Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.

It’s 1867 and in Manchester, Mara wants a different life to what she’s living now, one where there is no violence and you don’t have to worry about not having enough food.

She is married and lives with the O'Hara family. They are not liked by people as they’re always drunk, when over intoxicated they are violent. Conrad, who is her oldest stepson is the badest of them all. He is a criminal and not the leat kind towards Mara.

Something happens and the blame is out on Conrad, Mara is the only person who can save him from further punishment. Will she be able to save the family from him?

I was hooked from the beginning. The story makes you feel every emotion so you will need tissues.

Seamus is a man who has a nasty temper and so are his three sons, who aren’t at all kind towards Mara.

Definitely hard to put down.

Wow, what a book. Its such an emotional roller-coaster, jammed packed full. I loved everything about this, well maybe not some of the nasty characters! But I devoured this in one sitting. I will be recommending this to everyone.

Manchester, 1867: Maria long for a peaceful life free of violence and poverty. But she has married into the O'Hara family. who have a reputation for drunkenness and quick tempers. Her eldest stepson, Conrad, is the worst of them all. A brute and a criminal who makes Mara's life a misery. But when Conrad is accused of a crime he didn't commit, Mara is the only one who can prove innocence. Perhaps this is her chance to finally free her family from his toxic influence.

I was quickly pulled into this book. It covers all the emotions so have the tissues ready. Seamus O'Hara is a violent man and his three sons treat Mara atrociously. The eldest son, Conrad, is a vicious criminal. I enjoyed reading about the O'Hara's even though it's heartbreaking at times. Filled with despicable characters only makes you route for Mara more. You just keep telling yourself, just one more chapter, but I couldn't put it down either. A most enjoyable read.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #RandomHouseUK #TransworldPublishers and the author #EmmaHornby for my ARC of #AMothersBetrayal in exchange for an honest review.

What an excellent read.

Full of tragedy, love, heartbreak, and violence.

Poor Mara against her cousin's advice has married a violent man Seamus O` Hara and with his three adult sons is treated appallingly. Her only friend and ally is neighbor, Aggie Roper.
The eldest son Conrad is a vicious criminal who features more in the book than his brothers.
Mara wishes with all her heart that she could be free from the violence and poverty of her family.

This book will have you sobbing at the treatment and tribulations that poor Mara goes through. But you will thoroughly enjoy it.
Emma Hornby writes some wonderful stories and this one hits the mark.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this excellent book. xxxx

Mara is an Irish lass who comes to England when her family is wiped out by the potato blight disaster. She marries a widower with three sons but soon finds that she’s mad a bad mistake. Her husband & sons are bad news and her life is very hard. The oldest lad, Connar, is the worst of the lot and Mara is terrorised by him so when an opportunity arises to escape him she grabs the chance. Mara tries to forge a new life for herself but her past haunts her so will she ever find peace?
Emma Hornby write some great stories and this book is no exception. I enjoyed the book and would happily read other books from her.

A heartbreakingly good read.
This book will touch all your emotions.
1867 Manchester
Mara O'Hara and her friend and neighbour Aggie Roper live in Heyrod street, and Mara with her devil of a husband Seamus and his three sons.
This book tells us Mara's harrowing story of survival after coming over on the boat from Ireland with her dear cousin Rebecca they lost touch soon after she met Seamus and she misses her so much.
This is a long journey for her and the story will touch you so much chapter after chapter, you will need plenty of tissues as you read.
Very worthy five stars and more from me it's a must read.
