This book was a bit of a ride. Where we started was a wide departure from where we ended up, if you ask me. I really enjoyed the journey. I liked the characters, Harriet and her best friend especially had very good banter, and so did Harriet and Cal. I liked the slow burn of the development of their relationship but also I felt like we could've made a little bit more of it - it was sorta crammed into the last few pages.

We started out so overwhelmingly upper class rich British that it made me laugh unintentionally. There were also some intentionally humorous parts during the needlessly extended break up that took 12% of the book to get through when it was obvious it was about to happen. Not sure what the point of that was.

The big event of this book that we culminated towards was the take down of the abusive ex, Scott. And it was pretty epic, to be fair to it. We spent the first part of the book faffing around with Jon and it kinda feels like that plot could've been nixed because it was pointless and the only consequence was that she lost a friend.

I'm just a little bit underwhelmed because I think I was expecting more romance, because of the blurb, and it wasn't very romance-y at all, but that feels like it's on me because the story was pretty absorbing aside from that. I enjoyed her interactions with Cal and his best friend Sam and wished there'd been more positive interactions and less misunderstandings in their relationship, and that they could've gotten together a bit sooner in the book.

Mhairi’s novels never fail to tug at the heartstrings, she always makes me contemplate my decisions and also hold those I love closer to me. I enjoyed reading this

I couldn't read this as an ebook for some reason so got it when it published, and loved it - exactly what you'd expect from this author who always nails a rom-com!

Harriet Hatley is running away from everything.

Getting married.
Her boyfriend’s family.
Her past.

A dream house-share seems like the perfect place to hide, but her unlikely housemate Cal is no stranger to running away himself. And he's also hiding secrets of his own . . .

Can these two take a crazy risk, face the past and finally find a reason to stay?

I love Mhairi McFarlane, I found this to be a really lovely humourous novel that didn't shy away from talking about toxic relationships and difficult topics.

So so so funny but it packs an emotional punch too.
Along with brilliantly written characters!
I cannot wait to see what McFarlane does next.

I love the way Mhairi McFarlane makes you think you're signing up for a romance but always gives so much more! Love the girls supporting girls trope, always, and thought the subject of emotional abuse within a relationship was tackled well.

Imagine being a wedding photographer who doesn’t want to marry. Then your boyfriend proposes to you in front of all the family. Jon thinks his wealth will just change Harriet’s mind.

Harriet runs away into the arms of a man who left his bride at the altar.

An easy read with loveable characters.

I LOVED this book. I couldn’t put it down. The romance, more of a subplot, is a slow burn that adds so much depth to the story. If I could, I'd give it more than five stars.

I loved Harriet and Cal. And I loved the ending. Actually, loved the beginning and the middle too. It’s a really well written and fantastic book.

You get to follow Harriet’s journey from a broken heart after one very abusive relationship and one toxic relationship. That’s why when she realise she’s getting feelings for Cal she feels he’s not for her. If she gets to have him it would be for only one night. People like her don’t end up with people like Cal. Nobody told him this though and it turns out he loves Harriet just as much as she loves him..

Harriet is a successful wedding photographer but has no intention of getting married herself. Her boyfriend is also successful and rich but his family are very dominating but condescending about Harriet which he fails to see. When he chooses to propose to her in front of his entire family, she feels she has to say yes despite all her senses screaming at her to say no. Once alone, she breaks up with him and leaves.

She moves into a rented room, and finds out her landlord, Cal was a runaway groom from one of her wedding bookings. Things are awkward to begin with but feelings soon start to grow between them.

At another wedding, she spots a previous boyfriend who was mentally controlling with a new partner who looks just as defeated as she was. She takes it on herself to warn his new fiance without thinking of the consequences.

A great story of revenge - if you are brave enough

It took a while for me to get into this book due to personal circumstances however I'm glad I pushed on as it was a really great story. I liked most of the characters & the general storyline

Despite being a wedding photographer, Harriet is very definite that she doesn’t want to get married. So when her boyfriend proposes in front of his entire family, she can’t escape quick enough. Renting a room off Cal seems like a safe option, while she works out what to do with her life. But Cal also has a past he’s escaping, having jilted his bride at the altar. Can the pair find a way to be together?

Mad About You is another Mhairi McFarlane masterpiece, with a rude, overpowering mother, a rich, overprivileged ex, and a supporting cast of friends to spice up the mix. The interaction between Harriet and Cal works well and their building relationship is believable. It’s an enjoyable story which keeps you entertained through to the end.

Thoroughly recommend.

I found I was expecting more romance however the story focused more on the growth and progression of the characters. I enjoyed the authors style of writing and found it an enjoyable read.

I absolutely adored this book. I loved Harriet and Cal as characters and could see where it was heading a mile off. However, this book whilst light and with some laugh out loud bits also delved into more serious topics. They were written really well and have real food for thought. I’m a sucker for a love story and to be honest Harriet and Cals is now one of my favourites! A really good read that has me excited to read more by this author. Definitely going to be an auto buy for me.

A lovely read. You start this book thinking you know what you’re getting, what characters you’re going to meet. But then you’re hit like a freight train with a switch in the story you weren’t expecting!
Main character Harriet, goes from rejecting a public proposal, to house sharing with someone who is an ex client (Harriet is a wedding photographer) to confronting a toxic, soul destroying ex!
One thing is for sure, you won’t be bored reading this!! Definitely recommend!!
