Interesting. Entertaining. Quirky.

I love a good book with different energies. It just keeps the page turning.

Another one knocked out of the park! Made me laugh - I cannot wait to see if they will be any more stories with these characters that I have fallen in love with.

Jesse Q. Sutanto did it again - I was laughing so hard I nearly cried while reading »Four Aunties and A Wedding«, the second book in the Aunties duology. At least I think it's a duology. But honestly? I want a third book. I don't know what it would be about but what I know is that I am not ready to say goodbye to Meddy, Nathan, and the aunties.

»Four Aunties and A Wedding« is set immediately after the end of »Dial A For Aunties«. Nathan and Meddy are planning their dream wedding and everything seems to be perfect when they meet a family, not unlike Meddy's own, who seem to be planning the most beautiful weddings. Well, until Meddy realizes the wedding business is a scam and her wedding vendors actually want to kill someone - at her wedding. So, even though it's her wedding day, Meddy and her Ma and aunts try to interfere with the impending doom (i. e. the murder), and... chaos ensues.
(So much chaos.)

Meddy's family is exactly as charming but catastrophically chaotic as in the first book and I just love them. The aunties are the worst but also so very lovable.
At first, the book felt a bit repetitive because I only recently finished »Dial A for Aunties« and some of the things the aunties did was similar to what happened in the first book. The plot was also quite slow in the beginning, a lot of what happened we already knew from the synopsis and I was desperately waiting for something exciting to happen, something new and fresh. I struggled a bit during the first half of the book, put it down multiple times, and couldn't get myself to pick it up again. Don't get me wrong, I liked it but it just wasn't everything I hoped it would be. It was just too similar to the first book, even though there wasn't a body Meddy and the aunties had to get rid of. I think it also was because the setting is again a wedding. Of course, I was excited to read about Meddy and Nathan getting married - they deserved it and I love both of them, but especially Nathan and how patient he is - but... it just wasn't as fun as I hoped it would be.

But the second half? As I said in the beginning, I was laughing out loud and I nearly cried. The situation Meddy and the aunties ended up in was hilarious and just comedy gold.
I couldn't put the book down and read the second half in one sitting because I just needed to know what would happen and the ending didn't disappoint at all. The book/series is wrapped up nicely in »Four Aunties and a Wedding«, the ending made a lot of sense, which I love.

So, while »Dial A for Aunties« very well can stand on its own, I think the second book isn't a necessary addition, but a really nice one and I would absolutely recommend picking it up if you liked the first book.

This is the second book in the Aunties series - the first one is DIAL A FOR AUNTIES.

I adored the previous book and was super excited to read this one.

A fantastic addition to the series, I hope there’s another book to follow!

I love the Aunties - they are so quirky and unpredictable! Their chaotic energy makes the book so much more entertaining! I love that Meddy always gets roped into their shenanigans though half of the time she does unintentionally initiate it!

It’s so outrageous I love it, and I could see these being made into films - they would be hilarious!

I loved the first book in this series so much and high hopes for the second.
I'll be honest although this is a good book, it did not live up to expectation.

I really liked Dial A for Aunties and was really liking forward to this sequel, but sadly it didn’t work for me. It amped up all the wrong things for my taste and in doing so lost the charm of the first one. The plot really went way out into the absurdity and the cringe factor in the comedy was dialled up to eleven. I always struggle with cringe so the combination of the two plus the complicated plot with a huge cast of characters spread the charm to thin for me. But I’m sure that other people will love it

Dial A For Aunties was my favourite book of 2021 so I was very excited to get my hands on an advance copy of the next book and find out what Meddy and her hilarious Aunties get up to this time.

I was not disappointed! Four Aunties and a Wedding is another rip-roaring laugh out loud comedy from the hugely talented Jesse Sutanto.

You would think one disastrous wedding, complete with a dead body, is enough bad luck for any family.

You would be wrong! In the second book of the totally brilliant Aunties series, Meddy and her aunties find out they have inadvertently employed a mafia family to be the wedding coordinators. And it appears the mafia have plans to murder someone at Meddy and Nathan’s wedding!

And Meddy thought her biggest problem was the neon purple outfits with the fascinators, each topped by a posed Komodo dragon, all her aunties would be wearing!

I would recommend that you read Dial A for Aunties before this second book although it can be read as a stand alone.

Totally brilliant. Can’t recommend Jesse’s books highly enough.

Four Aunties and a Wedding is the sequel to the 2021 novel, Dial A for Aunties. Whilst it can be read as a standalone novel I would strongly recommend reading Dial A for Aunties first, in order to better understand both the background to the story and the dynamics of Meddy's crazy family.

I was so excited to get my hands on an early review copy of Four Aunties and a Wedding, albeit slightly nervous in case it didn't live up to expectations, given how much I loved Dial A for Aunties. However, I needn't have worried because Sutanto has provided yet another laugh-out-loud hilarious story about Meddy Chan and her outrageously eccentric family.

After years of photographing weddings, it is Meddy's turn to get married. She and her Chinese/Indonesian family are travelling to Oxford, England, the home of the groom's very proper English family, where Nathan and Meddy are due to be married in a traditional ceremony at Oxford Christ Church. Meddy knows how stressful wedding arrangements can be, so she hires the Tanuwijayas, a family of wedding vendors who have the skills to organise everything that Meddy and Nathan will need to make their day super special. After years of dealing with her own crazy family, Meddy is relieved to find a kindred spirit in Staphanie, the Tanuwijayas' photographer. However, on overhearing a telephone call which indicates that the Tanuwijayas may not be quite what everyone believes. They may be excellent wedding vendors, but they also appear to be deep into shady business with plans to "take someone out" at Meddy's wedding. It seems like Meddy and her aunties have unwittingly got themselves involved with an organised crime syndicate! Can Meddy and her aunts foil the mafia's plans, save the target and get Meddy to the church on time?!

Meddy may be the heroine of the story, but it is her mother and aunties who steal the show with their mis-use of British slang and their startling wedding outfits - the ladies really are absolutely bonkers, but I can't deny that they certainly know how to put a pair of tights (aka pantyhose for you US readers) to good use!

Four Aunties and a Wedding had me laughing out loud. It's weird, wacky, totally absurd, wonderfully ridiculous, unique and strangely heart-warming. Plus, it's kind of a mystery/crime story, so there's a little bit of intrigue thrown in to keep the reader hooked. I really did have so much fun reading this book.

Huge thanks to HQ and to Netgalley for providing me with a review copy of this brilliant book.

Jesse Sutanto writes another entertaining mystery about Meddy Chan who is getting married to her love, Nathan. A Chinese-Indonesian family company is organising everything, with the wedding photographer, Staphanie quickly becoming a friend of Meddy's. But the wedding has a certain amount of complications...

Her mum and her aunties will do anything for Meddy, and this is a fabulous, uproarious and engaging read that will really make you laugh. I loved the zany plot, the aunties, and their banter. Four Aunties and a Wedding is well worth a look.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from HQ via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

While I didn’t quite enjoy this as much as the first one, it was still a fun read! At times some of the extremes the aunties went to did get even more ridiculous than the first book, and I actually found part of it a bit predictable. And I got annoyed at Meddy but if I was in that situation probably would’ve made even stupider decisions! There was still a lot of funny moments and it’s super easy to read! - I flew through it!

Another crazy, fun read from Jesse Sutanto.
The aunties and Meddy are back with a bang for the wedding of the year. The over the top descriptions and actions of the aunties are as wonderful as in the first book and there are many laugh out loud moments as well as those did that really happen moments. Such a delight to read.

First of all my thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for an advance copy.

I suspect American readers will enjoy the beginning more than I did - from East London, living in Oxford, I know the hotel by reputation and have never been inside the college the wedding takes place in, the cockney accents/slang at the beginning mistakenly used by Meddy’s aunts are predictably over the top. After the the first quarter the real action begins and the accents are (mostly) forgotten. The family have to deal with a mafia family! It’s hilarious and they do step up to the plate in typical chaotic fashion so the second half flies by. If you liked Dial A for Aunties it’s more of the same, with laugh out loud moments but personally I enjoyed it most as an airport read! It is cringeworthy at the start but it dies down, I promise.

Thank you to NetGalley and HQ for the ARC.

I read Dial A for Aunties last year and really enjoyed the hijinks of Meddy and her aunties. In that regard, the sequel didn't disappoint! The relationship between the 5 of them had me laughing and cringing in equal measure throughout.

I did find the book frustrating in parts - I wish Meddy would voice her opinions with her family more. I also found that the build up to the ending and the big reveal dragged in parts. I wish we had seen more from Nathan as well!

Overall, I enjoyed Four Aunties and a Wedding and read it in the space of a weekend. It's a fun and fast read that I'd recommend

3,5* upped to 4
I loved Dial A For Aunties and had fun in reading this one even if it was a bit over the top at times.
There're some very funny moments, I laughed out loud but the story was always on the border to become a slapstick comedy (and I'm not sure it didn't become one).
There's some interesting remarks and scene about the cultural clash and there're some very funny scene. But sometimes the humour seems a bit forced and the aunties becomes sort of caricature.
The mafia part is not gripping and it was a bit stereotypical.
It's funny but there wasn't a lot of unexpressed potential.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I really enjoyed this book, it was sweet, romantic, chaotic and also quite hilarious. Just like Dial A for aunties,
This mainly revolved around Meddy and Nathan’s wedding but also around what is perceived as a type of mafia war going on between people attending the wedding. But they aren’t guests at the wedding! They become much more than that.
The aunties are just as witty as ever and the relationship they have with everyone really makes me laugh.
I do wish there was more to Nathan and Meddy, they seem like such an adorable couple that you just want to hear about how they truly are with each other with no other madness going on around them, see some of the intimate parts of their relationship.
Overall this was a lovely read and flowed great, lots of laughs and also moments of ‘oh no, what have the aunties done now’.
Thank you netgalley for giving me an e arc copy in exchange for my honest review,

Absolutely hilarious. This book had me in stitches trying to control my laughter whilst reading in bed.
Very easy to read, perfect mood-lifter and an anti-dote to the whole current situation. It was perfect!

I picked up this book because I'd heard so much about the first book Dial A for Aunties. When I saw it on NetGalley, I requested it immediately. And so glad I did.
The book centres around Maggie's wedding to Nate and her Aunties (her mum and three aunts) who are very, very excited to be going to a fancy English wedding in Oxford. They've got fancy hats and have even tried to learn a bit of British English (the phrases they've learned are hilarious).
I'm not sure how best to describe the story. A comedy crime caper, perhaps. It's where family meets The Family. Without giving any spoilers, it is generally very twisty and funny. I laughed out loud a few times.
I love how the aunties are written with affection. And I love the way the family bonds between the four aunties and between them and Meddy shine through. It's a lovely, lovely book.
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for letting me read an ARC of it.

My first time reading this author and it was a real rollercoaster! An enjoyable read, though I did find the aunties a tad too over-the-top one time too many to count... Being Indian, I know exactly all the ruckus aunties can get up to, but this one felt a little bit stretched. Might've worked better as a visual on a screen, and reading it over and over got tiresome at times... But it was funny, I can't fault it that!

This was a mixed bag compared to the first book, but I'm giving it 3 stars because of my enjoyment of the first half alone. The humor is exactly what I was hoping for, and I laughed out loud more than once. Meddy's aunties are still ridiculous and lovable for it, even more so now that they're trying to be proper British for Nathan's family. This goes as well as might be expected.

The plot/mystery in this book is really predictable, and while that doesn't necessarily have to be a problem, the repetitiveness of the events definitely was. Meddy and Nathan kept having the same conversation, the aunties kept landing in the same situation, and the only novelty was how the author tried to pretend like something new was happening by ending a chapter with Meddy's (exaggerated) reaction to a situation, only for us to find out, two paragraphs later, that we've been through this before. If Dial A for Aunties was ridiculous, the sequel amps this up until everything is pure chaos, and there's very little substance left, even though there was potential for more. For example, there's a weird tension surrounding Annie, Nathan's mom, and the way Nathan treats Meddy's mom, which could have been a very interesting subplot to explore. (Does Annie feel her son doesn't love her? Is he secretly adopted? I want to know!)

For something still categorized as a romance, there was precious little of it, despite the main event being Meddy and Nathan's wedding. Unfortunately, we don't get to see much of them as a couple, even though I think that would've definitely improved the book.

Still a good time, but needed to be dialed back.

I was so pleased to get an ARC of Four Aunties and a Wedding! I loved Dial A for Aunties, I love how hysterical and over the top these books are, that you have to suspend belief to read them, and that they are 100% entertainment.

After getting away with actual murder in the last book, Meddy and (sickly) sweet Nathan are getting married in Harry Potter-style Oxford and the aunties are there to add drama and mishaps of course.

There’s more murder-related shenanigans in the form of a shady group trying to use the wedding as a venue for execution (like I said, suspend belief!) but the aunties are there like a bumbling MI5!

It’s a fun read, without particular depth, but I don’t think that’s needed here. I hope the aunties will be back for book 3!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for an honest review.
