An emotional, romantic and ultimately uplifting read. Jessica always touches my heart with her sensitive handling of difficult subjects. The gorgeous community she has built around Hedgehog Hollow is one I hope to visit again and again.

It was an absolute delight to be back within the gorgeous and scenic surroundings of Hedgehog Hollow, filled with strong personalities and heart-warming moments. A Wedding at Hedgehog Hollow was a story of second chances and happy endings, but it definitely didn’t come without the drama still. What would Hedgehog Hollow be without the drama though? We’re one step closer to a happily ever after for all of our beloved characters and I’m begging Jessica to take it easy on us, we’ve gone through so much already! Roll on book five!

This in my second book by Jessica Redland and what can I say except WOW! I absolutely adore this authors ability to create realistic characters that come with flaws. Jessica writes in a style that makes you feel part of the storylines. She introduces scenes with care, even the harder plotlines are done with a sincerity that you can really believe in. This genre often is all hearts and flowers, money no object and full of beautiful people. Not so for Jessica Redland. Her characters are 100% believable, they have issues and problems that resonate with the reader. As you read you feel an empathy with the characters. Sam the main protagonist is a wonderfully caring person who truly believes “there is good in everyone” She does not come without her own problems and has severe PTSD, which is dealt with in a sensitive manner.

Phoebe is a different character altogether or at least I thought so, but as her character grows I realised she is actually very like Sam. She too is looking out for her loved ones, never puts herself first and indeed endures suffering beyond belief to protect her half sister Darcie and her beloved friend Rosemary.

I’m not going to waffle on as this book speaks for itself. If you enjoy women’s fiction with some romance but more realistic stories and superb characters that you will just fall in love with then pop out and grab this books. Oh and of course it’s full of lovely hedgehogs that arrive at Hedgehog Hollow to be nurtured back to health by Sam. You’ll even learn a bit Hedgehogs along the way. A proper 5 star read for me. I LOVED IT!

This is a lovely optimistic story which I found difficult to put down once I had started it. It is part of a series but you can easily read it as a stand alone book. I look forward to reading more by Jessica Redland.

No, my review title does not mean I have gone mad! Those are merely just a few hedgehogs we meet in this next book at Hedgehog Hollow. This is a series I have grown to love and I cannot wait for the fifth book to be released (I think I said that at my last review too!).

Out of all the books in the series, I think this is the darkest but equally featuring the most hedgehogs. I love the anticipation of what the new residents will be called when they arrive at Hedgehog Hollow and I think this adds to the fun element of the story. After all, the plot centres on these little creatures and this is what brings Samantha and all her friends and family together. Fans of the previous books will not be disappointed with the christenings in this story.

Whilst I describe this novel as being ‘the darkest’, it is no way a criticism of the story. Book four, and you start to wonder how a writer can keep the plot fresh and original. I think this is why Redland moves away from centring so much on Samantha and instead on Phoebe, a volunteer accountant at Hedgehog Hollow. Her character is surrounded by the infamous Grimes family who readers of previous books will recognise a Samantha’s nemesis. The story starts immediately where it finished from the last novel, so it is definitely a good idea to have read the predecessors before commencing this one.

Phoebe’s story is a saddening, emotional one, one of the saddest stories by far in the series. The way her circumstances are portrayed is a heart-puller and one that I think is uncomfortably more common than we necessarily realise. I was surprised at the direction that Redland took this story but I think this made the novel all the more interesting and varied as a result. Indeed, the development of Phoebe’s narrative reflects Redland’s talents as a writer and, despite it being a rather sobering story, made me even more engrossed with the book. I think it was because I knew that Samantha and Hedgehog Hollow would provide the sanctuary it has offered to so many in the past.

The farmhouse at Hedgehog Hollow remains fit to bursting. I love the energy and support that Samantha has around her and I think the farmhouse is symbolic of the happy endings that readers have found in the past books. It is such an idyllic setting and completely fitting that Samantha and Josh hold their wedding ceremony there. With a nod to its founders, Gwendoline and Thomas, the wedding at the closing of the book is not just a celebration of love between such lovely characters, but also honouring all those who have helped the hedgehog residents along the way.

Once again, Redland has produced a fantastic, satisfying read that I felt sad to finish at the final chapter. It is definitely a series to start from the beginning, especially as so many concepts are carried forwards from previous books. I love that there is such a close knit community in this book and think that the story is a great example of how people from so many different backgrounds can come together in shared harmony… even if one of the people is someone stroppy like Chloe!

Such a great series and another great book. Surprised at where this story went, I can’t wait to see what Redland puts together for next time – plus further hedgehog names!

This is a wonderful addition to the Hedgehog Hollow series. Full of romance but at the same time, some quite dark themes with social awareness which add to the characterisation and which shed light on how people are behaving. I really love character driven writing! I will be sorry to see this series end, but Jessica does hint that she may give us a glimpse of the characters in subsequent books. You really have a feeling with the Whitsborough Bay stories that it is an ever- increasing world and life is going on.

Samantha's kindness is once again both her strength and the thing which brings pressure to her. She has such warmth but is now learning to take care of herself and to try to keep on an even keel - not always easy to do at Hedgehog Hollow. It has been lovely to read about the hedgehogs and I always enjoy the names she chooses to give them. The past certainly weighs heavily on some of the characters but with the long-awaited wedding on the horizon, there are lashings of romance to offset any sadness. Highly recommended for a gentle, romantic read with a touch of grit

This is the fourth edition of the Hedgehog Hollow series, and the first one I have read - a situation I would love to remedy quickly!

Based in the dreamy countryside of Yorkshire Wolds, this delightful book reads like a visit with friends, an extended “family” of wonderful characters whose adventures, romances, secrets and hardships are intertwined throughout the series, with each book featuring our main protagonist, Samantha Wishaw, with a deeper dive into the stories and background surrounding family members, some more prominent than others in each edition.

Sam herself is a lovely lady - a former district nurse now running a hedgehog rescue operation in a farm donated to her by a generous (and now deceased) patron. Sam is a wonderful protagonist - sensitive and deeply caring, vulnerable, estranged from a difficult mother (with great difficulty, Sam has learned to set boundaries and not to be a pushover), and working hard to combat PTSD which has developed after a series of violent attacks, which are described in more detail in previous books.

The story alternates between two first person narrative streams - Sam herself, and Phoebe, a volunteer at the rescue center, an accountant in training, and a young woman (18 years old) with a whole lot of trauma and pain already crammed into one short and difficult life.

Without giving the plot away, the author manages to balance a host of difficult and dark issues, (including child abuse, sexual assault, PTSD) with an abundance of kindness, compassion, and love - somehow managing to create a poignant and heartwarming hug of a book, where at the end of the day, hedgehogs (including even the tiniest of hoglets) are safely nurtured back to health, goodness outweighs evil, and the door is always open (sensibly, comfortably, and only with mutual respect) for anyone needing a friend.

I can’t wait to read more in this charming series - the antidote to whatever ails you - packaged up in a perfectly-crafted format that is both wonderfully light and satisfyingly substantive in its heartfelt messaging delivered.

I am a big fan of Jessica’s books and The Hedgehog Hollow series is fantastic. We pick up in book four with Samantha and Josh preparing for their wedding. They spend their first Christmas together and it is tinged with sadness and they remember missing friends and family. Jessica’s characters have become like friends who you look forward to meeting up with again. We also get to know Phoebe in this book she is shy and reserved and is helping out at Hedgehog Hollow. Samantha is shocked when she finds out something that could ruin her and is devastated. Jessica is also never afraid to shy away from difficult subjects but always does so with empathy and compassion.

I love Jessica’s characters but there are some in this book that are less loveable ! Although the book is set around a weeding there is so much more to this story. Another great read for fans and new readers of this author.

This warm, uplifting read sensitively explores themes of abuse and violence. It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster of highs and lows. Told from dual viewpoints, we learn what's happening in Samantha's life and Phoebe's heartbreaking secrets. There are lots of heartwarming hedgehog stories that define this story. Family life for Samantha and Joshua is never dull. There are more developments of past themes in this book.

This believable, emotional story is full of humour, poignancy and romance with characters that immerse you in their lives.

Reading a great book can touch a reader so deeply that the reader ends up smiling, laughing and crying while reading and even thinking about the characters as if they are real life friends when not reading the book. This series does just that! With all of these books I feel like I am enveloped in a warm hug when I read them and I completely escape to Hedgehog Hollow and feel all the joys, love, heartache, fear and pain that the characters experience.

I absolutely love Jessica’s writing and her characters! This fourth book in the Hedgehog Hollows serie has everything in it that I could have hoped for and then some!

The story is told in first person by Samantha, the main character from all the books in this series and also by Phoebe, the young student accountant that we met in book 3.

What can I say , this book was full of emotions.
The stories that intertwined were full of ups, downs , highs and lows..
The character of Samantha was an open book. She is full of love and support and honesty. She opens her heart and home , and provides a wonderful family life .
Despite her own difficulties and reservations and earlier life experiences.
This book left you wanting more and wanting to explore this wonderful story and characters further . Can’t wait for the next chapter .

This is the fourth title in the Hedgehog Hollow series, and once again, Jessica Redland has introduced us to complex characters with baggage to sort through, cute hedgehogs needing help, and Samantha's family and friends to help everyone out. Before I begin my review, I want to say that I recommend you read this series in order. There is a good recap at the beginning of the book, but to totally understand the characters and to really enjoy the series to its fullest, I still think you should read them all in order. So, now about the story. At the end of the last book, Sam discovers that the bank account for the hedgehog rescue has been cleared out. Her first suspect it Phoebe, the volunteer bookkeeper who Sam discovers is related to the Grimes family. In this story we learn about Phoebe's past and how she has been treated along with her little cousin. Police get involved, the Grimes' family is once again in trouble and Sam is once again stepping up to help someone else. Oh yes, Sam and Josh do finally get married in this one.

What I love about Jessica's writing is that problems and issues are handled in an h0nest, understandable way without making it graphic. The emotion that this book carries and evokes in the reader is amazing. Sam is such an amazing character. With everything that has happened to her in the past, she continues to show huge amounts of compassion for others and has limitless understanding and forgiveness. She looks beyond what seems to be obvious to others and finds the real person underneath. We meet several new characters in this story, who I hope we will see again in the next books. I don't want to give the story away, so am not going to say much more about it. This is not an easy chick-lit story like the cover might lead to believe. It tackles some tough issues such as drugs, physical abuse, prostitution, depression, attempted suicide, grief, and more. I recommend you have tissues nearby when you pick this one up. I can't wait to see what is next for our friends at Hedgehog Hollow.

I am loving this series and this wonderful story did not disappoint, after the ending of the last book I was left desperate to know what was going to come next and this book plunges straight back into the story.

I loved that this time we got to spend time with Phoebe the quiet accountant and get to know her and her family, this story kept me keen to keep reading as I felt a real empathy towards Phoebe and little Darci as we came to understand more about their family set up and how important the role at Hedgehog Hollow really is to Phoebe.

Jessica Redland has a wonderful way with words and has quickly become a firm favourite as an author for me to pick up, especially when I need a little distraction. Her books are like receiving a hug and they always leave me either feeling warm and fuzzy.

If you are looking for some ultimate distraction, definitely read this series they are truly wonderful and the hedgehogs are simply wonderful to learn about.

After reading this book, I'm fascinated with hedgehogs! That's because that little animal isn't just a word in the title of the book, but it's also the passion of the heroine, Samantha, who runs a rescue and rehabilitation program for injured hedgehogs. I learned so much about these little creatures reading this book.

A little background on the story (told in one of the earlier books in the series). Samantha inherits a piece of land with a large house with several buildings, including a barn, on it. The property used to belong to an older man who was lonely since his beloved wife had died. In her visits to the man, Samantha learned that his wife always dreamed of turning their farm into a hedgehog rescue, but she died before making it come true. So when Sam inherits the land, she decides that she will fulfill the wife's wishes. But she runs into many problems, not the least being distant relatives of the woman, who believe the property should belong to them. They even try to scare her off by setting fire to one of the buildings.

In this book, Sam has overcome many of her earlier difficulties and has met the man of her dreams -- a local vet -- and they are preparing to get married. But tragedy strikes again. Sam discovers that all of her savings -- put aside so she could buy food and supplies for the hedgehogs -- has been stolen. Worst of all, it appears the money was stolen the quiet, shy young accounting student she hired to handle the rescue's books. Samantha did not realize that the accounting student was related to the disgruntled relatives who felt the farm and land should be theirs.

But this isn't just a case of someone taking advantage of Sam's trust. The girl has her own tragic story, which unfolds throughout the book.

Although this story is titled "The Wedding at Hedgehog Hollow," the wedding itself plays a small role in the story. The real story is the people surrounding Sam -- their stories, their hurts, their troubles. We see them grow and overcome those problems, in part because of Sam's care and commitment.

I really enjoyed the story, but I do have one recommendation. I had only read the first story in the series, and much of this book hints at other stories in the series. So, at times it was frustrating to me to read bits and pieces of backstories that were developed in earlier books. I felt like I wanted to know more of those stories. So I definitely recommend you read the stories in order to avoid this frustration.

Can't wait to read more books by Jessica Redland. She's becoming one of my favorite authors!

I’ve binge-read three books in a row of this beguiling series and would gladly keep going until the great dirt nap as this author has definitely hit her stride with these engaging and poignantly written tales. She has consistently managed to achieve a perfect emotional tone and balance between amusing humor, evocative insights, intriguing revelations, family drama, personal conflict, interesting factoids, and instructive and perceptive observations. I have delighted in the refreshingly angst-free romance between the “badass hedgehog saviour” and the super vet as well as the lessons I’ve obtained while they tend to their adorable “hogspital” patients and fractured families. This tale involved diverse as well as realistically tragic storylines of abuse and neglect, which were deftly and skillfully handled with thoughtful sensitivity. Jessica Redland continues to entice, impress, awe, and wow me with her wordcraft, as her emotive phrasing taps each end of the emotional spectrum with an understated elegance that avoids even approaching an exaggerated or over-the-top level of drama. I covet her mad skills!

I'm so in love with the Hedgehog Hollow series. Is it wishful thinking that I will be keeping my fingers crossed for "A Baby at Hedgehog Hollow" next? I do hope so....... The main character Samantha is stronger than she believes and is coping with the effects of PTSD; Jessica has certainly written true to life events for the characters depending on their personas. Brilliantly heart-warming although I did need some tissues a couple of times!

I must say I am really enjoying this series about the rescue hedgehogs. The author has done extensive research on the rescuing and feeding of hedgehogs and I even suggest you read the wonderful care tips in the back of this book. I have enjoyed the other books in this hedgehog series and we finally get to see a sweet wedding in this one. Loved the descriptions and setting of the wedding as well.
The characters are well developed and the series just flows from one book to the next effortlessly.
I look forward to reading the next in the series.

What a wonderful book this is, I mean I’ve loved Jessica’s books for ages and especially this series, Jessica really knows how to pull at your heartstrings. There’s plenty of fun and laughter here too, after all this is about family including all the arguments but ultimately love , I’m so glad there’s another book because that cliffhanger !! This book was an absolute delight  but let's be honest it's written by Jessica Redland so we know it will be fabulous!

It is the 4th book in the Hedhehog Hollow series  I have to admit I haven't read the first three books but that didn't detract from the book at all. I was able to read it as a stand alone due to the references to things that had happened in the past which gave context and the characters currently dilemmas were only loosely based on previous stories so I could keep up with the story extremely well.

I loved meeting Samantha and her Hedgehog hospital, it was so lovely to read about the little creatures and learn some new facts about them such as ballooning (that was so interesting) I love hedgehogs so it was lovely to read about a place devoted to their care.

The other characters in the story were a delight too. Fizz was exuberant and fabulous, Joel was just the right amount of supportive, Phoebe was secretive but for good reason, her and Darcies journey was so complex and devastating but they stood out as strong characters. Darcie was written as such a gorgeous and happy child despite her experiences it was a joy to read!

I shall have to head back now and read the first three!
