One of the twistiest books I've read in a long time and it makes for such a gripping read that keeps you hooked. Great characters and very interesting plot.
Another thrilling read by a talented author. The story takes place against the backdrop of 9/11 and was really thrilling until the unexpected ending. Recommended.
This book is so incredibly slow and stacked high with tedious detail. I wanted to like it but It felt like a complete drag.
This was a very well plotted book.. I liked the whole premise of it and it was written quite well!! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher!
Wow!! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this.... Did not see the twist coming best book I've read in such a long time. Would highly recommend this one!

Thanks NetGalley
My thanks to NetGalley and publisher Canelo for the electronic copy.
This is a really good story and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
It's well-written, has a complex plot line (so concentrate) and believable dialogue between well-rounded characters.
In July 2001 Walt Jenkins lands his first homicide case; wealthy author Cameron Young's apparent suicide in bizarre circumstances, is decided to be murder and his married lover Victoria Ford is charged., That September Victoria is in New York talking to her lawyer when their tower is struck.
For over 20 years the largest forensic laboratory in the world had been developing new techniques to try to identify victims from DNA extracted from minute bone fragments.
Twenty Years after the attack one such fragment throws up Victoria's name. Her only living relative being her sister Emma.
Avery Mason is a popular TV presenter, especially for her true-crime special programmes. It's July 2021 and she is on the trail of the story of the latest 9/11 victim to be identified, intending it to be an Autumn Special - a human interest story from Emma's point of view. Except she find's she's stumbled onto a 20yr-old murder case.
Avery has her own secrets and a plan to put into action after receiving a postcard from her fugitive father. The FBI have never ceased taking an interest in the fraudster.
Walt Jenkins is three years retired from the FBI and living an isolated life in Jamaica with his dog, Bureau, when his old boss makes him a proposition which he doesn't refuse. Avery wants to investigate the case; Walt was the detective on the case, and the FBI believe Avery knows where her father is.
Intriguing - definitely, but this is a complex plot with lots of twists and surprises as the story gradually reveals exactly what plan Avery has in mind - and it's really good!
A brilliant read.
Fantastic! This was such an engaging read. The plot was so original and unique and it just kept me hooked from the start. There is a lot going on and you do need to pay attention, which I loved. Too many stories seem to be just surface level fluff that you can skim through in 2 hrs but this story goes to new depths. There are so many themes, all perfectly woven through the story and you will savour every second of it
Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review,
I enjoyed this book. Different. Well-written it grabbed my attention all the way through the novel. Recommended.
This book started so well but then it fell flat. The beginning was fast-paced and we were thrown right into the action. Nice, easy, short chapters which I preferred because it kept my attention span longer. The author crafted a brilliant opening chapter. We get some of the details of the mystery but it doesn’t give too much away, then the end is left on a small cliffhanger so you’re already desperate to get to the next chapter. It also setup an intriguing statement about what’s going to happen and leaves you with questions about how/when etc. Although it started great, I just couldn’t get into it for some reason. There was a lot of jumping about so I felt like I was been jolted out the story. Unfortunately not for me, but I’m sure others will enjoy this!
Twenty years later by Charlie Donlea.
Two decades after an event that shook the world, a chilling cold case murder is about to make the headlines all over again. DNA from a tiny bone fragment has allowed the New York medical examiner’s office to make its first successful identification of a 9/11 victim in years. Victoria Ford had been accused of the brutal killing of her married lover at the time of her death. In a chilling final phone call from the North Tower, Victoria begged her sister to prove her innocence.
I love reading about cold cases. This was a brilliant read. Great story and characters. Recommend. 5*.
Wow what a read. I was hooked from the very beginning. Was an easy read for me unable to put it down. Would highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this domestic thriller. What a great cast of characters that kept me totally invested in the story. Great storyline and POVs that were expertly laid out.
Highly recommend
Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book
A great cover and title and blurb that DID live up to what it promised
A great story, very good ending, well written and kept the intrigue at max
Very enjoyable
Avery is a successful TV personality who has managed to keep her past hidden. She is a woman who knows what she wants. One of my favorite sub storylines was Avery negotiating her new contract.
Ex FBI agent, Walt, is brought out of retirement to capture A very as father and gets involved in helping her investigate an accused murderer who died in 9/11. This story has so many sub stories that it almost loses sight of the main story. It is a very good story that captured my attention from the very beginning. My attention wavered about 2\3 through but the ending recaptured it. It is well worth the time to read this book.
Thank you for NetGalley for providing me with this book for review.
I have to say what an incredible read this is, I was racing through this book to see how it would end. Wow the ending twist, I didn't see that coming. Definitely an author I will be seeking to read more of in the future.
I am a BIG fan of this author and he never lets me down so I was so excited to get my hands on this, his latest book. And, although the bar is already set very high, it not only matched but exceeded my expectations.
So... we start in the past with a death being discovered and investigated. 20 years later we witness a DNA match in a lab examining evidence from 9/11. After many fallow years, a match has been made to one of the known victims. And what a victim... Victoria Ford who, at the time of her death in the terror attack, was accused of the murder of her married lover.
Host of a top rated TV show Avery Mason gets hold of this information and, with her contract negotiation looming, decides that it will make a good show. Especially when she hears Victoria's final words in a phone call to her sister on that fateful day, proclaiming her innocence...
But Avery has a secret of her own that she's rather keep secret, her father is a bit notorious, on the run, and she has, mostly, managed to keep that on the down low. But her past soon becomes her present and that just threatens her future...
Oh My Days! This book just grabbed me right from the start. It then proceeded to suck me in and hold me captive throughout as I tried to guess what on earth was going on in the threads that were meandering around and about each other. I would love to wax lyrical about everything that I really loved about this book but it would inevitable introduce spoilers and that's not happening.
I will say that I loved Avery and really hope to see her again in a future novel. With her job it's always a possibility and I'd love to reconnect with her, even if just as a secondary character.
Plotting is brilliant and so very well executed. You really do have to be on the ball with all the things going on and how they eventually interconnect - or not! I lost count of the times I changed my mind about something I was guessing and how far off the mark I actually was half the time. I did guess one thing a bit early but that was never a given and, once exposed, my early guess did not mar my overall enjoyment.
It's a wee bit slow initially as things are being set up but once everything is in place it does get on with itself very well indeed.
All in all, another winner from an author who just gets better and better and really deserves more exposure this side of the pond (UK). My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.
I really enjoyed Twenty Years Later. It had me hooked immediately and did not let go. The suspense built throughout and I could not put it down. I am definitely going to read more books by this author in the future.
Thank you to NetGalley and Canelo for my ARC.

4,5 Stars
Charlie Donlea delivers another page-turner. The story is complex (as usual) and there are a lot of characters and some jumping between times and scenes. But I never lost track of where the story was and the short chapters kept me reading.
Avery was at the right place in the right time when she had the chance to get the job as a host of a very popular news show. When she hears that twenty years after 9/11 one of the bone fragments found at the site is identified to a victim she is intrigued. But it turns out that there is more to this than just the sad story about a victim of this horrible event.
I am a fan of Charlie Donlea. I love his unusual and complex stories. At first I was not overexcited about the plot summary. But I trusted the author and I was rewarded with a very gripping story with an unexpected twist at the end.
