Unfortunately this one was a real miss for me. I loved the 80's vibe but in all honesty I just disliked every single character which meant I didn't actually care about any of them.
Not my cup of tea at all. Very repetitive. Characters are self absorbed , couldn't relate to them . I read the first book and thought it was ok but the sequel was disappointing.
Very early 80s feel. A cross between Dynasty and El Dorado with a twist of all soap operas you have ever seen. Jackie Collins could not of done better. It want my genre but I enjoyed it as a one off. If this is your genre I think it’s a good example!
This book might only fulfill the already familiar with the series crowd as I found it completely unrelatable. It has all the elements of a good Jackie Collins novel but the characters are old enough to be grandparents and the different plots are absolutely ludicrous. Were the protagonists a bit more age appropriate in relation to the intrigue I might have found some redeeming points, unfortunately it is not the case.
I think I enjoyed this one as much as Ruthless Women! Like the idea of them all together on a English Island. When women get together there will alway me mystery and scandal!
Omg omg omg!
Wowwee! Wowser!
Utterly speechless... but please tell me there will be another book as I want and need more.
Melanie Blake is just amazing and this latest book, which starts a short time after the end of Ruthless Women seems to have stepped it up another notch.
I literally couldn't get enough of this story and was hooked on every last word.
There are so many twists and turns and for a brief moment I thought there would be very different ending, but instead just wow.
Revenge, guilt, powerful strong women, power plays, schemes, sex and a whole lot more has turned this book from a story about a soap, to a set of storyline that would certainly work well on a big or smaller screen.
This is a book and series that needs to be adapted to other forms of entertainment as it is that amazing.
Melanie Blake is now easily one of my favourite, must read everything she writes authors, and has yet again produced on simply spectacular book.
Thank you to HarperCollins and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This was not for me. I did not like the style, it was very superficial and I thought the writing was poor. I did not engage at all. I continued to read to see how the story panned out. It was about a soap opera and it threw everything in in true soap opera style.
A great book on revenge and greed…. On a beautiful island off the English coast, four TV actresses gather.
Their fifth member is missing – and only they know why she was killed.
As the secret between them threatens to come out, tensions on set run high.
The women are determined that the show must go on – no matter what it costs.
But one of them is on the edge of telling the truth – and no show in the world could survive this scandal… Grab yourself a copy!
Falcon Bay has been filmed on a private Island in Jersey for 40 years.
The women of the show all close together when their jobs are at risk.
With secrets aplenty, it’s not long before there are cracks.
This book was like watching a soap opera! So much going on, I had to keep turning the pages, it was so exciting! Twists and turns throughout with a superb ending.
My only concern is that the book needs a thorough read through before publication date. There are a lot of errors throughout.
My thanks to Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
The most intense thriller i have read in a while. Very gripping, edge of your seat stuff. Perfect holiday read when you just want to escape.
This is not my usual genre and I have not read the first book Ruthless Women so I felt somewhat at a disadvantage. The writing was mediocre and I found it very hard to engage in the story. As a reader I do not want the plot to be continuously being explained to me and found it very annoying. This is just my opinion and I am sure other readers will enjoy it more just not for me.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
I just could not get into this novel. I did enjoy the plot idea. But there was far too many characters and usually novels have an introduction about the characters as you introduce them. Instead, this novel wrote a list of characters with a small description about each of them there was like 10+ characters and then the novel’s story just starts as if you already know about the characters. That is not how a successful novel where the reader - any sort of reader can follow.
Actual rating 4.5
Having read the first book in this series I couldn’t wait for the sequel. I was not disappointed!
The girls are back with a bang as the aftermath of book 1 follows them no matter how hard they try to move on. I honestly didn’t see the twist coming and was blown away by it. I still have so many questions needing answered and hope there is a third book in the series.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing a copy.
This is a story about a fictional tv soap, it’s cast, crew and peripheral workers. A follow up to Ruthless Women, which I have not read.
I’m sorry to say this was a DNF for me. Poorly written and patronising, it was not a book I could spend time on. The pomposity of dropping designer label names around like confetti is just filler, and added nothing to the book. Totally banal characters and a mad, but not on a good way, plot.
Thank you NetGalley.
From start to finish, Guilty Wives takes you on a dramatic ride. With a blood-stained stiletto for a book cover, it promises to be an addictive and wickedly entertaining read. Four TV actresses with a secret between them and a few more as book progresses. Accidents will happen. But are they accidents?
I can see this series being one of those — And Then There Were Two — stories. Their fifth member is missing. Who’s next? What drives Madeline Kane? Falcon Bay certainly has a history and these four actresses are a force to be reckoned with. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate relating to the age-group in this book. It’s refreshing to find older faces in glamourous places. For those of us teetering on the downside of life’s slope, this book confirms how entertaining and powerful mature women are. It says a lot for the author.
This book has secrets galore, beautiful gowns, high tension, terrible killings — some of which could be construed as accidents — and a host of well-researched detail that make it a substantial read. Thrust into the world of television and politics, these women are a lively, hedonistic bunch. But fame and fortune has a way of corrupting even the best of them, and I think that’s what kept me reading.
The ending was definitely one I didn’t see coming. Although I’m not usually into soap operas, this book has a tendency to engross its readers. You have to know what happens next. So, if you’re looking for drama and suspense, mixed with a little spice, then this is the book for you. Think Desperate House Wives meets Sex and the City. It’s a riotous read.
Guilty Pleasure…
The fabulous follow up to Ruthless Women, Guilty Women arrives with a bang. A gathering on an island off the English coast, four beautiful and glamorous women assemble. The fifth is missing and only they know why. As tensions escalate and emotions run high, these woman know only that the show must go on. Whatever the cost. What scandal is about to emerge and will anyone come out unscathed? Or is every single one of them as guilty as hell. With a wonderfully crafted cast and a pacy, breathless storyline this is a definite guilty pleasure that has it all.
Wow! Guilty women is a great follow up novel and a very good book to read!
I enjoyed this story a lot and am looking forward to what else the author will create
This was a rollercoaster of a book, set in the seemingly benign surroundings of a soap opera set in Jersey.
We are introduced to a group of leading ladies who have been friends for many, many years, in some cases, decades.
The women are all banded together, protecting a secret that could potentially see them all lose their jobs and careers.
This is a novel filled with friendship, secrets and betrayal. It seems until near the final pages of the book that everything will work out and each of the women will get their happy ever after.
However this does not happen, in the most awful way, their secret is revealed and their lives are due to change forever, just not in the way they had hoped for.
I did not realise this was a sequel. I read it anyway and it wasn’t great to be honest. The characters were cringeworthy and the plot lacked depth. I was not impressed overall.
Not my cup of tea really. Was well written but not a book I would go for generally.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC
