3.5, rounded down.

While reading it, I was enjoying the wild ride, but much like Peggy Lee, once it was all over, I kept asking myself: "Is that all there is?" It's a swift-moving tome, easily read in a few hours, so it does have that going for it.

Unputdownable stuff - a deep dive into what it meants to be an artist, to be a man, and what happens when a saviour complex spirals out of control

Whilst this was well written and told a detailed story. It did not captivate me, I was not wowed by the twist. I'm happy it was a shorter read.

This short novel left me wanting more. The idea for the storyline was fantastic but it just felt a bit over-exaggerated and unbelievable at times. I know that there is an element of fantasy in the book but it wasn't enough for me.

Really clever book that drags you in immediately. You’re just waiting for something to happen and the ending (often such a let down) is fabulous. It’s a short book with short chapters and it’s one you won’t put down.

Deceptively simple read. Wanted it to be longer, but maybe it was more clear as it was. I've bought my own copy, too

I was completely hooked by this book from the first page. The story is engrossing, even though it is rather unbelievable and the characters completely unsympathetic. I was sorry to finish reading it, and would thoroughly recommend it.

I was attracted to this novel because the blurb likened the author to Don De Lillo, who is one of my favourite writers.
Mouth to Mouth could have been an interesting nove: the protagonist reports the story he heard from an old school mate he met by chance about his rescuing a man, and becoming obsessed with him, Plenty of scope to play with unreliability and a very intriguing premise, . While I liked the story line, the way it is written does not work for me, it reads like an early draft that would need a good edit. It has to be kept in mind yhat I read is a review copy that I received from the publisher ahead of publication and it was mentioned that the finished mansuscript may differ. I hope that is the case,.As always, I am thankful to Atlantic books for a review copy via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I liked the idea of this story but I do feel it has been done before - for example "A Lonely Man" by Chris Power and "Last Resort" by Andrew Lipstein, and ultimately the writing here wasn't good enough to make it stand out.

Spooky and unnerving story of perfidy or was it .. saving a guy's life brings the saviour irrevocably into this or ut .. he recounts the story to a writer/friend of former years and it becomes clear it's not at all straightforward .. eerie .. and satisfying but overall sour taste..

A quirky and clever story where the narrator is telling a story that was told to him by an old acquaintance he meets at the airport. There is some question over the reliability of the person telling the story but that makes it an intriguing read, along with the question of why somebody would tell their life story to a person they didn’t know that well while waiting for a plane.

With thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy to review.

Mouth to Mouth reminded me of The Rime of the Ancient Mariner. A man meets an old acquaintance at an airport, Jeff, a man who could be the devil in disguise. Jeff spins a crazy tale about rescuing a nefarious art dealer from drowning and then insinuating himself into the dealer's life. The writer gets drawn in to Jeff's story, all the while not sure if Jeff is a good man.
The man talking to Jeff, a struggling author, may be as equally an unreliable narrator as Jeff is. Is the book we are reading his retelling of the strange affair, or Jeff's. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

I received an ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review, thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher.
I enjoyed this short book, it has an interesting premise and a good ending. It was easy to read and easy to get absorbed, but undoubtedly slow-moving. It's a difficult one to summarise as not a whole lot happens, it is a monologue being told to the narrator in an airport lounge, it is story-teller mode and was a different style which was refreshing. 3.5 stars rounded up!

The title of this book, Mouth to Mouth, could refer to the act of resuscitation, of bringing someone back to life, which is the catalyst of this tale. Perhaps it also refers to the passing of information mouth to mouth or maybe the sustenance given to the young by the adult feeding mouth to mouth.

This is a frame tale where a writer meets an old schoolfriend, who tells him about his life and how it changed after he saved the life of an older man. He never heard how the man got on after his near-death experience and neither was he thanked. His curiosity to find out about this man became obsessive until he eventually becomes part of his family and business.

The chapters are fairly short and told mainly from the perspective of the old schoolfriend. We question whether this never-been-told-before is true and how much of it is real; what is worth valuing and what isn't. As well as this, is it true that if you save someone's life you own them? Or have some influence somehow, a responsibility for ensuring that a life is worth saving perhaps. All things to think about.

An interesting novel that left me with things to ponder. Recommended.

The talented Mr Ripley of our age! Love to read about obsessive men with homoerotic undertones. Really enjoyed the various references in the text and the meticulous writing.

Sadly the colloquial writing style didn't work for me. In fact, it overshadowed the moral core of the story and made for a boring, predictable read.

*Many thanks for the opportunity to read it!

Mouth to mouth by Antoine Wilson is such a wonderfully narrated story that I felt like I was like listening to a conversation between two friends. The chance meeting in the airport of Jeff Cook and an old schoolfriend from college triggers a wonderful confession of events that is intriguing and captivating.

The account of how Jeff came to his current position prompts a number of "what if" questions and focuses on the consequences of the actions he took and the subsequent decisions he made.

Highly recommended!

A quirky short read that was enjoyable and original.

A chance encounter with an old acquaintance at JFK airport leads to a recounting of a tale, a cautionary tale perhaps.

Jeff once saved a man. And in doing so he embarked on a direction of life that would see him become obsessed with discovering just who it was he saved.

And meeting his future wife.

But would he have saved him again?

A fun read with some thought provoking questions.

Well written, enjoyable literary fiction, with an engaging and thought-provoking plot.

Our narrator is a struggling author, who happens to meet an old school friend whilst stuck waiting for a flight with a lengthy delay. The friend appears to be doing very well for himself and invites the struggling author to join him in the first-class lounge, which he is very grateful to accept in the circumstances.

Although the author's recollection is that they were barely acquaintances and they didn't know each other well, the friend soon steers the conversation to a story he is very keen to tell the author as a friend who was there at the beginning.

What follows is the friend's story of how he came to save someone's life, who it transpires is a very successful art dealer, and the ensuing events, with the added interest of being skewed by two potentially unreliable narrators.
