As a psychological thriller, the book does well to keep you guessing by
shifting the needle of suspicion, as told from Georgie's view. The book is
slow for much of the story. There is
a limited set of characters and major incidents,.
Though there are some good twists, I wasn’t a fan of the ending.

Sam and Lauren should be enjoying the honeymoon period after getting married 3 months earlier, however Lauren is found dead at the bottom of the stairs and now the police are not looking at this as an accident. Sams mum, Georgie and Lauren’s family, Helen, Tom and sister Kate are all devastated. When Sam gets arrested, Georgie fights to prove his innocence. Helen falls apart and turns to drink. Lauren’s friend, Sadie acts suspiciously but not is all as it seems.
A gripping thriller that’s keeps you guessing until the end. I really enjoyed this book and looking forward to reading more by Sue Watson.

I listened to ‘The New Wife’ as an audiobook and I loved it! The dulcet tones of Tamsin Kennard carry you along on a tide of wonderful, mysterious events spewed out from the mind of Sue Watson. Told from the point of view of Georgie, a middle-aged, laid-back, single mother, whose main interest in life is the welfare of her grown-up son Sam and his new wife Lauren. Life as she knows it however, is about to explode into a series of shocks, lies, intrigue and fraud. Can you really trust anyone? Even those who you’ve loved for a lifetime? Georgie’s about to find out in this dramatic, gutsy and yet, at times, sensitive and thought-provoking drama.

I'm of two minds about this book. On one hand, the mystery was pretty good, and I really liked that the characters were complex--many of them were both good AND bad, which made for a refreshing read. However, the MC doesn't do anything actively. The plot is driven by characters revealing things to her despite her not really doing anything. Especially in the later half of the book, all she does is go around for tea or meals and have other characters reveal information without much effort on her end. She's also really, really slow on the uptake. She's so focused on characters who are obviously red herrings, and even after she finds out more about these characters which should prove their innocence, she holds fast to her previous beliefs about them being guilty. It's very frustrating. I don't think I would recommend this book to suspense fans.

Sam is marrying his childhood sweetheart, Lauren. Having been close friends with her new daughter in law's family since the two were in nursery school together, Georgie couldn't be happier for the young couple. Everything feels perfect as her son and his wife begin married life together in their new cottage at the secluded edge of Dartmoor. Just weeks after the wedding, Lauren is found dead. Georgie is determined to prove her son's innocence and find out what really happened on that fateful night, but the further she digs, the more she realises the people closest to her are hiding something and that Lauren had been keeping a dangerous secret.

This book is so good! It had me completely gripped and like all good psychological thrillers, everybody is acting suspicious and cannot be trusted, it was impossible for me to guess the killer - I went back and forth on so many characters and just when I thought the book was done with it's shocking twists, it was not! The narration by Tamsin Kennard was really good.

Two happy families and two childhood sweethearts that have it all. Everything is perfect- until 3 months after their fairy tale wedding. The honeymoon is over when the new bride is found dead inside their cottage. Was her death an accident or murder? As the story unravels all secrets will be exposed.
I enjoyed this audiobook! Both the story and the narrator were great and I didn’t want to stop listening until it was over- it definitely will keep you guessing. Thank you to #NetGalley for the #TheNewWife arc!

The New Wife by Sue Watson
Thank you to @netgalley for my free audiobook and to @suewatsonbooks
I love a domestic psychological thriller a story that can easily be feasible. This was one of them.

Georgie’s son Sam Marries his childhood sweetheart Lauren. Georgie is best friends with her parents, from times at the school gates to being in laws.
Sam rings Georgie after finding his new wife dead at the bottom of the stairs and soon he finds himself as suspect No 1. Friendships frey as police believe that Lauren’s fall was no accident and Georgie fights to clear her sons name. A great easy listen for my 1st book of December ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

The New Wife is Sue Watson's new thriller that explores the depths of deceit. How well do you really know those you love, and who can you really trust?

Sam and Lauren were meant to be together, meant to be married forever. From the moment they met before primary school the pair, as well as their families, were joined. Georgie, Sam's single mother, and Lauren's parents, Helen and Tim, along with the children form a bond that seems deep, inseparable and incomparable. Until Lauren ends up dead, just a few short months after their wedding, in the cottage out of town that Sam convinced her to agree too. And Sam, of course, is the suspect.

Dead set on proving Sam's innocence, against all odds and against the wishes of her friend and Lauren's mom, Helen, whom she though the could trust, Georgie sets out to find out the truth. What really happened to Lauren, and who was she really? Secrets are uncovered, startling truths are revealed, and lives are shattered as Georgie tries to uncover the truth.

This book was filled with shocking twists, especially at the end - I did NOT see that coming and among the list of suspects, I did not predict this. However, at times I found myself frustrated with Georgie. As Georgie reflects on the past and realizes not all was as it seems, I was like "Georgie, how could you not see this?!" as I was obviously relying on her to help solve the case and it seemed like she missed clues all along! I listened to the audiobook in less than a day, I could not stop until I had listened to every. last. word.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for and advanced audiobook version in exchange for an honest review!

Sam and Lauren are newlyweds at the start of their adventure. They met at nursery and it seems that their life together was inevitable. Georgie and Helen are the proud mother's who have been best friends, almost family, since their children met.

Now Lauren is dead and Georgie is about to find out that maybe she didn't know as much as she thought about her best friend and new daughter in law.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. I listened to the whole thing in a day. It had just enough twists and turns to keep the reader enthralled.

A brilliant read.

An apology. I have tried this audiobook. I stopped and started three times. The fantastic reviews helped me return to it, but the over thinking, over-analysing make me stop.
I am 34%in and with another 6 hours left, I just cannot listen anymore.

The New Wife (Audiobook) by Sue Watson

Georgie Moore is devasted when her son Sam is arrested for the murder of his wife, Lauren, after only three months of marriage. Sam and Lauren met at preschool twenty-three years ago and have been inseparable ever since. Georgie cannot believe Sam, her wonderful gentle son can be capable of such brutality so she starts to do some investigating of her own but the more she finds out about Lauren’s family that Georgie was always so envious of the more she wishes she didn’t.

I fount this book to be very slow and the story seamed to just drag on and on with no conclusion in site. I’m sure a lot of what Georgie was thinking behind the scenes could easily be condensed and the story would still have its plot intact.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Bookouture for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review

The police investigation follows and Georgie also tries her best to find out who killed Lauren and clear her sons name.

The first half of this suspense thriller is gripping and believable: two families are torn apart when the son of one is accused of murdering his new wife, the daughter of the other. The bride and groom have known one another from the age of three, and their two families have spent all their holidays. vacations and social time together for more than twenty years. I felt the pain and sense of betrayal as both mothers turned on one another. Unfortunately, the story's believability began to fray as everyone in the families' small social circle fell under suspicion and and completely fell apart for me as one shocking secret after another was revealed, with characters we had come to know and trust turning into monsters. The whole last chapter is a summing up and explaining of everything, which is an indication to me that the novel itself didn't do a good enough job of telling a straight story.

Honestly, though, the more of these suspense thrillers I read, the more I feel for the authors, who must continually outdo themselves coming up with twists and turns and surprises. This book was well-written and riveting; I just wish the author had allowed us to see ahead of time some clues as to people's true nature or bad habits-- as I believe that is how it usually works in real life!

I am grateful to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a free audio copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Georgie’s son, Sam, marries his childhood love, Lauren, and four months later she’s found dead. Lauren fell down a flight of stairs, and at once seemed like a horrible accident, it then became that her death is being investigated as a homicide, and Sam is their top suspect. Georgie is in a very difficult place since she wants to support her son, but also she was very close to Lauren’s parents, Tim and Helen, since the children were in nursery school.

This book had so many twists and turns it made me quite dizzy 😵‍💫. Right when you thought you knew who did it, something/ someone else came into play. I enjoyed the book, and felt for Georgie.

Thank you Net Galley, Sue Watson, and Bookouture for this ARC.

I received this audiobook courtesy of Bookouture audio and NetGalley.

It tells the story of two families whose lives have been intertwined for years and then their children marry but unfortunately do not live happily ever after due to the new-ish bride Lauren being murdered.

I thought the plot was good, suspicion falls upon everyone. The story is told from the point of view of Georgie, Lauren’s mother-in-law.
The twist at the end was excellent, and then there’s a further twist in the epilogue. I really enjoyed that!
The narrator Tamsin Kinnard did a great job.
Now I’m off to find more by Sue Watson.

I received as an audiobook. This made me get up and out for my dog walks so I could on listening. A domestic drama featuring newlyweds, their parents and a tragic death. So many twists that make for a great read/listen.

I really enjoy thrillers as audiobooks. I find that they maintain the eerie quality you get reading a thriller and they keep you guessing just as much. This one was no different.

Following the viewpoint of The New Wife’s mother in law, who I have to say is completely gullible and believes the best of everyone. That comes across a lot from all of the characters we come to know throughout the story.

I did enjoy the pacing and the twists, but I did guess quite a few of them. That didn’t detract from my enjoyment though and after reading a few books I haven’t enjoyed much, this was an welcome change!

This one is definitely worth a listen! 4 stars for me!
