This book is so sad but there is a lot of love throughout as well. I love these kind of books, looking into the past just may be the way to improving your future...This is the story of Nell and her family. Nell decides to trackdown an unknown aunt and some family surprises are found out along the way. This is told in two timelines, 1969 and 2005. We have three main narrators as well, Florence, Nell and Douglas (Dougie).

This is my very first book by Freya North and she has such a popular catalog of stories to choose from, I don't know what took me so long! This was written from the heart and it broke my soul in places and at some points it put it back together again. I loved learning about Scotland and the areas surrounding Isle of Harris...I could picture the sea and smell the peat. Not only did I feel like I was there but I felt the emotions as well. Ms. North's writing puts you into the book and into the lives of her characters. The story is compelling, the writing lyrical and I found the entire thing so emotional. This book was truly an exceptional read and I loved every minute of it.

It’s been a long time since the last Freya North book and I was looking forward to reading this one. It definitely lived up to expectations.

Nell and Dougie: two lost souls. One asking questions about a long ago family secret, the other seeking redemption. Will the Isle of Harris provide them with the answers they are looking for?

Beautifully written. Wonderful characters. A moving emotional story which was a great read.

In the 1960s a young girl falls pregnant her family are embarrassed by the situation, and she is banished to the Outer Hebrides.

Years later Nell is struggling with her identity and coming to terms with her mother’s mental illness. Separately Dougie is also struggling, he’s stuck in a rut with his life and is wondering what to do next. During a trip to Scotland these two meet and help one another to heal.

This is a powerful and moving story about family secrets and how the truth will always come out. I have loved Freya North’s writing for years and I’m always excited when she releases a new novel. This is definitely one of my favourites from her.

I have read most of Freya North's novels over the years and found them to be easy and enjoyable reads. With Little Wing, North takes her writing and storytelling skills to a new level and I found this to be a moving, sensitive and beautifully written family drama. Little Wing tells the story of two families from the 1960s to the 2000s and I was gripped by the parallel stories of Nell and Dougie. I did not initially know how their lives would intertwine and North masterfully lets their stories gradually unfold. The sense of place- the Outer Hebrides- is beautifully evoked and I was completely transported there. I loved Nell and Dougie and I was completely invested in their stories. A beautiful, engrossing and emotional read that I would highly recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review a digital ARC.
