Dead Against Her will suck you in from the very first chapter!! The story begins with the killing of a former sheriff and his mother but why and who's responsible? Is it linked to the release of disturbing fake videos of the new sheriff, Bree Taggert??

A great whodunit page turner that will keep you guessing with great characters that will pull at your emotions as you want justice for Bree for the injustices she is occurring as well as to find out who was responsible for the murders!!

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you #NetGalley for my e-arc copy of #DeadAgainstHer by #MelindaLeigh in exchange for my honest review.

This was my first time reading anything by Leigh, even though Dead Against Her is book #5 in the Bree Taggert series.
With a lot of characters I really didn’t feel as if I was missing out on any of the backstory from the previous books in this series. I would say you can easily read this one as a stand alone, helped mainly by the way Leigh gave enough explanation and description needed even with the vast amount of characters.

I found this novel to be fast paced and full of twists that just keep you guessing and has left me wanting to to read more and see how much more Leigh can bring.

Four out of the five stars from me for this police procedural novel.

Dead Against Her is published on 17th May 2022

I really enjoyed this installment of the series, as Bree Taggart has become one of my favorite "crimesolvers." Leigh keeps readers interested, as she develops Bree's character more with each novel. Another quick entertaining read!

A really great story with lots of options for how this could turn out and who is to blame. You stay on tenterhooks for large portions of the book.

This was the first Bree Taggert book I’ve read and although it can be a stand alone I feel I would have got a better feel had I read previous books. That being said, I did enjoy it, read in a couple of days, Bree is a small town sheriff who doesn’t take any rubbish, I love a good strong female lead and she has her fair share of strife to deal with!
A fast paced, well thought out story you won’t be disappointed with

Precisely the fast-paced, gripping storyline you anticipate from a writer as practised and popular as Melinda Leigh. Our heroine is strong and successful, yet suffers all the same doubts as the rest of us and here is battling not only to solve a double murder, but has to deal with the stress of an horrific smear campaign, one that could destroy her career and her family's wellbeing. An interesting look at misogyny and the rights of free speech in America today, you will be both infuriated and inspired as the story progresses.

Thank you Netgalley and Montlake for the chance to read an advance copy of Dead against her (Bree Taggert #5 ) by Melinda Leigh! This is one of those series that I grab as soon as I see it and usually can just settle down and read it quickly. This definitely fit in that category. Bree is called to murder scene at a farmhouse, where she discovers the bodies of her former deputy and his mother. As she is trying to solve their murders, someone targets Bree to destroy her reputation and her relationship with criminal investigator Matt Flynn. But there is one thing they don't figure on...Bree will not back down. I think this is a fabulous series, and suggest reading it from the start, however the author does include background so they can be read as stand alones.

Bree is back with bang and it looks like her former deputy is still causing problems for her. Only this time he went and got himself killed and now she has to deal with the aftermath. Add in politics, misogyny and the old boy network, harassment and disgusting deepfakes, Bree and Matt have their hands full.

Who hated Oscar and/or his mother enough to kill them in such a fashion? Any why is Bree being set up to take the fall?

With the conflict of interest over Oscar, Bree has to hand over the investigation but that doesn't stop the harassment and when it teeters into her private life and affects her nephew, Bree won't take it anymore and decides to fight back but will it be too late?

Fast-paced, highly emotive, and echoing with current events, where women's bodies are seen as public property and everyone has a say in what happens to it. The misogyny and double standards are everywhere and the deepfakes used against Bree are highly disturbing but sadly all too believable.

I was kept guessing till almost the bog reveal when I had my big "AHA" moment. I had my heart in my mouth at times cos one of my favourite background characters got into major hot water and I really thought "oh no this is it". Always the sign of a good book when no character is safe!

Never gets old or stale and the characters are so lifelike. I would love to have a bestie like Dana, she is awesomesauce. I heartily enjoyed the story and am so excited no that the whole "romance" is out in the open.

I voluntarily read an ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I’m new to the Bree Taggart series of books but now I’ve read one I will be looking out for more.

When a former police officer is found dead next to his elderly mother it is down to Bree Taggart to investigate the murders.

Featuring disgruntled former colleagues, deep fake pornography and incels this is small town America meeting the modern world. And it’s definitely a page turner.

Newly appointed ,and first woman, sheriff Brett Taggart is called out to the murder of a man she dismissed from her team and his mother. She is assisted by Investigator Matt Flynn, a relationship well developed in the story. Having an unbiased sheriff who is from outside the area and a woman challenges existing methods of operating. That means there are many criminal and extremist political groups who are Dead Against Her which presumably causes the book’s title. The story is not as simple as two murders. One of the deputy sheriffs is attacked, there is an orchestrated campaign against Brett on line and she is targeted by local officials. The book gathers pace as it unfolds and has a satisfying climax. This is well written, cleverly constructed and designed to engage readers. I recommend it.

A page turner that you willn't be able to put down. A double homicide, a former cop and internet threats. The characters will keep you wondering who done it and why.

Dead Against Her is the fifth book in Melinda Leigh’s Bree Taggert Series. This is a romantic suspense novel (heavy on the suspense) with a great storyline and fantastic characters. It is a slow burn romance between Bree Taggert, the heroine and Matt Flynn, the hero, that builds throughout the series.

Sheriff Bree Taggert is learning that policing and the resulting politics in the small community of Grey’s Hollow often feels like she is pushed two step back for every step or gain she has made forward. When she is called in to do a wellness check for an elder widow, she discovers a brutal double homicide involving a corrupt former deputy. With the help of criminal investigator Matt Flynn, Bree quickly learns that the corrupt deputy had many enemies, but when she becomes the focus of public smear campaign, will she and Matt be able to solved the murders and find missing chief deputy Harvey before its too late? Read it and find out!

This is another great addition to the Leigh’s Bree Taggert Series. I love how this phenomenal writer uses each story to portray the growing relationship between Matt and Bree and the compromises each has to make in order to balance their work, family and love.

The storyline and the amazing cast of secondary characters draws the reader in and leave you craving more. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I really hope to see more regarding Cady, Matt’s sister and Todd, the chief deputy and the relationship blooming between them.

This is a voluntary review of a reader’s advance copy received from netgalley.

Sheriff Bree Taggert is happy to carry out some of Randolph County Sheriff's Department's smaller tasks for her deputies as they all work hard for her, which is why she finds herself doing a welfare check on her way home from work. The scene which greets her is shocking and complex with two dead bodies, one of whom Bree is horrified to realise is all too familiar.

Bree's boyfriend, Criminal Investigator Matt Flynn, joins her team as and when he's needed and as things begin to get very personal very quickly,  with her reputation on the line, she is glad to have him nearby. When a vital member of the team goes missing the chances of a successful outcome are dramatically reduced. Can Bree and her remaining team find their colleague in time or will the killer prevail?

This is the fifth in the Bree Taggart series and she is a familiar and well worked main protagonist with a great group around her. This didn't quite grab and keep my attention as much as previous books but the final few chapters definitely made up for that. I hope there will be more to come from this brilliant author before too long.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is a good addition to a great series.

I just love the Bree Taggert series! Melinda Leigh consistently delivers fast paced thrillers with great characters. I couldn't put it down, though admittedly after several books I am pretty invested in these characters and want to see what happens. Loved it.

LOVED it!!! This was probably the best books in the series so far. It's hard to judge because I love the Bree Taggert Series and the books never disappoint. So many twists and turns, surprises around every corner. Bree is one tough lady. She handled everything perfectly and didn't kill anyone. I'm pretty sure she wanted to after all the penis pics and the porn video. The sad part was that people actually believed it was her. There were some really sick people in this book. The way they torment Sheriff Taggert was horrible. Didn't feel bad for what ended up happening to them. I never suspected who the mastermind behind everything was, until it was finally revealed. Money is always the root behind evil. Dana and Bree are the perfect "parents" for Kayla and Luke. I would LOVE a Dana in my life. Her food always sounds amazing. I think Matt needs to set up a camera to catch Greta during her escape routine. I can't wait to see her on the job, Brody will be glad to finally get rid of her. Loved seeing Morgan Dane make an appearance. The dress at the end, with the tattoo reveal, definitely gave Bree the last word. Bree and her team has job security with all the murders that keep happening around them in their quiet little town. Brody proved he's still a superhero and continues to help find people.

Definitely recommend the book and all the previous one in the series. I can't wait to see what's next for Bree and Matt. Loved the characters, story and writing style. Look forward to reading more books by the author.

I am a huge Melinda Leigh fan!

Indeed I have read all of her books and purchased them to keep forever even though they are free to me as part of the Kindle Unlimited subscription! Why? Because I love her books and know I will be reading them again once I have forgotten about their plot :).

This book is the 5th of the Bree Taggert series and in my opinion deserves to be read in order as her character development is simply a delight to follow. To the point that reading this book was like revisiting a long time friend and her family as well as her lovely boyfriend Matt and his adorable dogs. The plot is easily followed, the background scenes beautifully written. Once again a lovely story full of emotions and action packed.

Would highly recommend and can’t wait for the next book of the series already! :)
