Seventeen....the seventeeth hitman tasked with removing 'threats and problems', he is good at what he did, but so were the ones before him until ... well until they weren't!
17 was sent on a mission that didn't quite add up, seemed a little too convenient. Well you know what they say, if it seems too simple it probably is and he finds this out the hard way. The mission proved to be a cover and the intended target was someone else entirely.
17 then finds himself 'rogue' just to stay alive. Using all of his training he tries to stay one step ahead of those he used to trust. Can he go it completely alone though or will he need to learn to trust?
An enjoyable read.
I really wanted to like this book but there was something about it that just jarred me as I read. Perhaps I just didn't get on with the writing style. I enjoyed the plot well enough though I'd say I found parts rather predictable. I don't like to leave negative reviews but I think on this occasion the book and I just didn't get along.
This was a fast paced and intense read that is full of suspense and unpredictability. I didnt know what to think or believe. It was gripping and I had my heart in my throat the whole time, I couldnt put it down. A really enjoyable read.
This is a fast-paced spy story, in a James Bond-style. The plot is tricky with multiple twists. The characters are well-written, and likeable. There's a lot of back story for all of them. so you understand their personalities and motives. Recommended.
Fast paced and action packed but sadly underwhelming.
Greg Hurwitz in his “Orphan X” series handles a similar theme but to my mind much more satisfactorily. Jones, the protagonist in 17, is underwritten. The backstory is unclear and I felt his character wasn’t made clear -, I didn’t have any feel for his age, his physicality or his appearance. I appreciate that he is meant to be an enigma but I needed more to be able to relate to the character.
My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC.
