You know those books you appreciate, but you just can't really appreciate them for some reason?
That's basically me with this book - there was nothing in particular to dislike about it, the writing was quite witty, there were a couple of fun twists and turns... But as a whole? It just felt kind of 'meh' to me...

This was a very light-hearted and fun read. It's not a super deep book, but I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It's original, unique, and quirky. It made me smile and was well worth reading. I'd read a sequel in a heartbeat.

This was tremendously entertaining! Well done. I highly recommend reading when you need a break from reality.

Thank you to Matador and Troubador Publishing for giving me access to this book as an E-ARC via Netgalley. All opinions are my own.

I’m not quite sure what to make of Stanbury’s book. Did it have a plot or was it just desultory scenes thrown about? I don’t know! I give the author that it was a fairly fun read – I do like my Greek mythology and am not a stranger to literature where the myths and its characters are used in a modern setting for (often) comedic effect, so that’s all good. Not ground-breaking in any way but that wasn’t something I expected either.

However, the lack of plot was, well, lacking making the reading experience feel a bit disconnected for my personally. I didn’t know what was going on for half of the time as perspectives jumped around a bit from chapter to chapter.

All in all, I liked the comic use of Greek mythology but didn’t really connect with the story.

I gotta say, I'm shocked I enjoyed this as much as I did! I am a big fan of Greek Mythology retellings and this one was lighthearted and there were times I actually laughed out loud. What would happen if we were to modernize the realms of the big three? Well, you'll find out and you'll probably chuckle a lot too. I also appreciated how the author made Homer a librarian in the underworld. He does this for many of the characters in the stories which will make you chuckle.

I would label this more as YA rather than adult fiction. It's a funny, lighthearted, easy read. Although, there are mentions of Zeus' many lovers and 'dangly bits'.... but definitely appropriate for middle grade and above, in my opinion.
