I read this book in less than 2 days, I was so enthralled by it from the beginning! I'd recommend it for anyone with a penchant for Regency romances, whose language flows so easily and is characteristic of the time, and a spunky heroine who know what they clearly want and is unafraid to speak up about their aims and give absurdly valid reasons for acting so. Kitty Talbot is very reminiscent of Becky Sharp, which I loved, and her sparring with Lord Radcliffe was great to read.

If you love regency romance then this is a book for you! You won’t be disappointed. As you read this novel you see if visions of Bridgerton, Sanditon, and Jane Austen’s England.
This is pure escapism, the book does exactly what it says in the blurb. A great hate to love romance novel.

As a fan of regency novels, I absolutely loved this book, I didn't want the book to end!. Kitty and Lord Radcliffe were fantastic characters. A wonderful debut by Sophie Irwin. A must read .

I enjoyed it but I was frustrated that the book was practically over before Kitty and Radcliffe even started to develop feelings for each other. This was a fun read and a good book but it didn't quite manage to be great. Too slow, not enough slow-burn.

When her parents die and leave Kitty in charge of her siblings and paying off her father's debts, she comes to the conclusion that the only way out is to find herself a rich man! I spent my entire sunday reading this romance novel and it brought a bit of sunshine into my life. It’s like a warm blanket in the current sadness of the world. Thank you to the publishers for this early review copy. it was a joy to read!

It’s 1818 and Kitty Talbot has lost both of her parents and faces debt collectors who want to repossess her house. How can she save herself and her four younger sisters? She must go to London, for the season is about to start, and bag herself a rich husband of course!!
This was a fab, fun read. I really liked Kitty’s character and she wastes no time in finding a young, handsome, rich man to woo. His older brother has other ideas though.
A really good example of a hate-to-love romance, beautiful descriptions and some comedy thrown in too.
Perfect for fans of Jane Austen, Georgette Heyer and Bridgerton (without all the steamy scenes!)
I highly recommend reading to escape the doom and gloom of the world. 🌟🌟🌟🌟💫
Thanks to Netgalley for my copy ☺️

Thanks to #NetGalley for the eARC of A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting by Sophie Irwin.

What a delightfully fun book! I thoroughly enjoyed this contemporary version of a Regency romance. I will be watching for more from this author, who writes engaging and believable characters.

KANTHONY STANS - YOUR ENEMIES TO LOVERS VIBE IS BACK.

Honestly, this is like a hangover cure for anyone like me who binged Bridgerton S2 in one day and now doesn't know what to do for the next year and a half. It's Regency England and someone is trying to perpetrate the closed-off circles of the bon ton. Our heroine Kitty must conquer society with her sister by her side to keep her four other sisters with a roof over their heads. She sets her sights, initially, on a green young gentleman named Archie (aka Colin) but finds herself afoul of his closed-off elder brother James who is dealing with the weight of a new title (aka Anthony).

There are some brushes with the aforementioned mega-series in ideas of themes - I know the pain, writing regency work myself. But Irwin's novel holds its own. It's sheer escapism, and so much fun to read. Like Austen got an upgrade.

It took me a few moments to get into this book. Once James and Kitty met - and became enemies - I was fully invested. Their verbal sparring, the fun of watching someone try to navigate this mysterious world they have no concept of - and how the story unfolds - was such a joy to read and provided some much needed escapism over a handful of afternoons (I finished almost half of it in one afternoon).

It is, however, a bit bland. It's very traditional (and, without explicit mention, rather white) and I often felt there was much further the book could've been pushed that it just didn't. The stakes, whilst present, weren't high - and you always know the story is going to end happily. Nothing really caused a lot of jeopardy, and if it did, it wasn't for very long.

Fair warning for those who enjoy historical romance - this is very PG. In fact, it's bordering on U, with the exception to some profane language and references to gambling, drinking and opium. Sex is non-existent here - and I think we do need to stop pretending the Regency lads were prim and proper because holy shit they weren't. It's closer to Heyer and Austen than Quinn and Dare, which is not particularly my style. But nevertheless, it's a fun read that, whilst missing a trick (for me) by making it so traditional - will fill that little hole in your heart that Kate and Anthony Bridgerton left on March 25th.

When Kitty Talbot finds herself orphaned, jilted and financially responsible for her four younger sisters, she hatches a plan - she will travel to London and find herself a rich husband. But she has only a few months before the money runs out and their family home is repossessed.

Kitty reasons that what she is doing is no less calculated than the arranged marriages of the Ton, but when she sets her sights on the wealthy Archie Radcliffe, his older brother, Lord Radcliffe, does not take that view and sets out to thwart her plan.

I thoroughly enjoyed this delightful regency romance, worthy of Georgette Heyer, and perfect for fans of Bridgerton.

While not my usual type of read, Bridgerton fever has hit again and I couldn't resist this title.

Kitty Talbot is the eldest of the Talbot sisters, and with her parents gone, it's down to her to secure her family's future. Her parents left considerable debt, and if they are to keep their home then she needs to find a fortune - and fast. So she takes herself and her sister to London where the season is about to begin, and she intends to snag herself a rich husband.

This was a quick, enjoyable read. It was however rather predictable and felt less of a work of adult fiction than I'd anticipated. However, it has the Bridgerton-vibes and that's what I was craving to read.

I just loved the book. The oh so sensible Kitty taking on the Ton pretty much single handedly. She must find a husband and he must be rich - not only that but there is a deadline before the house is taken away and her sibling are flung into poverty. Kitty flings herself into the hunt with gusto and with a very level head. Despite the focused hunt, Kitty is endearing and whilst she has to find a rich husband, there is a glimmer of hope that she might also find love.

I enjoyed reading Sophie's whimsical story on a lazy afternoon while recovering from COVID. Very much in the style of Austen, I read it in one sitting. How much of it is realistic, I have no idea but I thoroughly enjoyed the escapism and indulgence of it.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me a free copy of the book to read in return for an honest review.

I love Regency romances! This book is an excellent addition to the genre, and is a lot more nuanced and thought-provoking, for a light-hearted read!
Kitty Talbot needs to find a rich husband, and fast, since her impractical parents have left her with very little money, and a mountain of debt-in the tradition of several Regency romances ( 'Frederica', 'A convenient marriage' and 'Arabella' by Georgette Heyer have similar circumstances for the heroines). Where this book differs, is in its exploration of the circumstances-it doesn't gloss over what would happen to the family if Kitty isn't able to succeed at this. Kitty might be a bit of what we would call a gold-digger, but why shouldn't she be, really, at a time when options for gainful employment were practically non-existent for women, and while there were some iconoclasts like Jane Austen and Mary Wollstonecraft, it wasn't viable for most women. And even women who had successful careers on the stage, for instance, were rather looked down upon. Kitty's sense of urgency and her constant worry are communicated very effectively, something I really appreciated about the book. Unlike a lot of books in this genre, Kitty isn't one of those naive and adorable heroines who captures the sardonic aristocratic hero's heart with her ingenuousness-she's very much a woman on the make, and she always has a scheme up her sleeve. That she's depicted with nuance, and sympathy, is a tribute to Sophie Irwin's talent as a writer-we all work hard at our jobs, don't we, and Kitty was trying the same-her perfect job being the wife of someone with the money to clear her family's debts and provide for them! I also found her parents' story fascinating-you don't usually read of heroines with families like hers, and the difficulties she faces trying to succeed in a deeply classist society. And the aristocratic hero isn't a jaded rich guy charmed by the noble fresh-faced ingenue-he's a veteran of the Napoleonic Wars clearly suffering from PTSD, at a time when one's attitude to everything-from a broken shoe buckle to surviving Waterloo, had to be a perfectly stiff upper lip. I loved the spin the author put on familiar tropes-Kitty's sister, Cecy, loves to read, and is quite nerdy, but unlike other books, this isn't held against her, and she actually is shown saving the day for them, on a couple of occasions. The romance grows very organically, and is absolutely lovely-you get a sense of the true connection between the protagonists, and Kitty doesn't have to change, to be deemed worthy of love ( even the fabulous Becky Sharp is made to display a kind heart at the end of Vanity Fair). This is a delightful book, and I read it twice in the span of a week. I hope Sophie Irwin continues to write-maybe a prequel about Kitty's parents next?! Can't wait for her next book!

A pleasant introduction into the regency romance genre. A very closed door Romance. Would be greater for teens just stepping into the young adult sphere.

This book was AMAZING. I mean obviously you’ve got to be a fan of historical period drama but if you love Bridgerton you will LOVE this, I really admired Kitty’s tenacity, determination and love for her family. Plus the fact that although she was clearly after a man of fortune, she was honest and worked hard. It was such a great story and I am so pleased to have found a new author. I devoured the whole book in a day- so only start it when you’ve got a decent chunk of spare time immediately available!

"A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting" is the tale of the Talbot sisters, who are left with a cottage and little else apart from debts when their parents die. Kitty, the oldest, sees it as her role to save the girls from homelessness and destitution. Her plan involves launching herself into London Society to snag herself a rich husband. She takes one of younger sisters with her and they enlist the help of their "aunt" Dorothy, their late mother's best friend.

This is a lovely book; it is like a modern day Georgette Heyer. Kitty struggles to understand the rules of Regency society, to keep her past hidden and look out for younger sister Cecily. Of course there is a happy ending, which the reader can see coming a mile off, but this is all about the journey, the adventures and wit along the way.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.

Firstly I want to thank Netgalley and the publisher for the e-arc 🥰😍

I’m a great lover of a regency romance and this book did not disappoint at all!! It was super refreshing to have the main character more out spoken than we usually see in most historical romances. Kitty is just the best, she knows what she wants and she is completely unapologetic about it. I love how she navigates regency London and uses it to find what she’s looking for despite her birth. Her relationship with Lord Radcliffe is everything you want in romance novel and I’m totally here for him ❤️❤️

I really enjoyed the book as a whole but I did feel the end was a little rushed? Though that might just be me wanting more 😂😅 It’s really addictive and I totally read it in a day!!

For fans of Bridgeton, the light hearted story of Kitty Talbot, who travels to
London to try to bag herself a rich husband to save her family home, is reminiscent of the latest show season. The writing feels at time a bit rushed and the story is quite predictable but it remains nonetheless a pleasant and entertaining read.
