I've got 2 dogs and this book was a life changer of sorts. It gave me so much insight into my dogs' different isms and personalities. Some things I wrote off as a breed or bad behavior, but it turns out it was something completely different!

I will definitely use this book as a reference and try to use it in my day-to-day to better understand my dogs.

I am a bit of a geek when it comes to dog behaviour and training. This book is a bit simplistic and a bit old fashioned in approach. I definitely would not recommend giving rawhide treats to modify behaviour. Wouldn’t recommend this book

Well illustrated book for new dog owners that provides answers to common questions in short, concise articles. Updated since the first edition in 2006, the book is well organized to help owners find answers to questions ranging from why does my dog drink out of the toilet bowl to common sense training tips for both the dog and the owner. Because as we all know, 90% of dog training is training the owner! Most articles are at most one or two pages long, are written in a loose, conversational style, with lots of stock color photos of cute dogs (always a plus!), along with side bars like Breed Bytes, Sniff it Out, and safety tips that even experienced dog owners, like me, will enjoy reading.

I love my dogs! I know most pet parents do and they want to understand them more. If dogs could talk you wouldn't need this book but Arden Moore breaks down why your dog does what he or she does. I love how simple it is to understand and well written. If you want to know more about your dogs behavior and learn how you can help them if they are feeling anxiety pick up this book.

I didn’t really know when to expect going into this book, but I was pleasantly suprised! To be honest this is a must read for every new dog owner and I wish I could gift it to everyone around me. This should be your go to dog manual. It covers all the basics and more, in a Q&A style (like what to do with the mail men or when he/she keeps knocking over the water bowl), but also offers additional information like how dogs perceive things and what different barks mean. There are tips for behaviour problems, but also on how to puppy proof a house, care for a senior or disabled dog, but also really specific things you don’t think about until you need it, like a guide on how to break up a dog fight and the dangers in a house. I love how extensive it is, and how much it is about the wellfare of the dog. There are some training tips but not much, and it isn’t for severe behaviour issues, but this is the perfect guide for everything that you need to figure out on your own with trial and error or specifically google about, now all in one package.

Two downsides, though the theory of positive inforcement is used, there are a few mentions of the domination theory. Not in a harmful way I believe, but as this theory has been debunked many times I found it odd to find it here in a book that follows all the latest dog science. There is also mention of a gentle leader/halti which personally I wouldn’t consider dog friendly. But all in all I really recommend this one for everyone who cares about their dog’s happiness, especially puppy owners.

The Dog Behavior Answer Book is a question-and-answer format to explain how to approach certain dog behaviors. It seems to be a good resource for those dog owners with many questions, and she frequently refers to behaviors certain breeds exhibit. I found it somewhat tedious at times and, at other times, very insightful.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC of this 2nd Edition to read and review

What a wonderful and easy to read book this is. We have had dogs all our life, two at time and always rescue dogs. This book would have been invaluable over the year, unfortunately we had to learn the hard way through experience and trial and error.
I would strongly advocate this book to read by all dog owners - maybe even before they get a dog - or two. It is fun to read, with lots information and cute photos, and therefore the information is retained and retrieved when needed.
Love, love this book. . Thanks you NetGalley and the publishers for the DRC

This is a beautifully produced book with loads of gorgeous pictures and good advice. It covers topics such as choosing the right breed for you, training tips, dealing with issues your pup may have and is is dotted with quirky facts, helpful hints and healthy dose of humour. I may need to write in myself as the 2 issues mine has are not covered despite a big range of information. Does Fido smell a 3rd edition?!

A concise and very thorough book on dog behaviour that will answer all the questions you have about your furry companion, from quirks to disappearance to how to fix bad habits. There's no question left untouched or unanswered, which is extremely useful for dog owners, who will be able to put these tips into practice whenever needed. Worth having at home and consulting every time you see your doggie behaving in certain way you either wish to fix or simply understand the reason for it happening.

Howerver, it shouldn't have been so heavy on wolf-based behaviour and pack dynamics, since it's a very different matter and a rather antiquated view of domestic dogs. No serious veterinarian, or even animal psychologist, that I'm aware of follows that theoretical framework anymore. Besides this hiccup, it's a useful handbook for the general public. And it has such lovely pictures of puppies!

This is a really useful guide which follows a Q&A style layout. The author takes time to explain certain dog behaviours and ways to remedy those which may be a little antisocial.

The book is well written and extremely informative, there is even a section at the end with some basic training routines that you are able to do with your dog.

I think reading it made me realise that I probably do know a lot more about dogs than I originally gave myself credit for however, it was still good seeing t in black and white. My one warning however, would be that the author is American so some of the advice she offer is in relation to things which are more widely available in the USA than here.

An interesting series of doggy tales that help explain some dog behaviours. A book that some dog owners will love and others will find they gain little from it. Worth a read.

while it isn't exactly what I was expecting, it is a great book of basics. It does touch on some problematic behaviors, but the answers weren't very deep in this regard.

I loved the Q&A style of the book and all the great photos. I agree with a lot of the book, and disagree with some (as to be expected with a book of this type). It will give new dog parents lots of fascinating insight as to why your dog is doing what it's doing.

As an owner of dogs with several deep rooted issues, and having raised, fostered, and volunteering for rescues, please make sure to socialize your new puppy. And remember that it takes time, especially for adult dogs, to adapt to being adopted and brought into a new home. It can take months for them to feel safe...take it at their pace, not yours.

If your dog is having any type of behavior issues, suffering from anxiety, etc...please have an animal behavioral therapist come see your pet in his/her environment.

Thank you NetGalley for the digital arc.

This is a great book about learning about your dogs' behaviors and why they do certain things. I learned a lot and will be referring back to this book quite a bit.

Thanks to the dog behavior answer but I now know why my dog Bella likes to go roll and other dogs is mess after her bath. There were some things I already knew but most things I was surprised that and appreciated all of it. I love to learn more about my little fuzzy four-legged friends. Especially when the answer explains that they’re just being a dog and not the lowest man on the totem pole. I really enjoyed this book and I’m glad I received it. Thanks to netGally in the author for this review copy. I am leaving this review voluntarily in all opinions that definitely my own please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

What a fun book! I recommend this to every dog owner, canine lover and animal enthusiast. The questions and answers were clever, clear and insightful. Kudos to Arden Moore for this great resource.

Not exactly what I thought it would be, I had expected more answers to questions about problem behaviours or how to understand certain behaviours but I didn't do any of that in this book. For a basic book for dog fan without many answers to questions then it's ok but if you're looking for all those dog behaviours to be explained and guidance then I would look elsewhere - disappointing!

A quick read/refresher on dogs. From selecting the right dog for your family right through when you know it is time to euthanize your furry friend. Written in an easy question and answer format so it makes it easy to find what you are looking for. Super cute photos as well which made it enjoyable.

Nothing earth shattering or super new in here but would be a great book for new dog owners and is a good refresher for us seasoned dog veterans.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the ARC of this book.

An honest delight and need for every dog owner (like myself). Often times we catch ourselves thinking "Hm, I wonder whats going on in that adorable tiny (or big) head?" and this book does a great job in giving some answers.
I love getting insights into the behavioristics of animals and especially my pets. Weather that be figuring out how a certain quirk could be explained or even why they have a certain, for me incomprehensible preference.
All inall a joy to read and a great way to get to know your dog from a different perspective.

Wow! What a wonderful book for both dog owners and those who are thinking of gaining a furkid. Very easy to read and understand, gives, in great detail, answers to many frequently asked questions in a language that all can understand.
The author also backs up his answers with in depth and very interesting facts. He also gives lots of historical facts regarding dog breeds.
A very well written book which is a wonderful reference to keep handy for use when problems occur. I will certainly keep this digital copy for my own reference.
