Heart-warming, comforting and gloriously uplifting, Lisa Hobman hits all the right notes with her latest novel, Wishing Under a Starlit Skye.

The time has come for single mother Caitlin to dip her toes into the dating pool again. With her daughter about to become a teenager and her friends all settling down, Caitlin is determined to take a shot at happiness and find her own Mr Right, but she absolutely refuses to go down the route of dating apps and instead hopes to meet her match at singles event. Sadly, however, Prince Charming seems keen to give these events a very wide berth. However, she does find herself crossing paths with fellow villager and astronomy buff Archie Sutherland, who has secrets of his own…

When her daughter’s best friend’s father Lyle Budge asks her out to dinner, Caitlin is immediately intrigued. Charming, handsome and someone who has her daughter’s seal of approval, Lyle seems to tick all the right boxes – until Archie makes a shocking discovery that forces her to see Lyle in a completely different light. Is Lyle the man for her? Or has Caitlin been looking for happiness in all the wrong places?

Is romance on the cards for Caitlin? Is the man of her dreams out there? Or has she missed her chance at happiness?

Lisa Hobman’s Wishing Under a Starlit Skye is a delightful romantic tale readers are going to love! Warm-hearted, witty and enjoyable, Wishing Under a Starlit Skye is an engaging, emotional and entertaining read with a wonderful heroine, charismatic heroes, eccentric characters and plenty of humour and heart to keep readers riveted to the page.

A lovely romantic escape perfect for chasing the winter blues away, Lisa Hobman’s Wishing Under a Starlit Skye delivers on all counts.

Lisa Hobman's village of Glentorrin on the Isle of Skye has become one of my favorite fictional places to visit. With each new book set there I feel like I'm catching up with old friends, meeting a few new ones, and welcomed back with warm hugs. It was fun catching up with couples from the first two books and meeting new villagers with future story potential.

I've been looking forward to Caitlin's story and it did not disappoint. I loved the development of the characters in this book as well as the evolution of Caitlin's relationships. Her forays into dating at 40 were frequently humorous, sometimes awkward, and very relatable. I enjoyed the twists and turns her journey took. Of course, nothing you do in Glentorrin is done in a vacuum which means everyone feels they have a stake in the outcome of Caitlin's new adventures, including her friends and her 13-year-old daughter, Grace. All of it comes from a place of love though and they all have Caitlin's best interests at heart.

I really enjoyed Grace, an evolving character who has a journey of her own. She and Caitlin have always been a team of two. Allowing new people into their family requires changes and the way those changes unfold (with some surprising twists) were both heart-tugging and uplifting.

Archie stole my heart with his generous, caring nature. This is a man anyone would be blessed to have for a friend. I was surprised by a twist that occurred as a result of friendship but wouldn't have expected any less from this character. I really enjoyed his slowly-deepening friendship with both Caitlin and Grace. He's a gem and I was in his corner, cheering him on the entire way.

If you enjoy close-knit communities, mature characters, plenty of humor and heart, some surprising twists, and well-deserved happy endings, check out Wishing Under a Starlit Skye. It can be enjoyed as a standalone but I also recommend Dreaming Under an Island Skye and Under an Italian Skye. Characters from both of the earlier books figure prominently in this one.

Wishing Under a Starlit Skye is a wonderful story set on the, what I believe, beautiful Isle of Skye. When I say, what I believe, I have never been there and am only summising it from the amazing descriptions by Lisa within this book. I was delighted about the reference to Gretna Green and the world famous Old Blacksmiths Shop as that's where my hubby and I got married on Valentine's Day 2000!! The main character, Caitlin is a single mum who has set herself up in Glentorrin as a baker. Her daughter is now 12 and Caitlyn believes the time is right for her start dating but she doesn't want to go down the modern route of using a dating app. Follow this strong, independent woman on her amazing journey to finding love in the most unexpected place!

REVIEW ~ NIKI PRESTON ~ 5 STARS

What a fabulous book Wishing Under a Starlit Skye is. Superbly strong characters that are expertly brought to life by the author, Lisa Hobman.

The main character Caitlin is a single mother to her daughter Grace, she decides she really would like a partner. The time feels right. How on earth is she going to find a suitable other half on the Isle of Skye? thus she embarks on a few disastrous “singles nights” Could the man of her dreams be right under her nose after all?

I loved the beautiful descriptions of the Skye scenery. I spent three years living on Skye and boy what a life it was. This book brought back some perfect family memories for me. Lisa really brings the whole Island to life. Her characters have flaws, don’t we all and this only helps to make this book and its story much more believable. The relationships between family and friends are awesome and wonderfully warm. We go on an emotional journey with Caitlin and I was willing her to choose the right man. One is so right and boy is the other one so wrong!

A beautifully heart-warming story that left me with a warm fuzzy feeling. All will be well in the world of love after all.

This is another emotional story set in Skye. The story focuses on Caitlin, a single mother who has invested her life in Grace, her daughter. Deciding she would like to start dating now her daughter is almost a teenager leads to many humorous and poignant moments in this engaging story.

Believably flawed characters and realistic friendship dynamics draw the reader into Glentorrin's community and become invested in their lives. The location is vividly described and integral to the story.

The ending is romantic and heartwarming.

I received a copy of this book from Boldwood Books via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

What a heartwarming cosy story. For me the thing i love most was the relationship between Caitlin and her daughter Grace. Grace left me cracking up laughing several times, the way she is just out with it with her mum. Reminded me very much of my own 13 year old daughter, mine has just got the added moodiness 😆. This is one I do highly recommend, it really does make you feel warm inside

This book has one of the happiest happy ever afters I've ever read. It was simply lovely!

The whole story was equally as lovely and so heartwarming. The romance was wonderful, but the absolutely most delightful thing was the children. Ms Hobman wrote their characters with skill and understanding and I adored both of them.

It isn't all sweetness and light though, as there are several tension-filled scenes that add to the drama to keep the reader turning the page.

Highly recommended if you want a hefty dose of the "ahhh" feeling!

I fell in love with this book, such a gorgeous, heartwarming romance. It's the first book I've read by Lisa, definitely not the last, I've already downloaded her others from KU.

Beautifully written, with characterisations that were relatable, I loved the relationship between Caitlin & daughter Grace.

The descriptions of Glentorrin were idyllic, the storyline captivating, compelling you to keep turning the pages.

And who doesn't love a happy ending?

Many thanks to Rachel's Random Resources for my tour spot.

A very enjoyable book. I thought the characters were all very realistic. The village of Glentorrin sounds lovely and there was just enough description of the areas they went to on the Isle of Skye.
Caitlin is the main character and when she decides to “look for love” we follow her through the world of speed dating, singles nights and blind dates.
I only found out afterwards that this book is part of a series. I read this as a standalone and didn’t feel anything was missing by not reading previous books (it is nice to know there is a back catalogue which I need to explore). Lisa Hobman is a very witty author and I would recommend this book.

You can always rely on Lisa Hobman to pen a fabulous novel!

Thirteen years ago, Caitlin Fraser made the decision to go it alone and have a child. With her daughter, Grace, heading toward her teenage years and her friends all settling into relationships, Caitlin finally feels it’s time to explore the world of dating. Deciding you want a relationship and actually finding a partner are two very different things – as Caitlin is about to find out!

Here is an author whose love of my home country shines through all of her books; this one will no doubt have scores of people planning a trip to Skye. With a fabulous storyline packed with great characters, this is a marvellous tale which had me invested from the word go. I couldn’t find fault even if I wanted to. Everything about this book seems very real; the dialogue is what you would expect but, for me, the introduction of Sophie just tipped things over the edge. What a cutie! Terrifically entertaining and a wonderful read. A perfect title and a gorgeous cover all add up to the perfect package. Highly recommended and well worth all five sparkling stars!

My thanks to the publisher for my copy and to Rachel Gilbey for my spot on this tour; this is – as always – my honest original and unbiased review.

Oh my word, what an absolutely amazing read! I laughed, I cried and had all the emotions in between, such a wonderful story about friendships, finding love and eventually marriage, I would love to see this carry on as a series, well done!

What an amazing 5 star read I absolutely loved this book. I adored the characters archie, caitlin and grace and Sophie and of course the gorgeous dogs. I was so pleased when caitlin realised that archie was made for her. I was brought to tears many times by this book. I just wanted to keep reading. I will definitely go back and read more by this author. Fab read.

Wishing Under a Starlit Skye
by: Lisa Hobman
Boldwood Books

The small, Scottish village of Glentorrin on the Island of Skye is a perfect setting for an uplifting story of love and parenting. I felt a very warm reader's welcome in this close, friendly community, getting to know both of the likeable main characters, Caitlin and Archie. As a bonus, the side characters add fun, surprises, and excitement to the plot.

Single parent Caitlin provides delicious treats to local residents from her bakery Caitlin's Cakes and Bakes. She has a loving relationship with her sweet daughter, Grace, but she's now thinking of romance in addition to parenthood and cupcakes! Rugged Archie runs a campsite and is passionate about astronomy. He's contemplating adventures in love as well as the outdoor ones that his business specializes in.

Along with her storyline of dating and wishes for love, Hobman's perceptive writing add issues of parenthood and parenting to her narrative, drawing me in even more. She compassionately shows us that family does not have to be traditional and conventional. It can present, Instead, in alternative formats, offering possibilities for love, bond, and commitment as limitless as the cornflower blue sky overlooking this coastal town.

Hobman expertly uses atmospheric imagery for the senses throughout the book, relating to sea, coast, baked goods, and of course the spectacular sky and stars. With her stunning setting and characters I cared deeply about, she gave me all I could need in this satisfying and optimistic story. I hope to revisit Glentorrin someday, of course stopping by for one of Caitlin's chocolate cupcakes!

Whisked away to the beautiful island of Skye we catch up with some of the characters who featured in the previous book but especially get to know more about Caitlin Fraser, who runs the Glentorrin bakery, and her daughter Grace, with their adorable Yorkie Poo, Cleo. After many years of being a single mum, Caitlin decides its time for her to, tentatively, try out the complicated world of dating however, her forays into the singles market are fraught with uncertainty and not without drama.

Caitlin and Grace are both really lovely people, both strong and decisive and the lovely mother/daughter relationship they have only adds more warmth to this feel-good story. The perils and pitfalls of finding the right person are handled sensitively with just the right amount of humour, which made me smile, but underneath is a sensitive story about parenthood and what it means to develop a deep and meaningful friendship with the right person.

Wishing under an Island Skye is perfect escapism for these grey days of winter. It's beautifully written with a set of lovely characters who find their way into your heart, so much so I read the story in one sitting completely lost in the world which this author has created so lovingly.

Just to point out that whilst I hadn't read the previous book, Dreaming under an Island Skye, it didn't spoil my enjoyment, in fact, I've made a note to go back to the first book to learn more about the characters who make an appearance in this lovely story.

Lisa had me drawn into this book from the first few pages, I was really drawn to Caitlin as a character and was ready to see where her ‘finding love’ adventure could lead. I have to say I changed my mind on who she should end up with a few times throughout the book but I am so glad with how it ended. A little pre-warning though people, this book will make you hungry! How I would love a homemade chunk of shortbread while writing this…

I think Sophie was my favourite character though, she is just the absolute cutest and some of the things she came out with just had me wanting to scoop her up and give her a cuddle! Her relationship with Grace was also really lovely and heartwarming to see - in fact Grace would probably be my second favourite character. Oh who am I kidding, pretty much all of the characters were amazing apart from a couple who shall remain nameless (if you’ve read the book then I think you’ll know who I mean).

There really is something magical about laying outside on a clear evening and looking up at the stars, something that I really don’t do anywhere near enough. Lisa does a fantastic job of capturing and recreating this feeling and I could just imagine that I was there. This is definitely going on my ‘things to do this year’ list!

The book had me feeling all the emotions, I was near to tears at one point but I have to say, the last couple of sentences had me properly chuckling 🤭 *Steve* - read the book and you’ll know what I mean! But for now I’m going to shh so I don’t spoil any surprises!

Thank you Boldwood Books for allowing me the privilege to read this.
My first Lisa Hobman book but definitely not my last.
Meet Caitlin a single mum to Grace living in Glentorrin, an idyllic village in Skye, where she also owns a bakery, supplying delicious fresh bread and sweet delights.
Caitlin’s character is so relatable, dipping her toes into the waters of singles nights, with some embarrassing, but laughable, consequences.
She has lovely friends in a beautiful setting.
Happiness, frustration and pure joy, Wishing Under a Starlit Skye had it all!

Lovely follow up to Lisa's previous book set in Glentorrin. We get to meet new characters as well as visiting old ones. Hoping there will be more of this series to come.

Great to be back on Skye and catching up with the characters from the previous book. I loved Caitlin and the relationship with her daughter and was rooting for her to have a happy ending. The descriptions of Skye definitely make me want to go there which makes this lovely warmhearted book well worth reading

I loved this book! I love the series and I have put it firmly on my bucket list!
What a lovely story, not slushy, more of a will they won't they, but you just can't help wishing you were a fly on the wall

What a fantastic set of friends Caitlin has, it would be great to go down to the pub with them and have a chat.

Roll on the next story !

I feel all warm and fuzzy after finishing the latest coupling story set on Skye. ❤️

Caitlin is a single mother to a teenager, bakery owner, and active member of the Skye community. She's decided it's time to look for love.

Caitlin's journey is full of friendships, humour, and drama.

Let's talk men, there's Lyle, Bram, and Archie - I liked two of them, loved one of them, and one of them well you'll see when you read it.

Another comforting, entertaining read from this series.

Skye is still on my must-visit list and ill be visiting again through this series hopefully.
