Witty and original. The thought of the horror of a proposal in front of a family, especially if you really don't want to accept - eek! Rather a lot of characters to get to grip with and it certainly wasn't fluffy romance. An interesting read.

Absolutely loved this book!
The writing style was really good and I look forward to reading any other books from this author in the future :)

Mad About You is another brilliant novel by Mhairi McFarlane, who is truly one of my favorite authors. The premise is simple: Harriet, a professional wedding photographer, breaks up with her boyfriend and becomes roommates with Calvin, the runaway groom of a wedding she was hired to shoot. But there is SO much more to Harriet’s story
The thing that I love about McFarlane’s writing is that the stories are absolutely hilarious yet incredibly emotional. All of her characters are so cool, witty, yet unpretentious. You just want to hang out with them. But this story is heavy. It explores the impact and aftermath of emotionally abusive relationships, and doesn’t really pull any punches. McFarlane handles it beautifully.
The love interest was absolutely crush worthy—a hot, supportive journalist with his own complicated back story. I will say, though, that the love story is this book is more peripheral than in the rest of McFarlane’s catalogue. I didn’t mind that, though, because the story was so good.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me a copy to read and review!

Enjoyable, emotional read.
Harriet and Cal house share,
both are hiding away from their past.
This touches on nothing is as it seems and don’t judge a book by its cover.
A Jilted bride, an unexpected engagement, a slimy relative, narcissistic ex, a ruined career and having to face up to the past are some of the events included in this unputdownable novel.

I have read and enjoyed this author before and was not disappointed. Great story line, great cast of characters and an enjoyable story. Would recommend

Fabulous book! Love her writing, love the characters, love the storyline! Can’t fault it, I was hooked and completely absorbed into it :)

I LOVE Mhairi McFarlane - Mad About You is a brilliant feel good 5-star read.
The perfect romcom this summer.

Loved this book. Love anything Mhari and i have read everything she has written and she never disappoints.
Love that her characters are well rounded and flawed and developed outside of the relationships they develop.

Absolutely brilliant. This made me laugh out loud, sob uncontrollably and even audibly gasp on occasion. I've already added it to my "to buy" gift list for my mum. It was honestly a fantastic book. There is so much that happens in this story and there are some very strong, very compelling and well written characters within. There are also some very villainous individuals. Sensitive storylines are dealt with quite wonderfully, the true importance of love & friendship is illustrated perfectly and for the most part, faith in others was masterfully restored.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the characters were really well developed and it really made me laugh out loud in parts. Definitely would be an author I would read more of. She’s so talented.

Loved all of Mairis books so far. Enjoyable reads I do not want to put down. Always nervous reading a new one incase I don't like it. This was better than I ever thought it would ve. Such a great read. Thank you

I really loved Mad about You and how it focused more on the story, so the romance took the back seat. I loved the interactions between Harriet and Cal. The fact that this has a photography aspect makes me love it even more.
I will definitely be reading more from Mhairi McFarlane.

I always love Mhairi McFarlane and her writing. Her plots are always authentic and real and her characters are so relatable. This book was no exception. If anything, I actually felt this book was a little more relatable and ‘chick lit’ than some of her more recent books, yet it still effectively ran through the whole gamut of human emotions, exploring each character fully. I love how much you can immerse yourself into McFarlane’d writing!

This story felt a bit all over the place at first and I had some trouble getting in to it. Harriet a wedding photographer left her boyfriend after a surprise proposal and moves in with a stranger/runaway groom.
Mhairi McFarlane does a good job balancing tough subjects with light hearted humour and romance.

A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable and varied, the plot is one that is engaging and medium paced. I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.

I love Mhairi McFarlane’s writing. I loved seeing the character development between Cal and Harriet, it made for a really interesting read, one that I really struggled to put down.
I really enjoyed this book and recommend not only this one, but all of McFarlane’s previous work.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

For a romance to work for me it has to have characters I can really believe in and Mhairi always delivers. A sparkling heroine and a plausible plot make for a wholly enjoyable read

I've always heard good things about McFarlane and this was a beautiful introduction to her work. It was painful to read at times but I really appreciated the authenticity of the characters and their struggles and thought processes.

Full disclosure - I love all things Mhairi McFarlane. Needless to say I loved this book. Like all her others, this is a superb combination of sad and laugh out loud funny. Loved every minute of it - if you haven't, go and read it!

This is very well written but I felt I was reading two different books. I thought I was reading a feel-good rom-com but it ended up being a hugely painful exploration of spousal abuse (the mental, controlling, ghosting kind) which almost no one else in the heroine’s life believed.
I thought the breakup of the first romance with Jon was funny but then that story went through several stages before we realised that the heroine hadn’t been entirely innocent in her dealings with him. We then had the story about the abusive earlier boyfriend Stuart and this was the one I found deeply uncomfortable, although very well written.
I thought the author handled the serious story incredibly well but it was not what I wanted to read. If you want a serious, well written analysis of spousal abuse and the fabulous way the heroine and two other victims deal with the abuser - then this is for you.
If, like me, you thought you were getting a light hearted, emotionally satisfying romance - then I’m afraid this is rather disappointing. I wanted far more about Harriet and Cal.
