I love the Cornish Midwife series and I am slowly making my way through them all.

There is a great setting and really likeable characters who reoccur throughout the series.

The plot lines are all believeable even withing this "chick lit" format.

Basically its a big yes from me!

Set in Cornwall this heartwarming story is a must read. A tale of friendship, love and family it is the perfect Summer read.

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside especially Port Agnes. I can’t recommend this series of books enough.

The fourth book follows the lives of Jess and Dexter. Jess has a lovely surprise left on her doorstep in the form of a newborn baby, for Jess who is infertile this is a welcome surprise.
I really enjoyed following Jess’s story, I found myself thinking about this story and wanting to tell people about it.

I do hope there’s another book in this series.

The fourth instalment of the Cornish midwife series concentrated on Jess and her story of previous heartbreak, let downs and infertility, it was at times both heartbreaking but also heartwarming as Jess learnt to trust and love once again!
Jess a midwife, recently separated from her cheating husband and newly approved foster carer finds a surprise delivery on her doorstep one day! Baby Teddy changes Jess’s life as she learns to love Teddy all helped by the delectable Dexter however the path of true love never runs smoothly and we follow Jess as she experiences huge highs and lows emotionally as she works through her feelings for Dexter, Teddy and her previously estranged father!
A good read full of ups and downs, missed opportunities, conflicted emotions, but overwhelmingly of learning to trust and second chances!

Book 4 in the series of the Cornish Midwives, but can be read alone. This one has Jesse, who always wanted a child, and finds one on her doorstep. Love this series from Port Agnes (what a sweet village), and would recommend this one. Have tissues handy.

A Spring Surprise For The Cornish Midwife by Jo Bartlett. This is the 4th book in the Cornish Midwife Series. This book concentrates on a midwife Jess, who hasn’t had the best of luck, she is going through a divorce with her husband after finding out she couldn’t have children. In the last book we saw Jess going through the process of getting the ok to foster and here we see her foster a new born baby with a back story that comes as a shock to her and me as the reader. We see in this book finally embracing the goodness of life but that’s not to say it’s an easy journey. This is a nice easy spring read, slightly predictable but nevertheless very enjoyable and if you are a fan of the series you know what your getting. Having said that it’s an easy read, don’t under estimate the easiness in the subjects that it tackles such as infertility, addiction and toxic relationships. The author tackles these subjects with ease and with grace and a dignity that they deserve, I like that even though it is obviously a easy read the author writes about these subjects so openly and doesn’t shy away from these subjects. I love the sense of community among the midwives and among the village, the it which these books flow through the series makes you as the reader feel part of that community, like you are reading about people you know. As I’ve said it’s a light and fluffy read, it will no doubt have you laughing and smiling but it will in places have you reaching for the tissues. The other great thing about this book is that it’s made up of great strong woman characters, strong woman that are independent yet at times are vulnerable, and we can all relate to that. I have read book 3 and 4 in the series and I haven’t found it hard coming into the series at this stage, you can read them as stand alone books. Weather you are new to this author or a returning fan I have no doubt that you will enjoy it and perfect for those sunny spring days. I will be recommending to friends and family. Can’t wait to see what’s next from the Cornish Midwives ❤️

Book four in the series and yet again Jo has achieved perfection in her writing!
I loved being transported back to Port Agnes and finding out what all the midwives were up too. Heartbreaking and heartwarming all in one book! Cant beat it!

I have loved each of the previous Cornish Midwife books so far so was really looking forward to this one, but sadly I have found this to be my least favourite of the series so far. However, that is probably more to do with my profession muddying my enjoyment than the story itself.
So good to catch up with the midwifery team and get to see what’s been happening in their lives since the previous books - I love the way that although each book focusses on one main character’s story, the other characters still feature throughout, which keeps the links fresh in the reader’s mind.
I realise there is always a lot of artistic licence taken by authors when portraying specific role and professions (eg I’m sure police roll their eyes at most crime fiction) however, I just couldn’t move past a real dislike of Dexter: the male social worker who has twice quickly formed a romantic relationship with a vulnerable female client within a very short period of time after working closely with them as their social worker. That just had huge alarm bells clanging in my ears every time I read about him and I just couldn’t move past that. I tried, I really did - I reminded myself that this was fiction and as such professional boundaries (that are so important in social work) are not required, but I just could not warm to him at all, despite him being portrayed as a really sweet, kind guy and the storyline obviously meant to be a lovely hesitant romance. This book just wasn’t for me, which is a shame. I am however, looking forward to the next one in the series & I’m sure I’ll be back to loving it.

I must say, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the opportunity to read Jess’ story. We got peaks into her life and journey as we read the stories of the other midwives and I was certainly intrigued!

The romance between Dexter and Jess is beautiful. It happens slowly and is wonderfully developed. They really move from friends to support system to lovers in such a gradual, natural way it’s impossible not to root for them and be so happy for them.

As with the other books in this series, however, it’s not just a romance. This a story of how Jess learns to accept support and love. This story is about how Jess grows into a life of abundance and promise. She learns not to cling to scraps of affection and to really believe in the care and joy she is offered. It really is a wonderful journey to witness.

Jess’ relationship with Baby Teddy and how she handles the events around his appearance and placement with her is a focal point for how she evolves and grows.

To muck up the waters and provide the delicious tension to the story, we have Jess’ ex, Dom, trying to get back into her life. He really is a piece of work but his less than stellar character adds flavour to the tale.

A Spring Surprise for the Cornish Midwife is a delightful story of learning to believe one deserves the best this life and this world has to offer.

This is the first book I'm reading, despite it being the fourth book in this series.

The book begins at the start of Jess Kennedy's journey into being a foster parent in the sunny and wonderful county of Cornwall, despite this the road has been rocky on the journey to motherhood as her own marriage previously broke down after she found she was unable to provide birth children and to throw some more curve balls into the mix, she now has had an abandoned child to think about something which she herself can relate to.

Our main character hasn't had it all plain sailing it turns out , with her own background being pretty rocky after being reared in foster care after the death of her mother and being abandoned by her father. We follow her on her journey of insecurities, abandonment issues, and light heartfelt love.

I quite enjoyed this book and I got to get wrapped up in sunny Cornwall, what could be better!

This book is part of the Cornish Midwife series. It is the fourth book of the series but this is the first book I am reading of this author. All the books of the Cornish series have been set in the Cornish seaside town of Port Anges and each book is about one of the midwife in the Port Anges Midwifery Unit.

A Spring Surprise for the Cornish Midwife tells us the story of Jess Kennedy. We follow her as she tries to overcome her abandonment and intimacy issues owing to her life as a foster child almost all her childhood, since the death of her mother and as her father abandons her to foster care. Her childhood has molded her to cling to people and always search for the one person with whom she could feel close with.

Things have also not been easy for her since her marriage disintegrated after she found out about her inability to become a mother. And she applies to be a transitory foster mom to fulfill her longing to be around children and during the process to get approval she meets Dexter. Things change on her unexpectedly when she discovers a new born baby left unattended in front of her house and no one knows whose baby it is.

We follow Jess as she tries to come to terms with her inner conflicts and her insecurities. The unknown baby becomes the focal point of her inner turmoil and unresolved emotional hang-ups. As the story moves on, we get to know whether and how she understands herself and gets herself sorted out.

Overall, it's a sufficiently interesting story told with good depths of emotions. The principal characters Jess and Dexter are likable people and pretty much relatable too. I particularly loved Dexter's characterisation. But I can't say the same about Jess's character. I definitely understood where she is coming from and the reason for her various conflicts; it's just I didn't always agree with them. Still, the ending of the story was definitely agreeable.

Anyone who like to read something light, romantic which touches the heart just a little bit, can try this book out.

I had just started this book, but my app was uninstalled by mistake and I lost my copy of the book before I could download it again. From what I recall, the start was pretty good and I obviously loved the synopsis and vibrant cover. I will have to get myself a copy of this book soon.

Jess has had a tough start in life within the care system. However since being told she is infertile, she's decided to become a Foster carer. After newborn baby Teddy is left on her doorstep. Will Jess be able to let him go? Will she ever be able to love again?

After reading the first and second book in the series "The Cornish Midwife." I knew I wanted to read the others in the series. Unfortunately when I started reading this one I didn't realise it was the fourth snd that I'd missed the third. Clearly this book can be read as a stand alone because I didn't realise I'd skipped one!

It is a short and enjoyable read. It does exactly what is says on the tin and the cornish descriptions make you feel like you are there. It is lovely to be back in Port Agnes expanding the characters met in the first book.

This book is the best out of the three I've read. The twists and turns throughout will have you laughing, crying and holding onto the edge of your seat all in one. These twists are from the first to last page. Making this book a page turner. I read this book in 48 hours and it had me opening it at any point I had a spare few minutes.

Although this book covers some emotional subjects such as; Infertility, death, fostering, abdonaing baby post birth and more. It does not take away from the warm and romantic nature of this book. However it supports those amazing twists and turns like they were made for each other

Having not read the first three books in this series, I didn't realise what I'd been missing out on luckily it didn't matter as it's so easy to catch up. But after reading this book I will definitely read the first three. What a great story. It drew me in from the first page and I could picture everything that was going on as it was well described.
The main character Jess is lovely, she's a midwife and works within a team of midwives at Port Agnes, Cornwall. she's been hurt a couple of times and finds it hard to trust many people. She has recently separated from her idiot of a husband as they found out they can't have children and the fault lies with her which he takes great pleasure in blaming her.
Resigning herself to the fact she will never be a mother she decides she will foster children and also throws herself into her job. Until one night a newborn baby is left on her doorstep. She instantly falls in love.
This is a wonderfully warm gentle story with a touch of drama and some comedy from the things the women giving birth come out with, the range rover had me howling with laughter. but in the next moment, I was blubbering. So delightful I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I was really excited to read this book as it seemed to be exactly what I'd like - an easy, fun read with a village setting in the countryside. Unfortunately, I just couldn't get into it. The writing style was extremely simplistic and the beginning seemed quite rushed.

There were parts that just didn't seem believable and I didn't really get a feel for how much Jess wanted a baby so I found it difficult to empathise/root for her.

I haven't read the other books in the series so maybe this would have helped my opinion.
