Dead Against Her is the first novel in months I can say I literally could not put down. (I read this book while cleaning the house, tablet on every available surface.) Bree is back and busier than ever as the past always rears its ugly head. Bree is called in for a welfare check by a worried neighbor to find the murdered bodies of her disgraced former deputy and his elderly mom. To make matters worse, the threats on Bree are escalating and someone has launched deepfake videos of Bree as revenge. The pages fly by as Bree’s case twists and turns in nonstop suspense for another addicting read from Ms. Leigh. Can I just say fan girl here? My voluntary, unbiased review is based upon a review copy from NetGalley.
Bree Taggart has her work cut out for her in this book (5th in the series ) juggling, double homicide, raising her sisters kids, dealing with a fake porn scandal, and her relationship with Matt. There is also an appearance from Morgan Dane( another one of Leigh's heroines) and a budding romance between Cady and Todd. All in all, this book gives you a little of everything and delivers a great story!
Thank you NetGalley, Melinda Leigh and the publishers for the ARC for an honest review. #NeTGalley #DeadAgainstHer
I received an arc from NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Very intriguing romantic suspense and the storyline was told beautifully.
Great read and one I would recommend to others.
I’m getting a little behind in this series, and jumped ahead to this one. I was a little lost at first, but soon caught up to what I had missed in Bree Taggert’s world. This time around, our intrepid Sheriff catches a call from a concerned individual regarding the well being of his elderly neighbor. On her arrival, a quick look around reveals things are quiet, a little too quiet. As she enters the home, the smell hits her immediately, and she cringes, believing the old woman died alone of natural causes. But the sight she finds stops her short. There are two individuals, tied to chairs facing one another, and both have been shot. As she surveys the scene, she realizes that one of the victims is none other than Deputy Eugene Oscar, who was recently fired from the Sheriff’s Department because of Bree.
Good read in a good suspense series. Didn’t have any problems having missed a couple of books in the series, but plan got back and catch up. Recommended.
Melinda Leigh delivers again. This is the series of Bree who is the sheriff in a small town. Yes, it's a series and you'll want to read them all to get the background just because they are all so good. However, it can be read stand-alone. Bree goes out on a wellness check and finds her former deputy - one she forced out because of his actions - murdered and his mother also. She and her investigator and love interest, Matt, work together to solve the murder. Bree herself is being attacked on the deep web with scandalous images that reach the public. Someone is also threatening her but she must concentrate on solving the double murder. So many events happening and some that could end her career.
I highly recommend this book. It's fast-paced, interesting, with good characters, I love Bree and Matt’s dynamics, plus you never get bored and never want to put it down. Another winner.
Thank you, Melinda Leigh, NetGalley, and Montlake publishers for allowing me to give my honest opinion with this eARC. Yes, read it!
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed catching up with sheriff Bree Taggert and her family again. Seeing how she’s grown with her family and commanding change in the department is amazing and I look forward to the next one
She has done it again!
For fans of Melinda Leigh, book #5 in the Bree Taggart series delivers.
As the story twists and turns, how much damage will be inflicted on Bree, to her reputation, career and family, how close will physical danger come as she and and Matt Flynn pair up again to solve a double murder. With all that Bree is faced with, one thing is crystal clear, yet again, her priorities are changing and she will fight for what is most important to her.
We get to see more of Deputy Todd in this book, but will he survive to have his own happy ending with Cady?
If like me you have read each series as it has been released, you will love the cross over yet again with the appearance of Morgan Dane and Lance Kruger.
Brilliant story from the next instalment of the Bree series. Even better that Morgan Dane and Lance made an appearance! Although part of a series east to read as a stand-alone the story is so good!!
Leigh keeps the tension and momentum going in this sixth Bree Taggert book. Enough back story is included to make this stand alone, but series fans won’t be bogged down. Along with solving the opening double-murder, Sheriff Taggert is faced with increasing violent and sexualized cyber attacks. Leigh keeps the reader guessing as she weaves the threads into a high-adrenalin ending. I enjoyed the cameo appearance of Morgan Dane and appreciated the light shone on deepfake revenge porn as the latest “advancement” in harassing and bullying women. Recommended.
The pace of this book is set from the very beginning as a gripping thriller. The descriptions of the setting and the crime paint a clear picture in the reader's mind. I haven't read the first four books of the Bree Taggert series but you can read this book as a stand alone and still find all the characters very compelling. Seeing Bree coming to terms with balancing work life and her relationships was interesting.Another aspect that I really enjoyed were the involvement of pets. It can be clearly seen with each interaction that the author loves animals.
This review is based on an ARC of Dead Against Her which I received courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher.
3.5 stars! Bree was faced with solving a double homicide, one she was a bit too close to. I really enjoyed this story. I loved the twists and turns and the subplot that affected Bree’s ability to work on the case added an extra layer. Matt and Todd were great side characters as well. Overall, it was a solid thriller with a small dash of pre-existing romance which I very much enjoyed.

I really enjoyed this book by Melinda Leigh. It was very interesting and I would definitely recommend this book to anyone.
Talk about an edge-of-your-seat, page-turner of a thriller! Dead Against Her, the fifth book in Melinda Leigh's Bree Taggert series more than fits the bill. This is a fast-paced, complex story that had my heart racing in some of the scenes. Sheriff Bree Taggert really had her hands full in this book. I enjoyed the advancement of Bree's relationship with Criminal Investigator Matt Flynn. I love these two as a couple. This storyline is going to be hard to beat in Bree Taggert's next adventure but I have every confidence that author Melinda Leigh will accomplish just that.
Melinda Leigh delivered again! Not surprisingly, this latest in the Sheriff Bree Taggert saga was a great thriller with lots of good and bad guys.
Ms. Leigh has the ability to lead you so far afield toward one motive and then effortlessly ( it seems) bring us back to the real motivation and killer behind events.
Filled with likable real characters that struggle with real world problems - job, children, relationship, politics, etc. Bree juggles lots of balls and sometimes misses some, as we all do. That’s one of the things I most enjoy about this series.
To include a little guest appearance by Morgan Dane and Lance Kruger only serves to fill out the story and my enjoyment.
One troubling issue did cross my
mind - is this the last in the Bree Taggert line up? I hope not. One saving grace is I think ML might be opening another with Cady Flynn and Todd Howard. I hope so.
Thank you Net Galley for another great ARC.
This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, Montlake and by #NetGalley. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Cunning, insightful, suspenseful and thrilling. This one was pack to the brim.
Another solid book by Melinda Leigh. This is the 5th book in the Bree Taggert series. Bree has been receiving disturbing threats while trying to solve a double homicide. People start questioning her if there is a conflict of interest and about her character. As she removes herself from the case, one of her chief deputy goes missing. Bree's relationship with her boyfriend who is hired by the county as an investigator comes to light. Quick read. Good story plot with some twists in there!
I swear this series gets better with each book. You probably don't have to read the previous books in the series to figure it all out as each story focuses on a new crime to be solved, but it does have all the same characters, each with their own back story that would help you understand them better.
In this case, Sheriff Bree Taggert seems to be the target as she investigates a double homicide. Figuring out the who, what, where, when and why moves very quickly. She and Matt investigate along with her deputies, including deputy Harvey, who we learn much more about. He's been one of the few loyal members of the sheriff's dept since Bree has been appointed Sheriff, and I really liked learning more about him. I don't want to give anything away, so all I can really say is that this was a fast paced, interesting story that held my attention. I also love it when characters from previous series crossover like they did in this story.
I would absolutely recommend this book, but I would also urge you to start with the first book if you haven't already.

Another Awesome book in the series!
The latest in the Bree Taggert series was as great as the other 4 books. I love Melinda Leigh's writing style and the character development. Each book in the series uncovers new layers to the characters you've come to know and love with a new case to solve. Dead Against Her finds Bree Taggert trying to solve a double murder while being attacked personally along the way. The threats hit close to home and Bree needs the help of her friends, co- workers, and family.
If you haven't read the Bree Taggert series, I can't recommend it highly enough. I'm always sad when I finish the latest book because I know I'll be waiting a bit for the next. I was lucky to get an early copy to read from Net Galley which made me so happy! A truly enjoyable book that I rated 5 stars!
A great series and you've got to love that dogs are an important part of the team and family! Solid mystery with an engaging cast of characters and mysteries/intrigue past and present colliding - some solid action and tense moments! Love the focus on dog rescue and dogs being treated with respect and love throughout - puts this over the edge beyond a winner of a series!
Another winner for Melinda Leigh. In the latest installment of the Bree Taggert series, Bree and Matt investigate a double murder that blossoms into much more. Lots of mystery and suspense as is usual for the author. Bree continues to fight through the politics of her job and clean up the messes from previous sheriffs. We get an appearance from Morgan Dane from Leigh's other series which is highly recommended as well. We get to see Bree and Matt solidify their relationship as Bree learns more about balancing work, kids, and love.
