Enjoyed the multiple narrators for this novel and the podcast elements. Gripping storyline. Thanks for the opportunity to listen.
Oooh I did love this audiobook! I loved the narrators and the actors voicing the characters as part of the podcast and the bonus chapter as part of the audiobook! Just loved it!
I thought the cat and mouse twist in this refreshing and so intense! It really was such a top book for me! I loved playing detective and being right and then when that reveal came early on I just couldn't fathom how it would all end up.
It didn't help as we had the podcast playing and they were live and investigating the scene of the crime and you had no idea who or what was going on! I thought it was brilliant!! Jase was most definitely my favourite!
I was hooked on this and blitzed it over a couple of days whilst I was working. I just needed to know what was going to happen next. I was just shocked and appalled by so many people!
I would really love for this to become a series! I loved the crime podcast and there was a hint at another unsolved crime they were going to do! Please!!!
I will be adding Sam to my list of authors to watch because I was just enthralled by it all!
This book was one of those books that really goes step by step, for the most part, in building up a story that brings everything to a boiling point by the end.
Isla McKenzie is mugged brutally and her boyfriend, Zach, steps up and is there for her completely. He even moves into her home with her in order to take care of her when she finds that she can hardly leave the house after the attack.
However, soon enough something happens. Something that leads her to believe that someone out there is out to get her.
Isla and Zach now are faced with trying to figure out all the truths out there before it’s too late or until all the secrets they are keeping from each other are figured out.
I can’t really tell you too much of relevance with the story and plot because you sort of go from one step to another and I’m afraid I’d ruin it for you.
This has an interesting story line that, even though it might not be too hard to figure some bits out, does have a few little surprises here and there.
This is a good story that goes by quickly. It’s worth reading!
If you get the chance to listen to the audio book, I highly recommend it. The narrator is fantastic!
I had a few download issues with the book and by the time it was sorted, the file had unfortunately been achieved.
Isla is suffering from PTSD after her mugging. After her boyfriend Zach moves in to look after her, she is still haunted by suspicion and doubt. Is someone out to get her? Is the culprit unknown, or is danger closer to home? Could Isla just paranoid and her over active imagination just be playing tricks on her? This is a fast paced page turner I could not put down! I enjoyed the podcast element included in the story. Thank you Harper Collins UK Audio Books and NetGalley for my audiobook.
A lovely easy read about a young woman trying to figure out who is behind the attack that almost left her dead. Could it be a stranger or her own boyfriend? I really enjoyed this book, its a very easy read with no major surprises. Loved the addition of the true crime podcast - very current. Would recommend if you are looking for a quick read that will keep you entertained.
This was good! I listen to audiobooks in bed and on long journeys. This one was slow to start but once into it was good! Narrator was a good voice aswell
After having enjoyed books by this author before I was really looking forward to reading this one, however, I really struggled to get into the book as I found it really slow and not that gripping for the first third of the book and then the involvement of the ‘amateur crime team’ just seemed really unbelievable to me .
The narrators were excellent and made the book easy to listen to
Isla is attacked on her way home after a party and suffers concussion and a broken wrist and now has retrograde amnesia and PTSD and is scared to leave her home. So her boyfriend, Zach, who is the son of her boss, moves in with her to comfort and protect She spends her days listening to true crime podcasts and tv shows.
The book started fairly slowly but the pace picked up in the second half. The storyline was interesting with plenty of twists and little clues along the way, and I loved the way that the Christie's Crime Addicts podcast featured. I felt this part worked really well as an audiobook.
The muti-cast narration by Georgia Maguire, John Hopkins, Elliot Fitzpatrick, Beth Chalmers and Russell Bentley was excellent.
When Isla is mugged and left unconscious after leaving a party at a colleague's house, her boyfriend, Zach moves in with her to help. When Zach and seemingly everybody around her including her neighbours starts acting suspicious, she approaches the presenters of her favourite podcast, Christie's Crime Addicts to help her figure out who attacked her. This book combines two of my favourite things - crime thrillers and true crime podcasts, I love that there are actual episodes of the (fictional) podcast! There are so many suspicious goings on in this story, tense moments and smoke screens, it kept me guessing right until the end. The audiobook narration is fantastic!
True crime podcast meets thriller in this novel. The audiobook format is perfect with episodes of Christie's Crime Addicts intermingled between the chapters of the book - plus a bonus episode at the end that is only included in the audiobook version.
After Isla was mugged, she barely leaves her house. Her doting boyfriend, Zach, has moved in with her to help. But things are not as they seem - as we learn from the very first podcast episode.
I really enjoyed listening to the Couple on Maple Drive. The group of narrators were really good and made the book easy to listen to and get engrossed in. The story itself was good, the characters were relatable and easy to like. I enjoyed the suspense of the 'who done it' to begin with, though feel it fell a bit short towards the end when the ending became obvious too early in my opinion. I still really enjoyed listening to the book though!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my advanced listening copy in return for my review.
The Couple on Maple Drive by Sam Carrington is the third book I have read by this author and it was another brilliant book. This new book was narrated several people and they worked really well together. The narrators are:: Georgia Maguire, John Hopkins, Elliot Fitzpatrick, Beth Chalmers, Russell Bentley. The Length:is 9 hrs and 20 mins.
Its full of twists and turns throughout that will have you gripped! I listened to this in 2 sittings
This book had me gripped from the very beginning till the end. I loved it. 5 star read and audio book from me!
I highly recommend this audio
Big Thank you to Harper Collins Audio UK, Avon and Netgalley for my advanced listening copy
Okay, my friends surely know I love Georgia Maguire as a narrator, she is the reason I started listening to audiobooks in the first place.
I couldn't wait to get listening to this audiobook! We are taken straight into the story, a woman is attacked on her way home and she has amnesia but is slowly recovering her memory of what happened.
There was suspense at the start, of who her attacker was and why, helped hugely by the addition of a true crime podcast that gave the reader clues along the way. I loved these parts, as I am a big true crime fan and I think it really added an extra layer of interest to the story.
The story did wane a little, and the ending was a little anticlimactic for me. The attacker was revealed too early in my opinion and really slowed the pace down.
Also, I am a little baffled by the title. I don't think it really fit with the story I was reading!
Nancy Drew, Agatha Christie, the list goes on. This book was such An easy read and although very predictable, I would whole heartedly recommend it
I received an audiophile for The Couple On Maple Drive and am voluntarily leaving an honest revjew.
This is my first Sam Carrington book and it delivered. Big time. The moment I started listening to the book, I was hooked. The chapters weren't too lengthy, the narration crisp and commanding while also keeping one on their toes. The suspense that kept building up as the plot progressed and confusion thickened, had me on edge at times.
Isla came across as too trustworthy at times but she also had a sensible and intuitive streak that eventually led to unpleasant consequences. I may be biased about books set in the UK but this one was a treat to listen to and made me nostalgic. I quite liked the fact that the book also had crime podcasts incorporated into the story and was well handled.
I finished listening to this book fairly quickly, despite it being a bit long. there were a few surprises in the plot towards the ending.q
Really enjoyed this audio book
Isla is leaves her promotion celebrations early and find herself the victim of a violent attack
As the memories come back to her and she starts to remember things Isla begins to suspect that her attack wasn’t a random incident and that her aggressor isn’t a stranger.
Isla a keen true crime fan and is sure that if she can remember what happened before she was attacked she can work out who did this to her …
But will her investigation put her in danger
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of the Audio Book in exchange for my honest review.
Isla is attacked on her way home from a work party. She becomes a recluse and her boyfriend Zach moves in to take care of her. She does not remember the attack, and this really bothers and scares her. As the story progresses, she reaches out to members of a true crime team who do podcasts. With their help, she slowly begins to remember what happened as well as to suspect who the attacker was and perhaps the reason behind it.
This is my first Sam Carrington book and although I enjoyed it, I didn't love it. The main reason I knocked this down a bit was Isla, the main character. As she began to figure things out, she made some pretty bad decisions. For an independent woman, she was treated pretty badly by her boyfriend and I just wanted to give her a good shake. Neither Zach or Nicki (Isla's BFF) were very likable and I definitely did not like them at all. I enjoyed the addition of the podcasts, it gave the audiobook a different feel. The plot was interesting and although it is pretty obvious who attacked Isla, the reason behind it and the character flaws and issues were doled out in a satisfactory way. Overall, this was an enjoyable story with a good ending. The audiobook was narrated with a cast consisting of Georgia Maguire, John Hopkins, Elliot Fitzpatrick, Beth Chalmers, and Russell Bentley. It definitely made the audiobook bring this story to life with individual voices, lots of expression and great pacing. I definitely believe the narration added to my enjoyment of this story.
A really enjoyable book. Although I enjoyed the book, I did feel that Isla put herself in unnecessary, precarious situations and failed to call the police. The book was well read and added to the enjoyment.
This is an honest review of a complementary ARC.
I listened to the audio version of this book via Netgalley.
Unfortunately for me it was too predictable, very slow and the main character was difficult to like let alone care about
It also bugged me that despite growing up in Scotland and moving to Devon only 5 years ago the narrator gave the main character a thick Cornish accent but her mother had a Scottish accent.
This just didn't work for me and I was actually relieved to finish the book.
