AUDIOBOOK -Truly loved the voice!
Steller domestic thriller
Georgie lives a charmed life - her wonderful son has recently married his childhood sweetheart Lauren, who also happens to be the eldest daughter of her best friends. This charm ends abruptly when Lauren falls to her death from a spiral staircase in their new isolated home in the woods. It isn't long before this fall is determined to be murder and Sam is the prime suspect! Suddenly Georgie has no one to turn to and is isolated and desperate. Who killed Lauren and why?
Georgie is the narrator of the story and she provides all of her thoughts ALL OF HER THOUGHTS. Honestly, they are quite charming in an audiobook. Like any parent, she cannot believe her son could be guilty. She is determined to find out who did it and why. She is very chatty and once you are used to the cadance it really works. As always, I am annoyed when people in the story don't say what they mean - I wish she would tell a few of the characters off! But I did appreciate that as a doting mother that the steps she took to protect her son where believable and within reason. The book probably could have used a few more characters and events but I did enjoy it and you will too! If you like domestic thrillers you are sure to enjoy #TheNewWife. #NetGalley
Sue Watson made a very good move when she moved over to the dark side from romantic comedy. Each book she writes gets better and better. The New Wife clearly shows that when Sue sets the scene and we follow a story told from Georgie, mother of son POV. Sam who is marries childhood sweetheart Lauren. Then things take a turn and Lauren is found dead, three months later!
OMG this book grabs you right from the start. I was so there with Georgie trying to piece the puzzle together and work out what really happened. With some brilliant character development along the way. I could totally relate to Georgie being a single mother like myself.
I love the narrator who has done a fabulous job telling this story. It felt like Georgie was telling me the story herself. With emotion and anxiety in her voice. This is a brilliant who dunn it story, seriously keeping you guessing until the end. Wow, Wow, Wow…..bloody brilliant!
The New Wife is full of mystery and suspense that will keep you gripped from start to finish. The more I listened to this the more I wanted to know. It is with a doubt a brilliant story. With a rather shocking twist…..I wasn’t expecting that!
This book is a must read psychological thriller fans are going to love it.

What better to listen to whilst tidying my garden for winter, than a twist and turn thriller. 😱 I’m surprised I didn’t cut back the wrong plants. I was so caught up in the revelations that continued to spiral throughout the story!
Georgie, the protagonist of The New Wife was a fun character. As the story progressed, she turned into a proper little Miss Marple, wanting to solve the crime all by herself. I realised I was talking to her often, as I wandered around the garden, and telling her what she should and shouldn’t be doing! 🤣
I found The New Wife slow to begin with as we were introduced to all the characters and their backgrounds, however, once we knew their relevance to the story it soon sped up and I was excited to see what the next twist would be and how it would fit into the story.
A quick read and listen if you’ve got a few hours to spare and fancy some surprises. I defy anyone to guess the ending. I certainly didn’t!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture Audio for the opportunity to listen to and review an ARC of The New Wife by Sue Watson, read by Tamsin Kennard.
The momma lion 🦁 in me was roaring to come out as I read through the pages of this amazing new thriller by Sue Watson! Being blessed as a mother of three, but having only one son, I could feel Georgie’s pain and desperation as she tirelessly fought for her son Sam. Sue not only ensnared me at the beginning of her novel with the outstanding plot, she was also able to create such relatable characters that it was hard for me to close the book 📖 because it felt like I was “leaving” them somehow. Totally captivating read from start to finish! Incontestably another 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ novel from Sue Watson!
4.5 Stars
Many many twist ..... Just when you think you know who the killer is, you really don't! Keeps you guessing till the very end. This is a book about murder, family secrets & affairs.

Review of The New Wife by Sue Watson
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I listened to this one on audio courtesy of @netgalley and @bookoutureaudio. I enjoyed the narration as well as the story. This one started off quickly and the great pace continued throughout the book. I flew through this book in 2 days. I spent most of the day yesterday listening because I just had to find out what happened.
Quick synopsis: Georgie is thrilled when her son Sam married his childhood sweetheart Lauren. They met the first day of school and Georgie became very close friends with Lauren’s parents, Helen and Tim. They are one big happy family until Lauren is found dead at home. At first they all believe it is an accident but then they find out it was murder. Who did it? Georgie is determined to find out. I have to say I did not guess the ending of this one at all.
This one is out today!
Thanks so much to @netgalley and @suewatson for the advanced copy.

"You can never truly know what goes on behind closed doors…
My darling son, Sam, is marrying his childhood sweetheart and I couldn’t be prouder of the man he’s grown into. Walking out on his abusive father all those years ago was the best thing I ever did. And today he stands, tall and handsome, saying ‘I do’ to my dream daughter-in-law. If I hadn’t pushed them together all those years ago, he might never have found a girl as perfect as Lauren. It’s true what they say, mother always knows best.
But weeks later, Lauren is dead and police cars fill the driveway of their idyllic countryside home. As they question Sam, I sense he’s hiding something. Why won’t he look me in the eye? And who does he rush off to meet as soon as the police are gone?"
Thank you to Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the ALC in enhance for my honest review!
I thoroughly enjoyed this psychological thriller from Sue Watson! A solid 4 stars!
👍🏼
• The writing gripped me from the very beginning and I was instantly hooked. Finished this one in less than a day!
• Who killed Lauren? There are only a handful of characters, and at one point or another in seems as though everyone is in play. I eventually figured it out, but it kept me guessing almost the whole way through!
• The audio was amazing - highly recommend listening to this thriller!
👎🏼
• As much as I appreciate an eleventh hour twist, I didn’t love the last page or two of this one. I felt it was a little unnecessary.

Domestic violence (mentioned), alcohol abuse, statutory rape (mentioned)
I don’t have an expression strong enough to describe how I felt when I was whacked over the head by the shocking twists in The New Wife! Sue Watson keeps outdoing herself! I have no idea what she’s going to do for her next book! I loved the character development and descriptions. I felt like I actually knew them for years! Of course I was pleased that our main character, Georgie, was in first person. I don’t think this is a spoiler because it’s quite general but I kept applying my theories to multiple characters and I truly thought that they fit until the shocking twists at the end! And then MORE twists! And if you think you can guess the twists, then you’re freaking WRONG! And I LOVE being wrong! It makes me do my thriller book happy dance! So buckle up and enjoy the ride because this was a quick read and you’ll plow right through it! And the narrator was superb! I looked her up and she narrates tons of books by some of my favorite Bookouture authors (including more Sue Watson books! *squealing noises!* ) so I’ll be grabbing a bunch of those to listen to while I’m doing annoying things like cooking and working to make me happy and reading!
The New Wife by Sue Watson
You never truly know what happens behind closed doors...
Childhood sweethearts Sam and Lauren get married, both families are so happy! They have all become a close family.
But the happiness doesn't last long, as Lauren is soon found dead by Sam.
The police rule her death as a homicide. Sam is taken into custody.
Sam's mom, Georgie, tries to find the truth behind Lauren's death as she is convinced her son didn't do it.
I enjoyed listening to this book! I was interested the entire time! Great twists.
Thank you Sue Watson, Bookouture Audio and NetGalley for the audio to listen to this book in return for my honest review!
Thank you to Netgalley, Bookoture Audio, and Sue Watson for giving me the opportunity to listen to this book.
This book kept me hooked from start till the end. Sam and Lauren, childhood sweets hearts, get married and both families are so happy with this union as they've all become a family now. But their happiness did not last long. In an unfortunate event, Lauren dies at the cottage, newly bought by the couple after their wedding. Her death was ruled as a homicide and Sam was taken into custody as the prime suspect. As Sam's mother Georgie tries to find out the truth about Lauren's death, she opens up some deeply buried secrets, which would change everything she believed in, about all the people in her life.
I liked that the book is from Georgie's POV. Her struggles as a single mother and to help her son was truly emotional and we can empathize with her. The story is faced paced and the narration was excellent. I am in love with the ending..!! It has a very important message and also shows our moral responsibility to the ones we love.
Overall it's a great thriller, with an intriguing plot and unexpected plot twists. Definitely highly recommended. !!
engaging book set in a modern setting, childhood sweethearts get married in their 20's and settle down. When the wife dies it opens a can of worms and mixed with grief, all the built up tensions explode. Full of intrigue and suspense, i read it quickly because i wanted to know the ending. Story told from the view of the mother of the groom, but what can you believe? Flowed well and kept me hooked. Thank you #NetGalley for the audio book to review.
Thank you for the opportunity to listen to this book. This domestic thriller scratches every itch for such a novel. Listen to it in 2 settings. Great book with many twists and a good, pace-holding ending without an info dump.
It took me a week to finish the audiobook and I’d like to praise the voice narrator. She was so good! Her voice interpreted the emotions in every dialogue perfectly and I just love her.
The premise was intriguing and the characters were suspicious. I was accusing everyone, trying to make the puzzle pieces fit together. The build-up was a little bit slow but when the unexpected truth was revealed, everything made sense and the twists kept coming.
Also, the ending was shocking! Just when I thought this book couldn’t surprise me any further— it did and it was so good.
If you think you know someone, having spent decades with them, think again. This book will make you question everything you know about people.
Thank you again to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC! 👍🏻
I generally really liked this book, although I have several reservations about it. I found it quite engrossing, with a fair amount of suspense, and I kept wanting to return to it to find out what happened next. I liked that there were always just enough clues to make me feel I had cleverly figured something out shortly before it was revealed, and then there would be a twist so that my theory wasn't the answer after all. I grew so fond of the twists that when I saw I had 10 minutes left in the book at the point I had to stop listening to go to work, I couldn't wait for the day to be over so I could enjoy one more delicious twist--but then it turned out there were only 2 sentences left in the book (the remainder of the 10 minutes was a preview of an upcoming book) and there was no final twist, so that was a bit disappointing. But generally, an enjoyable read (or listen), with an absolutely wonderful narrator.
But here's what I didn't like so much. First, the author misuses "me" and "I" way too often. I know there are many people who don't know the proper usage these days, but I do expect better of the British (perhaps a foolish assumption) and certainly of an editor. Second, it was strange to me that Georgie continues to say that a character is guilty of murder when it has become clear that that's not true; not sure why she couldn't adjust to the new facts presented to her. And finally, what's with that title and the little teaser phrases on the cover? As far as I can see, they had nothing to do with this book. I almost wondered whether there had been a technological glitch and the cover and title I was seeing had been switched with another book. It's as if someone decided that these titles and descriptions really sell books and that they'd go with them, even though they were totally misleading. Still, I did enjoy this book and would happily read more by this author. Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance audio version of the book.
I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. "First Date" was a five-star read for me but "The Forever Home" was a struggle. I'm happy to report I enjoyed this one!
This story moves quickly and has a lot of things going on, but for the most part they're managed well. I suspected the culprit about 1/2 way through but there were enough valid red herrings to keep me guessing. The last 1/4 of the book it bordered on too many red herrings, but again it was well managed. As the last twist right at the end was a good last punch.
Definitely highly recommended!
Thank you to NetGalley, Sue Watson, and Bookouture for this book in exchange for my honest review.
It was hard for me to get into this as this book is a slower burn. I am much more of a first page, hooked type of reader. But, I gave it a shot and listened to this the whole way through. I felt as though if it would have continuously been suspenseful the whole way through, it would have been a much better read. The base of the plot (I won't spoil it), felt unrealistic.

The New Wife by Sue Watson is a slow burn, a psychological thriller whose ending surprised me. Sam and Lauren are lifelong friends that everyone knew would get married eventually. They get married and the two families, who are good friends, become one. All is perfect, at least that's what it seems. Except Lauren is found dead in their marital home three months after their wedding...and the police are calling it a homicide. Of course, everything is pointing to Sam as the culprit, but you know that things are never as they seem...This was a really good, enjoyable book, especially if you like the slow-burn psychological thrillers. I felt like this book could have moved a little faster in parts, but overall it was really enjoyable and I certainly didn't see the ending coming (though the clues were there all along), which is always a good thing! This is my first Sue Watson novel, but I'm definitely interested in listening to/reading more of her work!
Tamsin Kennard really brought the story to life with her performance. The story is told through Georgie's POV and the narration was believable, easy to listen to, and well done. This is read with an English accent but was easily understandable by this American girl.
Thanks to Net Galley, Bookouture Audio, and Sue Watson for the opportunity to listen and review this ARC!
Thank you Bookouture for this book in exchange for my honest review. The description of the book called my name. However….
I am not a “slow burn” kind of reader — hook me in the beginning and keep me hooked or I lose interest. Unfortunately, this book held my interest for the first part but it quickly lost the ability to intrigue me.
This was my first read by Sue Watson, but it certainly won't be my last! I admit the summation of this plot didn't grab me initially. I thought it would be pretty standard fare. Boy was I wrong! I kept rushing back to listen to this book whenever I got a moment!
Sam and Lauren met in nursery school, and Moms Georgie and Helen couldn't be happier that they've ended up marrying. Single mom Georgie raised Sam by herself, and Helen and Tim, parents to Lauren, became her best friends. Now they are one big happy family! Until newlywed Lauren turns up dead.
This book is told from the viewpoint of Georgie, who is an utterly delightful companion. I listened to the book, and the narrator sounded just write as she relayed Georgie's story. Georgie is heartbroken when her new daughter in law is found dead, but when her son Sam is arrested, she will go all out to prove his innocence.
Even though there was a very small cast of characters in this novel, and thus, not many suspects, it still managed to give many twists and turns in the story. Just as I thought I had the plot figured out, there would be a new reveal. The author did a great job of building mounting suspense, and keeping the reader turning the pages!
I can recommend this book to lovers of domestic crime drama. You will be in good hands with the writing of Sue Watson!
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and Bookouture publishing for allowing me to listen to this audio ARC in exchange for an honest review! I would rate this 4.5 stars, but what the heck, I'm giving it 5 stars!
To the author, Sue Watson, yes this story certainly did take me somewhere special and I did enjoy the journey! Sam and Lauren meet in pre-school and Sam's mom and Lauren's parents become the best of friends. Fast forward twenty years, and Sam and Lauren are getting married. What could be better than having your in-laws be your best friends, right? Well, shortly after the wedding, Lauren dies and it's always the husband, ha. I enjoyed the way the story comes together and falls apart. The narrator also does a great job telling the story. #netgalley #thenewwife
