All the twists and turns you expect from this super writer. When a wife goes missing her husband is suspected by her family and the police detective investigating. But six years later she is seen by witnesses. So where has she been and does this mean the husband is innocent? Great pacing and plotting. Recommended..

I really enjoyed multi-layered story. 5 stars from me

A superb American thriller when Andrew Mason’s wife Brie goes missing six years ago. With the lack of any evidence to the contrary he became the main suspect. This was not helped as his sister and the detective at the time were also not happy.

Andrew moves to a different district in town changes his name and has a fresh relationship when it appears Brie was seen at their old address. The real story starts then with Andrew running around trying to locate Brie, and Mr Barclay then brings in many twists, some quite violent, before the truth is revealed in a brilliant and even believable climax.

Wonderful stuff, which keeps me always wanting to read the author's books.

Thanks to Net Galley and HQ books for the chance to read and review.

Andrew Mason was on a fishing weekend with his friend, Greg, when his wife, Brie, disappeared without trace. 6 years later, he is still a suspect, hounded as he is by his sister-in-law and a lady detective, both of whom believe him to be guilty of her murder.
He has sold his house, changed his name and is in a new relationship. Then Brie reappears...Or does she?
This is another Linwood Barclay page-Turner of a book that will keep you guessing to an end I, certainly, didn’t see coming.
A cracking read. Beautifully written. Highly recommended.

Take Your Breath Away by Linwood Barclay
This is typical Linwood Barclay and if you are familiar with his work you will enjoy this novel. Andrew’s wife disappeared while he was away on a fishing trip and for 6 years many have thought he was responsible for her demise. He has plumbed the depths of alcoholism and has just forged a new relationship with a new identity when someone says that they have seen his wife at their old house.
The detective who led the investigation into her disappearance is involved in the search for the woman who people believe may be the missing Brie Larson. Andrew’s comfortable life is threatened. There are many twists and turns in the story and at times you think you know what happened 6 years ago only to have your ideas turned on their head. With Linwood Barclay there are always surprises which keep coming to the end of the novel.
This is an entertaining read which keeps you gripped from the first page and I would thoroughly recommend it to those who enjoy this genre. I will be recommending it at the various book groups which I run.
I would like to thank the author, the publishers and Net Galley for the opportunity to read a copy of the book in return for an honest review.

A twisting mystery thriller when Andrew Mason’s wife Brie goes missing six years ago he’s the number one suspect. Her sister is convinced as is the lead detective in the case but there’s no evidence. Andrew moves to a different district, changes his name and has a fresh relationship when Brie appears at his old address. From here the real story starts with many a twist before the shocking truth is revealed in a violent climax. But as in all good stories there’s another twist at the end which brings a neat conclusion.

Andrew’s wife, Brie, went missing six years ago. Everyone thinks she’s dead and many people, in particular DS Hardy, think he murdered her.

To get away from the cloud of suspicion hanging over him, Andrew moves away, changes his surname and starts up a new life. When a woman shows up at the house he and his wife used to live in, Andrew is living elsewhere with his girlfriend, Jayne, who doesn’t know about his past. The problem is that this woman looks a lot like Andrew’s wife …

This is a perfectly plotted, expertly executed book, which certainly took my breath away! It’s full of twists and turns right up until the very last chapter. A superb thriller by a master storyteller, who somehow just gets better and better.

This was a great read right from the start. Andrew Mason’s wife Brie disappeared six years ago, and Andrew is the main suspect for her murder. However, he has finally moved on and has a new relationship when suddenly, recent sightings of Brie throw everything into disarray.

This has a strong plot, and I enjoyed reading it. It keeps you turning the pages well after bedtime. It’s fast-paced and well written, another great book from Linwood Barclay. We are directed to be suspicious of all the characters to find out exactly what happened to Brie and why. This produces a great read where you have no idea what will happen next or what happened in the past and why.

The characters are well developed and relatable. There are many characters, though it’s easy to remember who they are and where they fit in. the story is told from multiple viewpoints, which adds interest.

The ending was superb, not as expected; although there was a slight nod to it further back, it wasn’t as I had predicted at all.

An excellent read from the wonderful Linwood Barclay!

The best Linwood Barclay novel for a while now. Such a brilliant story and you never know where you are or what is real or not real. Completely engrossing all the way through.

I really enjoyed this book. 6 years ago Andrew Mason's wife vanished without a trace while he was away on a fishing trip. The police and many others believed he had killed her, but nothing was ever proven. Now he has changed his name, has a new relationship and moved house. Then a woman looking very like his wife turns up at their old house and makes a scene. Could it really be her? This sets in motion a chain of events which no one could have forseen. This is fast paced, well written and will keep you guessing to the end. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.

Oh my this was a riveting read from the very beginning. A real page turner that I couldn't put down. Poor Andrew having to live with the cloud of being suspected of his wife's murder. A great twist was when his wife, Brie, was apparently seen in and around their area. With very twist and turn it kept you engaged wondering what would happen next. I was sure Andrew wouldn't live to know the truth and finally clear his name - I held my breath as I read the part where he was digging up the grave. This was an an absolutely brilliant thriller.

When Brie, missing premised dead for the last six year appears again, what will happen to Andy her husband and his new partner?
Andy was accused of having something to do with Brie's disappearance by the police and he ended up having to change his name to live his life.
We meet Brie's family now, who are dealing with the end of life of their Mum, but they have never really forgiven Andy, until now when their lives inter twine again.
The book has a lot of characters, but they are all easy to follow. The plot line was knitted together really well with lots going on from the past and also in the present.
With murder, guns, intrigue, lots of what you can expect from a Linwood Barclay, and a twist you really wouldn't guess.

This book draws you in from the very first page. It kept me up through the night; the plot is absolutely gripping. When Andrew’s wife disappears some people are too happy to put the blame on him. Six years later and Brie apparently mysteriously reappears around town. There are many twists and turns, and I didn’t see any of them coming. I cannot recommend this book highly enough!

I have read and enjoyed books by this author in the past, and I was pleased and excited to be given this ARC .It started out well and I soon got into the story. However as the book progressed I found my attention going walkabout, I found the book to be too slow and dull in places. It just didn't hold my attention, and I found it a slog to get through. So sorry but just didn't enjoy reading it.

Blooming heck Linwood Barclay has upped his game. I have read other books by him and really enjoyed them all. But this is something else. Much more than I expected. I can’t portray how good this book is. I’m not a writer. Linwood Barclay is THE writer of the day.

Now, there are some great thrillers out there, fully deserving of 4 stars, maybe even 4.5. Then there's Linwood Barclay.
This stand alone novel draws you in from the very first line, pins you to the seat and then throws you all over the place on a roller coaster of a ride, right to the final pages.
The plot is fast paced, tantalising and very very slick.
Loved it.

A woman disappears –is it murder?

Andrew Mason is at his lake house with his best friend and business partner, Greg Raymus when his wife Brie goes missing.

Detective Marissa Hardy is convinced that Andrew murdered Brie and disposed of her body. No matter how many appeals are made, Brie’s body is not discovered.

Andrew has forced himself to move on. He’s met and fallen in love with Jayne. Changed his surname and his business partnership with Greg is dissolved. Life after Brie’s six-year absence is coming right, when a phone call from his previous neighbour, saying that he’s just seen a woman who looks like Brie arrives at their previous home, demanding to know why the house she was expecting, had disappeared. The woman then appears at the hospital where she waves to Brie’s siblings as they stand looking out of the window in their (terminally ill) mother’s room.

Can this be Brie? Missing for six years and suddenly reappearing? How will this play out for Andrew and his new girlfriend?

LInwood Barclay is well known for giving us complicated plots, and this one is full of surprises and twists. As always, the characters are outstanding and the prose excellent.

Linwood Barclay fans will certainly enjoy this book but is it one of his best, I think not. A woman disappears in mysterious circumstances and the husband is the prime suspect. A body is never found and 6 years later he has moved address, changed his name and found a new partner when his wife reappears…….or is it? What follows is the usual plot twists and turns as the case is resolved. It is well paced and keeps you turning the pages although at times frustratingly cumbersome. Being attentive to the small details is always a feature of this authors style but this time a lot of the details were unnecessary and appeared to be page fillers. That said the ending take me for a surprise which is what you really want in a thriller. One small irritation was the spelling of one of the character’s name, Dierdre/Deirdre/Diedre all used. I realise this was an unproofed ARC but this still could have been corrected.
