This is about 4 women and the strength of female friendship. The book covers many important issues.
It is very heartwarming and inspiring.
What an incredibly apt title that is. It really is a life changing summer for Katie, Robyn and Grace, in this tale of blackmail, deceit, and courage.
And above all about the strength of female friendship This is 4 incredibly strong women (if you count Amber too), who after a particularly memorable and funny first meeting, form a wonderful friendship.
There is plenty of sea glass, and at the point each of them reveals their big secret to the group, and we get them as full flashback bits of the book, I was utterly hooked.
The strength and resilience these ladies show is nothing short of amazing.
The story includes many very important issues, and is I believe the first book I've read that includes raising awareness of period poverty.
It's heartwarming, inspiring and just sublime.
Thank you to Orion and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.
This is a great women's fiction book, which I really enjoyed.
The story is about three women, called Katie, Robyn and Grace, who are friends. We are shown how their friendship develops, while each of them cope with problems in their lives, and how they still have time to help others in their lives.
I found this book heartwarming, fun and enjoyable, I thought the characters were lovely, the setting of Merle Bay sounded stunning, and the story was interesting and relatable.
Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book.
A brilliant read and one I really enjoyed. The characters are loveable and varied, the plot is one that is engaging and medium paced. I found myself completely drawn into the story and enjoyed the writing style.
I have enjoyed all of Cathy Bramley's books and this one didn't disappoint. As well as the individual love stories of the three main characters, I really enjoyed the developing relationship between the three women. Looking forward to reading future books by Cathy.
The Summer That Changed Us by Cathy Bramley, a NetGalley read. This is about three woman that start of as strangers, Katie, Robyn and Grace. They each have their own story, stories that are tough and after a chance meeting, the three become firm friends, fiends that have each others backs and help them with their individual troubles. I don’t think I’ve ever read anything by this author before and after reading this that will change. Even though it deals with some tough subjects, it manages to be light and funny, surprising at times and like it’s captured summer between its pages. I love the three woman, they are strong, independent and feel incredibly real, I think because of the issues it deals with. The setting is stunning and really jumps from the pages and like the three woman do, there’s a sense of peace around the setting, a stunning beach, where they go to talk and collect sea glass. I wonder if I felt this because it’s where I feel incredibly peaceful. This book will undoubtedly make you laugh (sometimes out loud!), it will make you cry (sometimes in public, so have the tissues ready!), it will make you want to be friends with these three woman and like all friendships you will feel frustrated with these three woman but you won’t stop loving them and in parts it will surprise you (just like real life with besties!) but after all that it will steal your heart and that’s what makes this book special. I thought I was reading this unassuming book, knew what was coming and in many ways that is what you will get with this book, but something special happens while reading this book, you get lost between the pages, the story and he character’s jump of the pages like your watching your favourite soap and I think that’s what makes it a bit, it doesn’t feel like your reading a book in many ways because visually this book pops and that’s what makes this book that’s not really anything different to what you’ve read all summer, become something you’ve enjoyed incredibly and what becomes your favourite summer read! It’s not a heavy, life changing read, you get what it’s says in the tin but it enables escapism in its simplest form. Will be recommending to all ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My first Cathy Bramley book and it's instantly got me looking for her others. I loved this. Heartwarming without being twee.
An absolutely fantastic tip top read! I loved this from start to finish. A complete rollercoaster of a read. So many wonderful characters and the setting is idyllic! What makes this book is the portrayal of the relationships through good and bad. The ability the author has to make you want to be past of this group of woman and change the world is awesome. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!
Thank you Netgalley
I loved every single word on every single page of this fabulous book by Cathy Bramley. It is a truly captivating, enchanting and emotional story which is a fantastic read!
Cathy Bramley never fails to deliver a brilliant read with her books, and this came on my reviewing list at just the right time.
Whilst there’s sun, sea, romance and a beautiful setting, there are also underlying important topics, secrets and family dilemmas. There was just the right amount of suspense to keep me intrigued but enough of a setting to provide the perfect escape from reality. The perfect blend of a book especially at this time of year. Whether it’s her cosy Christmas Fiction or Summer Escapism, Cathy’s books are always brilliant.
Emotional, uplifting, hard-hitting, but ultimately a beautiful read. Cathy has done it again!
Loved loved loved this! So heart-warming and just what I needed from a book.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
What a fantastic read. When three strangers meet on a beach one day they immediately become not just friends but bound together by opening it to each other about the problems they are all facing. As they begin to share their stories they come to terms with past events and experiences which is a healing process for them all.Love the characters and the connections between them makes this a lovely, warmhearted story of love, loss and most of all friendships. I love it 5 ⭐from me
Katie, Robyn and Grace….all inhabitants of Merle Bay. Katie has lived there for years and recently taken over the underwear shop in the village following the passing of her beloved Auntie Jean. Robyn has had life changing surgery, and Grace has come to seek solace after the passing of her beloved husband. All are going through a difficult time personally. They come together by accident and together form a tight emotional support bond. This is a really beautiful story of friendship.
cathy bramley never fails to give 100per cent brill story enjoyed reading it from page one to last page so easy to follow and a happy ending for all concerned
I read this on a flight and I absolutely loved it. Cathy’s books somehow have a way of giving you pure escapism from the outside world which we all need to do now and again.

A story full of love and sadness

The Summer That Changed Us is a hug in a book. The heartwarming story of three women who befriend each other and help each other through life’s struggles was so soothing to read. I’m a total fan!
I have loved every single book by Cathy Bramley, so I'm sad to say this one just wasn't for me. I think it may be because it seemed like the style of writing was different and there was more characters to get to know. Whereas usually we have one main character, in this one we had 3 and it just wasn't enjoyable for me. I just couldn't get into it.
You are always guaranteed a fantastic read from Cathy Bramley. Her writing style and warm characters draw you in and wrap you in a wonderful bubble. You meet new friends and can just imagine yourself in the middle of the story. Some writers have a lovely way of keeping you reading from the first page. You don't have to settle in- you are there from the beginning.
Three women meet by chance and are all coping with life's challenges and between them they manage to make their lives richer just by forging new friendships. A really wonderful read.
Love this author and love her stories, always emotional and always so good. The characters, plot and setting were all spot on.
