A lovely piece of Regency Romance in the ilk of Georgette Heyer.

A great diverting read, highly recommended.

Thank you to the publisher for my eARC copy of this book. Unfortunately I didn’t love this book and therefore didn’t finish, I just didn’t connect with this one. Not for me, sorry.

A nice Regency style book which is perfect for all the Bridgerton lovers!

I enjoyed all of the glamorous settings and the main character but wished the final love affair was done in greater depth!

I picked this one for a bit of light escapism and it was the perfect choice. This is a fun, well-written Regency romance that doesn’t do anything groundbreaking, but does what it says on the tin brilliantly. I felt immersed in the glamour, gossip and scandal of high society and enjoyed every page. If you’re feeling the Bridgerton withdrawal symptoms, this is the book for you!

I loved the character of Kitty. Somehow I was rooting for her all the way through even though she was a self-proclaimed fortune hunter - she was always up front about her family being the priority and it’s interesting how that blurs the lines of morality. Avoiding any spoilers, I thought her relationship with the love interest was well paced and developed throughout. For all you introverts out there, Cecily is my spirit animal..!

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

If you’re looking for something to take the edge off your Bridgerton withdrawal symptoms then this is just the ticket!

Kitty is in need of a fortune and this has no choice but to make her societal debut, and as you’d expect for a Regency Romance we soon get introduced to a man with said fortune. Unfortunately/ fortunately he is exasperatingly annoying and him and Kitty are soon locked in a battle of exchange barbs and witty repartee,
The book focuses more on the characters than plot in my opinion, but if you’re after that pride and prejudice type angst this is perfect, I’d have preferred a bit more smut but that’s just personal preference, I’ll 100% read more by this author!

I don't read too many historical romances, but the blurb made the book sound amusing and I was not disappointed with this well written, fun read, which is packed with feisty banter and amusing scheming. I loved that Kitty was not apologetic in fortune-hunting - she really is mercenary in her goal to find a wealthy husband. I loved the development of the relationship between Kitty and Lord Radcliffe (although it probably came together at the end a bit too quickly for my liking). There were no steamy scenes, so it's pretty tame, but a completely enjoyable read anyway. This really is a great debut novel and I will most definitely read Sophie Irwin's future books. I read this book without being able to put it down, so I don't thank NetGallery and HarperCollins UK for the sleepless night, but I do thank them for providing a great source of fun entertainment.

4.5 stars

I loved reading this so much! It was one of those books that really grows on you, not just in the way the plot progresses but also with how you see the characters evolving. The romance was a slow burn and had you on your toes all the way through.

In the beginning I was put off by Kitty's character a great deal. However, as you read and discover more about her, you begin to see who she is and all the things that make her so wonderful. The same can be said about Lord Radcliffe.

Sophie Irwin writes her characters in a way that keeps you hooked. As you read, you feel as though you're meeting a new friend and getting to know them with each turning page.

I loved the enemies to lovers trope, it's one of my favourites and one that was executed tremendously by Irwin. I loved the chemistry between the characters and how much their relationship developed over time.

Overall, this was a wonderful read and I look forward to reading more by Sophie Irwin.

The publisher kindly provided ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I’m somewhat conflicted on how to review this one. The historical romance market is a crowded one, even more so after the success of That Netflix Series, and any newcomers have to have that undefinable something if they’re going to stand out from the crowd. A quarter of the way into the book, and I wasn’t really feeling it. Eldest daughter left in charge of the family after her parents’ deaths, must marry well to save her sisters’ futures? Yeah, we’ve seen that one before.

But then I kept going, and started to think, well, maybe that’s the point here. Unlike so many other books in this genre, there’s no mystery, no dramatic action (although to be fair, we do suddenly get some of that in the last quarter), no lady scientists or detectives or wallflowers. What this book does cover is the difficulties faced by young women of a certain social class in Regency times, when they’ve been left with nothing and don’t have the knowledge or social connections to make the type of marriage that is their only solution. How far are they willing to go to achieve their aims?

In the case of Kitty, quite far. She’s actually quite refreshing in her ruthlessness: she doesn’t hide her reasons for it, which stops her being completely unlikeable. She is a strong leading character and is the main reason the plot trips along as well as it does… because unfortunately all the other characters pale in comparison, and that includes her eventual love interest. There didn’t seem to be any real chemistry between them, which was a shame… but maybe also realistic for the time, who knows?

In summary, a 3.5 star read. A fun diversion, but for me, not a keeper.

A must read for any Regency fans. Ticks all the books for this genre. I’m often disappointed by this type of book but not in this case. Good strong characters and nice twist on a common trope.

A LADY'S GUIDE TO FORTUNE-HUNTING is a fun, sparkling read. It was a romp of a book that I really enjoyed, perfect for fans of BRIDGERTON and regency rom-coms. It was great escapist fun.

This book had so much potential and it came close to filling it, it just fell slightly short for me. If there had been a touch more chemistry between the two protagonists, a dash more romance, a less YA feel about it. I still really enjoyed it though, enough to definitely read another book by the author. Maybe in the same universe? I'd love to know what put the gleam in Amelia's eye at the end, and how Cecily gets on!

Fabulously refreshing and wickedly humourous, Sophie Irwin’s regency rom-com debut; with it’s deliciously addictive scandals and feisty, take charge heroine was a fun and undeniably uplifting novel that Bridgerton fans are bound to enjoy.

It’s 1818 and Kitty Talbot needs a husband. Or more specifically, a husband who has a fortune.

With only twelve weeks until the bailiffs call, Kitty has no choice but to launch herself into London society, using every ounce of cunning and ingenuity she possesses to climb the ranks.

The only one to see through her plans is the world war hero Lord Radcliffe and he’s determined to thwart her at any cost, especially when her charm is focused solely on his impressionable younger brother, Archie who’s set to inherit a fortune.

Can Kitty secure a fortune and save her sisters from poverty? There’s no time to lose and no one—not even a Lord—will stand in her way…

This was a genuinely fun and lighthearted read that I absolutely loved! Kitty was a likeable and incredibly intriguing protagonist-she’s smart, pragmatic and rather mercenary in her goal to catch herself a wealthy husband which I found refreshing among the dozens of Regency romances that’ve cropped up in the wake of Bridgerton’s success.

It was great to get a protagonist that’s honest and rather upfront about her scheming and watching her navigate the social etiquette of the upper classes (and the faux pas she inevitably makes along the way) was both phenomenally entertaining and period accurate.

The gorgeously detailed and vivid imagery was also stunning-I loved being swept up in the Balls, dinners, strolls through Hyde park, idle speculation and drama that Kitty encounters, especially her interactions with members of the Ton. I loved the conversational back and forths between Kitty and James (Lord Radcliffe) which were absolutely amazing and though the relationship between these two is a slow-burn one (and doesn’t have any steamy scenes) it’s still definitely worth a read.

honestly, this is one of the best romances I’ve read so far this year and regency romance/rom-com fans are bound to enjoy it!

Also, a huge thank you to HarperCollins UK and Netgalley for the e-arc.

What a breath of fresh air in my COVID sick bed! I haven't read many Regency novels (other than the obvious classics written at the time) and was very pleasantly surprised with A Lady's Guide to Fortune-Hunting by Sophie Irwin. I was lucky enough to read and review an early copy via #NetGalley and it was exactly what the doctor ordered.
Kitty is a clever and determined young woman, who recognises that the societal limitations on women mean her only way of providing for her younger sisters after the death of their parents is to find herself a rich man. She leave Dorset for London on a quest to do exactly that.
Charming and engaging from page 1, it is intelligently written with humour and sensitivity.
I definitely recommend this lovely book and will be looking out for book 2. (Please tell me there is going to be a book 2?)

This was a light-hearted fun romp through Regency London. Newly orphaned and jilted Kitty Talbot decides that the only way she can repay all her parents’ debts and look after her younger sisters is by travelling to London and finding a wealthy husband.
She and a younger sister go to stay with their mother’s oldest friend who has a distinctly murky past and try to join elite society in order to attract a wealthy suitor. All the trademark notes of a Regency romance are present in this book: officers returned from the horrors of Waterloo, Almacks and Hyde Park together with the essential balls. Kitty is a likeable but strong willed character who will not be put off her objective even though she has the occasional doubt about whether she is doing the right thing. Some of the best scenes are when she justifies her actions by pointing out the fact that she has no other alternatives open to her. Many of the other characters will be familiar to lovers of Georgette Heyer but the author has a lively style and the book was an enjoyable read.
Thank you to Net Galley and Harper Collins for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Kitty needs to urgently marry into money, otherwise she and her four sisters will be evicted from their cottage following the death of their parents. She manages to find a way into London Society and had a rich prospective husband in her sights until his brother intervenes.
This started off as a solid 4* book for me, however as I read further into it I really became engrossed in the story. I'm not sure how I'd get on in Regency England, times were hard if you were poor, and if you were lucky enough to be part of the Gentry there were very strict rules on how to behave, who you could marry etc. I admired how Kitty played the system, whilst at the same time felt for her on how she was being forced to marry for money, rather than love. If you enjoy Regency romances I'm sure that you'll love this one.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.

This was charming total page turner. A lovely breezy, light, frothy cocktail of a book. If you are under the weather or finding it hard to concentrate on weighty tomes then this is the perfect tonic! Kitty's parents have died and left her and her four sisters with a mountain of debt.. Kitty is determined to save the family and her home by heading with £10 worth of jewels to sell and the invitation to stay with her mother's old friend ( a former actress)whom she has never met to try to inveigle a way into "the seaon" and bag a well heeled husband. The story delivers just as you would expect it to. There no big surprises or any real jeopardy. No nasty stuff just charming cheeky fun.

This book grew on me as a I read it and it gave a great look into society and how it operated. Felt quite Downton Abbey/Gilded Age where some people fit in and others fight their way in,

A good read and you were willing it to turn out for the best.

This historical romance has a wonderful cover, a bland story and very cardboard cutout characters. I was hoping for witty banter, character development, a grand romance, or lavish descriptions of Regency London, but instead we got one dull scene after another.

This got off to a slow start and I was nervous that it was going to be struggle, but in the end it was a ton of fun. Definitely one for fans of period dramas, it follows Kitty who's in need of a wealthy husband. She manages to rope in the upper class Radcliffe to help her find one. I loved both of these chararcters, they were full of fire and wit. The bickering and mischief they get into along the way was thoroughly entertaining. Exactly what I needed at the moment.

This is a regency romance, recommended for fans of Bridgerton and Pride and Prejudice. Now, I haven't seen Bridgerton, and I last read Pride and Prejudice over a decade ago, but I do love a good historical romance.

Kitty, jilted by her fiance and desperately in need of funds to support her younger sisters, goes to London to find herself a husband with a fortune. She sets her sights on Archie de Lacey, and begins to infiltrate the Ton, but Archie's older brother Lord Radcliffe is not so easily tricked by her, and works to foil her plans.

I really liked Radcliffe (James). A bit of a recluse, a little bit traumatised, and doing his best in an environment he's not comfortable in. The verbal sparring between Kitty and James is just wonderful. This is very much a slow burn of a romance, making you wait till the very end for any payoff, but it's a lot of fun. I found it slightly slow at times, but when things get going, they really get going. There's plenty of drama, snarking, and softer moments, plus dresses and balls and dancing. Well worth a read.
