United States President via a phone call and both commit to talks that could lead to peace.
Mone lets readers see what can happen when leaders jump to conclusions and seek to attack rather than listen. This should lead to dialogue on how to work together on situations at many levels. These characters are imperfect but together they are capable of solving tremendous problems. It will be interesting to see where he takes this overall plot next.
