I really enjoyed this engaging read.
Sarah and Jonathan both work at the same restaurant, but they could really use some extra money to settle their debts. So, when Sarah spots an advert looking for a nanny, it seems like the perfect solution. Except this is no ordinary Nanny position. 4 year old Patty died twenty years ago, but in Collette's mind, she is very much alive. As if this wasn't enough to cope with, Sarah has to manage Collette's dramatic outbursts and erratic behaviour.
Sarah and Collette are both strong characters and I was rooting for them both. The premise of the novel is unique and I really didn't expect the reveal at the end. The author has a lovely sty;e of writing and made each scene come alive with attention to detail- I could really picture the dollhouse, the carousel and the expensive apartment.
I would definitely recommend this read and look forward to reading morEwork by this author.
Thanks indeed to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC,

Nanny Needed by Georgina Cross Narrated by: Emma Ashton was a brilliant psychological thriller, However, I did not like the narrator: Emma Ashton, she did not give this book justice. I stopped listening to her after 3 chapters and ended up reading the book and it was brilliant especially as I wanted to find out what happened. Not all the characters are likeable but they all played their parts well.
I recommend this book but sadly not the audiobook.
Big thank you to NetGalley and especially to Avon for that much appreciated arc in return for an honest review

A young woman takes a job as a nanny for an impossibly wealthy family, thinking she's found her entre into a better life--only to discover instead she's walked into a world of deception and dark secrets.
This was everything you need for a thriller and crime story. It is not as black and white as you first think and like most typical thrillers, is full of twists. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
3.5/5.

I found this a somewhat odd book, not quite sure what to make of the subject matter. It was a bit far-fetched, but on the other hand, who knows? Maybe this sort of thing really is possible, after all, these days, anything goes. Not my favourite but certainly not my least favourite either. 3 stars.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and author for my ARC.

Now I like a good far fetched plot as much as the next person, but Nanny needed was just one crazy step too far.
It did hook me in a little - but then I am a sucker for the crazy rich - but it was a bit predictable in places.
Not bad, but not my fave.

Sarah and her fiance Jonathan have moved to New York, but are struggling financially, with both of them waiting tables in the same restaurant to an unsympathetic boss. Sarah has a lot of debt to pay following her aunt's illness and death - this is the aunt who brought her up after her parents had died in a car crash. When Sarah sees a flyer for a nanny she tries to cover both jobs, but the "Bird" family have other ideas. The pay is more than generous and there is only supposedly one child living in a luxurious apartment. The mother is a b it of a scatter brain character, with the step son acting strange and the other staff even stranger. Mr Bird senior is elusive to start and very harp in his manner. Things go wrong at the very start of her new employment, but what's the mystery,?? I found the book a bit slow to start and kind of guessed the outcome, but I did enjoy the bizarre situations along Sarah's journey. Although I didn't see the relevance of what happened to sarah's fiance.
Maybe this book was a bit too far fetched and became rather unbelievable, but it was a decent read.

Sarah and her fiance Jonathan live in New York, and are struggling to make ends meet as Sarah has many bills to pay following her aunt's illness and death - the aunt who brought her up. They work in a restaurant, but Sarah sees an advertisement for a nanny and thinks she can cover the two jobs. What can go wrong?
Three quarters of the book was very good, keeping me on the edge of my seat as the psychological thriller unwound. However, the final quarter really let it down, as it stretched belief too far and became ridiculous. There was so many holes in the story that the reader could not be expected to accept it as realistic or believable.
So a disappointing ending to what had been a pretty good read.

If you like books about bats*it crazy rich people then this is the book for you. It was glaringly obvious from the start, but it was still fun to get there and then continue to sit back as the bizarro just kept on giving. Although I must admit I didn't see one of the twists coming towards the end.

I really enjoyed this psychological thriller, I was gripped really quickly and flew through it as I needed to know what happened.
Not all the characters are likeable but I feel like it was written to be that way.
Will look out for other books by this author.

I can’t wait to read more by Georgina. This was intriguing, engaging and thrilling. The plot was cleverly unravelled as the story progressed.

Sarah Larsen needs money for her debts and her job as a waitress at a restaurant called Hearth doesn't provide enough income. She is hoping to marry Johnathan who also works there. She spots an advertisement for a nanny at 101 West 78th Street, New York and applies. The wealthy Bird family asks that Sarah is discreet about their affairs and so she signs a strict confidentiality clause. It soon becomes clear to Sarah that she has bitten off more than she can chew.
Wow, what a thriller! The tension rapidly rises with every chapter and the characters are believable. The tale is delightfully claustrophobic and It was hard to figure out the truth from the lies. A fascinating, sinister and disturbing novel.
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Avon Books UK via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

I really enjoyed this one and read it quickly.
The story immediately pulled me in and I was intrigued to discover the secrets behind the Bird family after Sarah applies for a position as their nanny. The first thought I had about the whole nannying set up turned out to be wrong, which is always good! I like to be surprised!
The characters were well described although not all likeable, but I did empathise with Sarah and Jonathan, both of whom seemed genuine and good hearted.
I enjoyed the vivid descriptions of New York and the plush penthouse apartment. The story came with plenty of shocks, twists and turns and a few red herrings along the way. And although you do have to suspend disbelief somewhat by the end, the book's conclusion is wrapped up surprisingly and satisfyingly.
Recommended for those who enjoy a good solid, psychological thriller.

This was a banger of a book! I was hooked into the story right from the start as the first chapter actually takes us near to the end of the storyline and then works back in time, a concept which I actually really like as you are thrown straight into the action. This was a proper psychological thriller, it gets you thinking all sorts and parts were so creepy I felt chills running through me. The twists and turns were incredible, I did not see them coming at all. Amazing book - would definitely recommend!

Too far fetched for me to get beyond 20% so sorry I did try but not for me. If I found any positive it would be that it’s a very quick read, well it was up to the fifth of the book I read.
DNF.

A great creepy shocker of a book. If you are after a weird creepy book then this is the book for you.
Sarah is living with her fiancé but struggling to make enough money to pay her debts as well as save up for their wedding. She sees a flyer for a dream job - a nanny to the Bird family in an upmarket area of the city, in a penthouse. Would could be better ?
Sarah applies for the job and despite no experience she is thrilled to be chosen as the nanny. But not everything with the Bird family is as it seems and soon Sarah is realising that this maybe isn’t the dream job she thought it was.
This really is a creepy thriller with some great characters. It will have you hooked from the very start as we delve into the Bird family’s present and past. If you love creepy thrillers then this is definitely one for you.
Thank you to Avon Books UK and NetGalley for a digital copy of this book.

All aboard the crazy train and the ticket is the price is your belief!
Not in a bad way, though - this was a fun book to read, but I did feel like I had to suspend my belief quite a lot. Still an enjoyable read.
I sort of guessed where this might be going quite early on in the book, with some hints dropped here and there.
For a thriller, I found the pacing a little off, and last one point it gave me a straight on whiplash!
If you do not want a book to take too seriously, this is your lucky day!
Thank you, NetGalley for the ARC!

I struggled to get into this the entire time and did not finish. I'm definitely going to re-read this in a few months as I believe the struggle was down to me and not the book.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this novel for an honest review. It has been published in April 2022.
I enjoyed very much reading "Nanny Needed" by Georgina Cross... up until the far-fetched, preposterous ending.
Am I supposed to believe that such a wealthy family as the Birds wouldn't hire a funeral home's services when their beloved only daughter allegedly died? And if they did (of course they would!), how did the deception work exactly? Were the morticians in on it as well? Were they bribed by the doctor? Implausible! Were they themselves tricked by the doctor? Impossible! They would know that the casket was empty.
Also, if the family doctor and the nanny had reason to believe that Patty was being poisoned, why would they automatically suspect her adoring mother was doing it? This doesn't make any sense!
More importantly, why would they decide the best way to solve this problem was to fake the little girl's death, kidnap her and take her away from the only family she had ever known, incidentally leaving her older brother behind, in the care of a woman they considered a dangerous would-be child-murderer? This really irked me! Instead of going to the police with their suspicions and making sure both children were safeguarded, they only took one of them away and completely washed their hands of the other one... why? Because he was less cute than his younger sister? By not going to the police, they also put all other children Collette might potentially have had later at risk: they thought she was up to murdering her own daughter and basically did nothing to stop her! How were they to know that Collette wouldn't go on to have more children and slowly poison them as well, like they thought she was doing with Patty?
Finally, I really didn't appreciate how the real perpetrator was revealed: by her own admission, when she spontaneously confessed all her crimes, for no other reason than wanting to "take the credit" for her diabolical plan. Apparently, boasting about getting away with murder takes precedence on... actually getting away with it (!) I mean, seriously? Couldn't the author make the big reveal play out in any other less stupid way than the villain just plain come out and spontaneously admit all her evil deeds just because?
This ridiculous, nonsensical ending annoys me all the more because I had been enjoying the novel so far.

Well written thriller with plenty of twists and turns. Certainly didn’t see the end coming. Strong characters, moves at a fast pace. A thoroughly enjoyable read.

Sarah is in a huge amount of debt living with her fiancé Jonathan in a small flat and they are both struggling to make ends meet. One morning Sarah spots a flyer advertising a job for a nanny to look after the birds 4 year old daughter Patty.
Sarah applies for the job even though she has no experience but soon clicks with Colette and is delighted when she is offered the job.
Once Sarah starts her new job it soon becomes clear that the bird family are hiding a secret and all is not as it seems with this family and Sarah decides she’s going to try and cut all ties with this family however when tragedy strikes Sarah finds herself needing the bird family more than she would have thought was possible.
This thriller was slightly slow getting started but once it got going it was unlike anything I’d ever read and was not at all what I’d expected and as for that twist at the end all I can say is wow.
Thank you to NetGalley the publishers and the author for an advance copy of this book in exchange for this review
