A lovely book about building friendships and realising we need to be kinder to ourselves. We are our own worst enemies and it can take other people to make us think about things. This book gives off a warm glow along with tackling some hard topics. Uplifting and heartfelt.
This book has all the different emotions that are needed to make a great read. As each character was introduced I was a little unsure but it all fell into place and as usual with Cathy it made for a very good and enjoyable read. Cathy always comes up trumps with her books and this is well worth 5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this e ARC
I've loved every one of Cathy Bramley's books but this has to be my favourite! I absolutely loved it. Great setting, warm, witty and down to earth characters. I would love to be on that beach with all three of these ladies as my friends and confidantes. Katie, Robyn and Grace all have various issues going on in their lives when they meet by chance on a beach following an accident. What develops is a wonderful friendship and some revelations, hurts, insecurities and several issues that are dealt with sensitively and really make the reader think deeply. There are so many emotions in this book and I laughed and cried as I shared the ups and downs of the three friends who call themselves the Seaglass Sisterhood as they met, bonded and collected beautiful sea glass on Merle Beach. This is a story totally brimming with love and kindness and featuring characters that I would love to have as friends. I love that Cathy's books aren't full of graphic sex or bad language but focus on friendship, love and good people helping each other in difficult circumstances. I felt so uplifted after turning the final page that I need a little time before choosing my next read. It's going to be hard to follow this beautiful book. My thanks to Netgalley, Cathy and Orion publishers for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Warm, witty and wise. Cathy's books are always a delight to read. Many of her books are about fresh starts, whether it's starting a bakery, a cafe or a vineyard. In this case, it's three women new to Merle Bay, meeting up on a beautiful beach. A moving story of female friendship.
This is an absolutely gorgeous, fantastic read. I managed to read it in an afternoon, I didn't want to put it down. It has gone straight into my top 3 of Cathy Bramley's books. It has such a warmth kindness to it
Katie, Grace and Robyn have such a solidarity to their friendship, despite only meeting recently. The have all had some adversity, but they are kind and strong. They call themselves The Sea Glass Sisterhood. They collect Sea Glass for enjoyment. I have a vast Sea Glass collection, which I have found over the years. I now feel inspired to do something creative with my own collection.
There are serious issues that are dealt with in this book, and they are dealt with sensitively. This book is very emotional in places, and there are some twists to the storyline. I did guess one of them, but not the others. Ultimately this is a feel-good and enjoyable read that has the overriding message to be kind to others, but also yourself. Women are often very hard on themselves. I really loved reading this book and I highly recommend it.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
The most beautiful read, full of emotion, friendship and wonderfullness!
The power of positivity and female friendships is central to the book, three women who meet in unusual circumstances and are all very different come together and form a friendship based on truth, honesty and safety all aided and abetted by the healing power of the sea and beach, during their walks collecting sea glass they can all confide in each other their various problems ranging from grief, adultery, exploitation, cancer, relationship woes to name but a few!
A great read that really resonated with me as I could empathise totally with Robyn as I myself am BRACA positive and have had to make similar decisions that are not easy!
A perfect read for summer highlighting how important friendships are and that they are to be treasured and cherished!
Thank you netgalley for this early read.
Katie, Robyn and Grace meet in unusual circumstances and form an instant bond. All are struggling with devastating changes in their lives. As their friendship develops and they support and trust each other, they reveal the secrets they are keeping. Can these three women put the hurt and heartache behind them and begin the next chapter of their lives?
A wonderful story of friendship, trust and hope which made for a heartwarming read.
An emotional, heartwarming tale of three ladies Kate, Robyn and Grace form a friendship at Seaglass Beach.
What an rollercoaster of a read, each on their own journey and the friendships they made.
Such an enjoyable book with such sensitive issues written beautifully.
A real joy to read.
Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
Cathy, once again has written a beautiful book.
The story flowed, and it was easy to get immersed in the lives of Grace, Katie and Robyn, their friendship and the trust they had, and the way friends should be there for each other.
The effects of their lives also touched the lives of the people they knew and loved.
It was an absolute delight to read this book, feeling I was there with the three ladies walking in the sand and looking for sea glass.
A Plethora Of Emotions…
A plethora of emotions in this uplifting, heartwarming tale from Cathy Bramley. Three ladies seeking a fresh start and the pretty seaside village of Merle Bay beckons. Each has their own story, their own secrets, their own heartache but together they will be stronger than ever before. A tale of friendships and growth, life and loves. Together they can heal.
This book is funny, sad, warming and heartfelt. It’s a wonderful story and I managed to devour the book in a single afternoon. This book will certainly make you ask yourself a few questions
With heartfelt thanks to Cathy and Orion for such an amazing read, what a journey its been with Grace Robyn and Katie real sisterhood in so many ways there courage was quite amazing I laughed and cried with these lady's.I want to give nothing away but it really is an outstandingly fabulous read and can highly recommend Cathy Bramley does it again❤
The Summer that Changed Us is the latest novel from Cathy Bramley. It’s a heartwarming and uplifting tale following the lives of Katie, Robyn and Grace who form an unlikely friendship group in a small seaside town on the Northumberland coast. It’s a wonderful read that will captivate and entertain. Thank you to NetGalley, Orion Publishing Group and the author for the chance to review.
I really love Cathy Bramley's feel-good vibes to her writing, so when I saw that this book was up for request, of course I didn't hesitate! The Merry Christmas Project was my first book from her and this one certainly delivered as well! I found the tone to be a little bit darker than her other book I've read but I still really enjoyed it. The power of friendship is a wonderful thing and it really shines through in this book. My only criticism is that it felt like Katie, Robyn and Grace sounded like the same person at first in terms of their reactions and responses, but later on in the book it felt like they were their own people instead of copies of each other. The book definitely left me yearning for me, especially on Grace's end because goodness gracious the absolute tea that was spilled on her end. Just, wow! I'd definitely recommend this, even enjoy it while relaxing on the beach, dare I say.
Thanks to Orion and Netgalley for an advance copy of this book in exchange for a review.
Three women meet in unexpected circumstances and quickly form a friendship. This book is all sorts of things - it's both funny and sad and deals with some bigger issues.
An enjoyable read.
An absolute joy to read. Uplifting, sad, romantic, funny and thoroughly enjoyable! I devoured this book, cheering on Katie, Robyn and Grace and their wonderful friendship. I think the last two sentences of this fabulous book totally sum it up - ‘ it started when three women discovered the power of female friendship and what can be achieved when we open our hearts, speak the truth and help piece each other back together. And in case you’re wondering what it is that we can achieve, the answer is, absolutely anything.’
Highly recommended. I absolutely loved this book. Cathy Bramley is right up there on my favourite authors list!
I do enjoy a Cathy Bramley book but I think this must have not only the strongest storylines but strongest women too in Katie, Robyn and Grace who form an unlikely but mighty trio after an minor accident brings them together. Each has their own solid storyline going on with Katie forced to relive a moment in her past she’d rather forget, Robyn struggling with her relationship after two years that have been hard for her health wise and Grace who is still grieving her much loved husband who died suddenly after a heart attack a short while ago. There’s some great messages in this, it’s a very positive read and it was good to see sparky teen Amber with some great input, altogether this is a lively and uplifting read which I greatly enjoyed, 9/10
Cathy Bramley has written a wonderful tale of friendship, love and strength. This was beautiful to read, it flowed so easily and I was quickly caught up in the lives of Grace, Robyn and Katie. Seeing their friendship grow and their trust in each other and themselves grow was amazing and empowering. I loved how they supported each other, but more than that, the ripple effects it had on other peoples lives that they touched. They healed themselves and a small northern fishing town.
An absolute pleasure to read, I felt I was really there crunching along the sand and looking for magic sparkles.
Cathy Bramley writes about relationships and friendships in a very easy going way and this book is no exception. You want to join the group. You want to be friends with them all. She covers some difficult and current topics in this book in an adult, sensitive and humorous way.
Thank you to NetGalley and Orion Publishing Group for the advance copy of this book.
Bramley’s book ”My Kind of Happy” was one of my favourite books of 2021 and I even bought further copies for friends and relatives. It had been my only Bramley book read but was jumping for joy (not literally, I don’t want to break a hip) when this new ones came my way.
I find all the villages I’m these so-called “happily-ever-after” books just sound idyllic, and Merle Bay is no different. Can I just live in a rom-com novel already?
I did get a little confused at first with the flicking between narrative viewpoints, but once they started going together, I quickly got on top of it and it flowed nicely.
This is more serious than the other book I’ve read, much more grown-up with some very serious conversations. There’s talk of cancer, surgery, money worries affairs, blackmail, nudity, death, grieving, but they’re dealt with in a sensitive manner.
It really warms you up; it’s joyful and uplifting and above all, no matter how bad things may seem, there’s always a positive, and things will always work out the way they’re meant to.
It is a love story at heart, but for me, rather than a romantic love, it’s a love for our friends and for ourselves.
