I have read a couple of Mhairi’s books and really enjoyed them This was no exception. A lovely romantic feel good novel that I read in 2 sittings. I tried to eek it out for longer but I just couldn’t. I loved the main characters but I wish there had been a bit more romantic liaisons between Cal & Harriet. This book was a joy to read and I can’t wait for her next book. Read it you won’t regret it!!

You know whenever you pick up one of Mhairi’s books that you’re in for a treat and Mad About You is no exception. She has come to be one of the most enjoyable writers of romantic fiction and I for one am already eagerly awaiting her next book!

In the meantime I thoroughly recommend that you spend time with Harriet, a heroine that you really can empathise with unlike a lot of books these days where it’s difficult to be invested in what happens along the way.

This book is gorgeous, one of my favourites of hers. Again she seamlessly blends, wit, warmth and romance with something far deeper. McFarlane's novels always have a lot to say about what it is to be a woman in the world, and the ways that life can leave its mark on you for good or ill, here she navigates relationship abuse and coercive control with an empathy that will make your heart ache and grow two sizes bigger as you read.

I love all of Mhairi's books, and this one was no different. I don't have much to say apart from the fact that I am already looking forward to the next, and it's devastating that I'll likely have to wait over a year for it!

Is there ever a more perfect day than the one where you get a new Mhairi McFarlane into your hands? I absolutely demolished this yesterday evening and loved every minute. Indeed I am slightly mad at myself for not saving it to read more slowly, but I couldn't. Lovely characters, brilliant story, moving journeys, this book had it all. Loved it!

As usual, Mhairi’s writing is a joy to behold. The dialogue is fantastic, with lots of wit, humour and conversations you can imagine having with your friends IRL. Speaking of friends, friendship and female solidarity are huge themes in this book, along with standing up for yourself and knowing it’s never too late to make the choice you want.

Although it’s not the main focus, the book does have romance in it and I love love love the romance in it (it is slow burn and closed door). Mhairi has a way of writing characters that have your whole heart in a very short amount of time. They felt real, realistic and well thought through.

I’d really recommend this book - along with all of her other books!!

I would approach with caution if themes of emotional and domestic abuse are difficult for you to read. Other content warnings include death of a parent, infidelity, domestic violence and cancer.

CW: gaslighting, emotional abuse

Harriet Hatley is a wedding photographer, who isn't interested in ever getting married herself. Her boyfriend unexpectedly proposes to her at a family dinner, leaving her in an awkward position. She says yes as she feels like she has no choice given the situation and then later decides to leave him as she realises that she doesn't really love him. Harriet moves into a house-share with a man named Cal, an agreement that both of them agree to before actually meeting in person. To both of their surprise, they discover that they know each other: Harriet was Cal's wedding photographer...at a wedding in which he disappeared and left the bride on her special day. Can she really live with someone who would do something like that?

I enjoyed reading this book, though it took a direction I wasn't expecting it to take at all (based from just reading the blurb). It had a lot of charm and humour, as well as some great side-characters, despite also tackling some deeper issues surrounding emotional abuse and gaslighting. I loved Harriet's character - she felt really real and relatable. I would have liked the ending to be a little longer so that we could have seen a bit more about how everything panned out for all the characters, but overall, it was a great read.

4.5 stars
This was one of those books that was hard to put down, I was that invested in the characters, plot and how it would play out until the end.
There were so many great lines in this, many of which made me laugh out loud.
And the story of what was going on in Harriet's life was really interesting.
To be totally honest, there were a few too many coincidences for me.
Like some of Mhairi's other books, this isn't all about the romance but I never got the 'they hate each other to now they love each other' that is kind of highlighted on the cover and in the blurb.
The ending also felt a bit rushed, particularly when it came to Harriet and Cal getting together.
When they were professing their love to one another that also felt a bit rushed given that they both definitely liked each other and were falling for one another. But both declaring their love felt like a bit of a leap for both characters.
I adored Lorna and how well fleshed out each of the characters were in this.
I would have loved a bit more resolution at the end. How did things work out for some of the other characters two years down the line, for example. But I really enjoyed Mad about You and will be recommending it to everyone.
This is the fourth Mhairi McFarlane book that I've read and out of the four, this is my second favourite (it would have taken something particularly special to beat the 5 star Last Night for me).
I can't wait to read what she does next and Mhairi is easily one of those authors that I will read any new release from with such excited anticipation.

This book is so good! It's heartwarming, it makes you angry, makes you laugh, makes you cry!

It's a bit slow to start but you will not regret sticking with it! Highly recommend!

I must first off apologise for my lack of dignity but I sit here writing this review in a mess of snotty tears with a stupid grin on my face. It was that kind of a book.

Now forewarning is key so I must admit that I have read every single one of Mhairi McFarlane's previous novels and adored them but' Mad about you' may just be my favourite yet. I literally inhaled this book and I am unnaturally devastated that I've finished it

I would love to tell you more about the plot but there are quite a few twists and turns so I won't spoil it. Suffice it to say that there is an incredible, ballsy heroine named Harriet who made my heart sing, a best friend who champions and supports our heroine through every challenge and a stunner of a leading man. I cried, I laughed, I am now bereft.

Buy this book!!! You will not regret it. I just wish I could give it ten stars out of five.

Absolutely the best book from Mhairi to date. It covers a lot of serious stuff with sensitivity and humour and is utterly compelling reading. I loved the main characters and really didn’t want it to be over.

Oh my, I loved this!!! It’s not often that you are glued to your seat to read a book and putting it down wasn’t an option, but this one did that and had me up to 1am to finish.

Mhairi McFarlane is the rom com queen, giving us a book that has it all. That’s laugh out loud funny as well as emotional, yet hopeful. You meet a whole group of characters, each as detailed and fleshed out as each other, so you just want to stay with them and keep on reading about their life’s.

This is going to be the rom com of 2022 - and excited for all the readers to get their hands on this in April!

Highly recommended.

Four and a half stars.

Okay, its true I've morphed into a nicer version of myself.

Harriet is a wedding photographer, she' sort-of happy with her boyfriend Jon until he uses a weekend away with his family to celebrate his parents' 40th wedding anniversary to propose to her in front of his entire family. Harriet realises enough is enough, she's mistaken comfort and gratitude for love for too long, any longer and she'll end up married to a man she doesn't love.

But moving out of Jon's house forces Harriet to confront some uncomfortable home truths, about herself, about past relationships and about friendship. Not least because Harriet finds herself sharing a house with a groom who walked away from his wedding on the wedding day; how can Harriet like a man who could behave so appallingly?

I loved this, Mhiari McFarlane has outdone herself, creating a wonderful, flawed character like Harriet who finally finds the strength to what is right, and what is true.

I received a free copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
