This was a good page turner - it's dark, suspenseful, and has more than a few twists. I liked how the story was told, as if Kat was talking to her dead husband. I thought that having just her point of view was a good way to build the suspense. The three main characters are all unlikeable, and while I enjoy stories with unlikeable characters, this just felt a little overdone. There were twists I didn't guess, and some of them had my jaw dropping. This was an enjoyable read & I look forward to reading more from this author.
I didn't know what to expect from this book, but I really enjoyed it.
The story is about Kat, recently widowed and still trying to come to terms with her loss. After joining a new club for bereaved people, she meets Nico who seems just what she needs to help her move on. And she immediately falls in love with his small daughter, Magdalena. But things aren't always what they seem and soon Kat starts to question Nico's motives.
I loved the fact that I had no idea which direction the book was going to take and, just as you think you have one thing worked out, the author throws another twist in. I didn't find any of the characters particularly likeable, but perhaps they weren't meant to be. This didn't take anything away from the story for me.
I also didn't guess the ending, which is always a plus for me, as I read so many psychological thrillers. I'll definitely look out for the author's next book.
Thanks to publishers Oneworld Publications and Net Galley for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
A riveting read which was a hybrid of a romance and a thriller. However the descriptions were too overdone and the ending was overlong. It could have finished at least two pages before.
I thought this book was a really good read. I really had no idea what direction it was going in, I wasn't even sure what genre I was reading. The writing style was good, and the characters were believable .I stayed up way too late to finish the book ,it got to the stage where I really couldn't put it down, and that is always a good sign. I loved it.
A compelling read that defied all my expectations and kept the twists coming right up until the final page. I loved how engaging and real the characters were, particularly the protagonist who I liked and loathed in equal amounts!
It's time for a New Horizon for Kat. She's making a new start in the countryside after the sudden loss of her husband, and finds herself literally in New Horizons, the name of the group lovingly dubbed Coffin Club by its members, including Nico.
Nico is a breath of fresh air. A reminder that all is not lost, that she might just be able to have love again. He's gorgeous, sweet, handsome, and a brilliant father to a beautiful little girl. This might be her chance to start again, to be loved, and most importantly to have a family like she's always wanted.
Her deepest wishes are coming to life, but you know what they about wishes ...
The Coffin Club is a sinister tale of love, loss and obsession with a deceptively pretty backdrop. Sutherland lures the reader in with a promise of a beautiful countryside town and a quiet life of new beginnings and recovery, only to shatter any illusions of safety into a million pieces.
A quiet, subtle terror is painted perfectly as the story progresses, creating a strange thriller-romance hybrid that on paper shouldn't have worked but was executed brilliantly. Deceptive and misleading, this story is one big grey area - with impeccably written characters who aren't good or bad, who are questionable but justifiable, and you might not like but will intrigue the reader nonetheless. A dark, chilling tale that will remind you that nothing is ever as it seems.
The Coffin Club was an amazing read, with well-developed characters and a storyline that kept me hooked. Highly recommend it! Can't wait to see what comes next from this writer.
Thanks for the opportunity to read this ARC.
Absolutely loved the title of the book and couldn't wait to get stuck into reading it. The premise was intriguing and the writing is very good.
Now the bad bit, I just didn't like the main character and because I didn't like her or really any of the other characters I didn't enjoy the story.
I really enjoyed this book, it was gripped and hooked me right from the start. It was tense, suspenseful and full of mystery with a creepy undertone. A really good read.
