I recommend "Laughing with Old Abe". Go read it! Laugh, learn and enjoy. This book makes the life, wisdom and and humor of President Abraham Lincoln come to life.
I've been reading Lincoln's letters and speeches for all of my adult life. The conversations with him that people wrote down are also a great joy to read, something I've dipped into for many years. Why? Because he was extremely good at talking, making himself understood and understanding others. He listened, he learned and gave out a wonderful clear response to those he engaged with. This is the great gift we have, a body of work that, taken together, makes a great traveling companion for life.
Sadly, many people find Lincoln inaccessible, not knowing the history or just not knowing what to expect. He lived a long time ago, and in an age where the old heroes are now often considered as villains. We may feel it is hard to even want to engage with the past. Well, throw that all to the wind, this book by Kabambay brings the selections he chooses to life. Lincoln's alive and relevant in these selections and the age he lived in is dramatically real to the reader.
Kabambay not only explains the background and the personalities but also provides graphic illustration in really great comic strips. This is invaluable to understanding. The book brings the ideas and dramatic effect that was Lincoln's intent to the reader. In no other way can you bring this material to life better. Kabambay's book, "Laughing with Old Abe" , is highly recommended.
