I was pleasantly surprised to realize that this was a quick novella AND a Christmas story to get me in the mood for Christmas. Cooper has been divorced for a year and his well-meaning albeit sneaky parents have decided that TONIGHT! they should help him get out and “score with the ladies”. As obnoxious as that might sound, things take a turn for the better when Cooper and his wingman parents run into Nora, an old family friend that they cleverly leave Cooper alone with at the Dirty Beaver bar.
This novella had all the set-up for me and enticement that something spicy or swoony might happen, but I was let down by two things.
1) Nora is the best-friend of Dealia, Cooper’s ex-wife. In fiction this plot can work, but unfortunately my head was stuck in reality where I cannot imagine if my best friend attempted to hook up with my ex without my knowing. Girl code ranks too high for me.
2) Without spoiling it, I hated being left in a cliff-hanger. I literally said, “What?!” after reading the final two sentences.
I did not realize this was meant to be an intrigue into Quinn’s next book, so I’m hopeful the ending and set-up with the ex’s best friend will be resolved. But again, I hate a cliff-hanger leaving me feeling like the character just strayed from his true purpose. Altogether I enjoyed Quinn’s writing style and felt that I quickly got a glimpse into the characters or Cooper and Nora. The chemistry between them was definitely what won me over in the end. Thanks to NetGalley, Montlake, and Amazon for this ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

I was already hyped for The Reunion but after reading this really fun, holiday novella that's basically the back story before that (or at least one of them) I'm more hyped than ever! Considering this could be classed as taboo, it warmed my heart and I really think we're gonna see one heck of a grovel. That said, I really liked how Cooper and Nora had more of a connection than just being his ex-wife's best friend. It took a bit of the sting out of the girl code violation honestly. As usual, I barely found a fault with this aside from it not being long enough. Thank you to Montlake and Netgalley for the ARC of this. My review is unbiased and all opinions are my own.

So cute!

This was a great prequel to Meghan Quinn's upcoming book The Reunion. Granted, I read that book first, but since I already knew the characters, it was a win for me! I think I would have enjoyed it either way but I loved knowing how the backstory of their relationship went down! It's a short and sweet read that is the perfect backdrop to start The Reunion (which I also loved!).

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the earc in return for an honest review.

“The One Night” by Meghan Quinn is a fun holiday season novella following Cooper Chance and his meet-cute with Nora. This story is a teaser/cliffhanger to continue in a future publication.
Cooper is a recently-divorced man, trying to find the real person inside while battling the emotional landscape of starting over and being vulnerable again. His parents, in a ploy to help, insist on being his Wingmen to help him find a new love interest.
Nora is an overworked baker, running her family’s bakery with no time for a personal life. She happens to be at the bar when Cooper and his parents burst on the scene to interrupt her planned solitude of solo drinking. She happens to know the Chance family… quite well.
Dealia, the “ghost” of the story, haunts both of these potential lovers — to one, she is the ex-wife. To the other, a best friend. Will this ghost stand between these two, or will their passion flame burn a new course together?!

Overall, The One Night is a cute, quick read. I loved the switched points of view, and I enjoyed that the moments/scenes are detailed, expanded. Their conversation is witty, the chemistry between them comes through easily, and their adventure is wholly believable (it could happen to you too!). Also, absolutely adorable how Cooper’s parents insert themselves; while they play a minor part they do set the chain of events in motion.
I can’t wait to read the follow-on story to see how Cooper and Nora’s saga concludes. I’m cheering for a happy ending to the story that started The One Night!

One first sentence into the book and I felt sold. It's not really long story, it's definitely a prologue for smth bigger what will come...
and I really cannot wait for it

Cooper, Nora... and parents gave me amazing time! I devoured tjis short story in the soeed of light. It has typical author's humor, I could only love the characters from the beginning.

One Night is a short story perfect amd You cannot miss it! Counting down the days until Reunion.

Flipping heck, I need more!! I need Nora and Cooper to get their happy ever after. It cannot be a one and done. I need more Cooper Chance (and most definitely more Peggy and Martin, because his parents were a hoot). Fab writing - as always, entertaining characters, and an addictive storyline. Oh and, lots of chemistry and passion. It would appear that the only people who have a problem with Nora and Cooper being together are Nora and Cooper (and maybe Cooper’s ex wife - who happens to be Nora’s best friend - I’m only surmising that though, I could be wrong). It would make for a heck of a story. Please, please, please someone tell me this is a prequel. In my head there is another book. Please let me be right. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.

That one night indeed! Cooper is trying to move on from his past. It’s been a year but he’s in a funk. He’s not sure which direction he wants his life to go, so his parents decide to get him out to have fun for a night. While out, he runs into an old friend, the drinks keep coming and inhibitions keep leaving.

When he realizes his monumental mistake, instead of facing the facts, he runs. This is a novella and prequel to The Reunion; which we hopefully find out the reactions of Nora, Cooper, their parents and Dealia. It’s a twisted tangled web that already leaves you wanting more.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake for the ARC preview of The One Night. I’m sharing my review voluntarily. This is an interesting premise that I went into a little skeptically. Sleeping with the best friend of an ex is a moral gray area at best for me. But the approach and the connection totally changed my view. I was rooting for Cooper and Nora even if I felt a little conflicted. Like all Meghan Quinn books, the dialogue is fun, the bedroom scenes are hot and the story is enticing. I can’t wait for the release of this book so I can read the conclusion. I anticipate some angst and great resolution.

Sweet, broody and hilarious, The One Night is a fun little holiday treat.

Fueled by a perfectly embarrassing scenario, Cooper and Nora have the wonderful grump-sunshine dynamics that I'm a complete sucker for. Their interactions, rapport and chemistry is so entertaining to read, with a great balance of sass, vulnerability and steam. A wonderful tease for the Reunion, that will leave you wanting more.

4.5 stars and a slice of cake

The One Night was a cute, quick read. I like Meghan Quinn's writing style. The dialogue is fun. The characters were interesting and I definitely want to know more about them! The only thing I don't like about this is that it is a novella and ends abruptly. I'm going to have to find out where these characters show up next and find out what happens to them! I would definitely recommend this author and will happily look for more from her.

This was a fun novella of one night that Cooper and Nora share. . They have a complicated history (knowing each other from growing up in addition Nora is Cooper’s ex-wife’s best friend) but there are a lot of funny, sweet and steamy aspects to his book. This was a great quick read and I am looking forward to their continued story in the upcoming book The Reunion.

The One Night is a novella about Cooper and although a rather quick read, it does pack a punch and is quite entertaining but also heartwarming!
Cooper has been divorced for a year and is down in the dumps. His parents want to be his “wingmen”, for want of a better word, to try and find him a nice girl, lol. Needless to say Cooper isn’t quite sure how to deal with them, but he goes along with them anyway. When he sees Nora, the banter is great and the way they get along is wonderful. However Nora is his ex-wife’s best friend! Conundrum or what?
This was definitely a good start to what I am sure will be a promising new series to come.

The One Night is a RomCom Holiday novella which involves meddling parents, a chance encounter between old acquaintances and a one night stand…or is it? 😉

As expected for a novella – this was a fast, fun little holiday treat (with a side of steam). Cooper and Nora were a fun combination, him as a grump with a wounded heart, her as a spunky lead. I liked the interactions between them and was definitely left wanting more. The ending made me think perhaps there is more to come…? (I wouldn’t mind a full length novel, because I’m definitely curious how things turn out for them).

This was exactly what a novella should be: fun, fast and charming – leaving you wondering if there might be more to come.

Thank you to NetGalley and Montlake Pub for the chance to read an early copy – all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I love Meghan Quinn.

Cooper Chance is newly divorced. His amazing parents takes him to many bars in hopes to get him out of this funk he's been in recently.
He is not feeling this none whatsoever. Can this possibly solve his issues?
Until he runs into Nora McHale.

Nora is not here to look for the love of her life. Having a rough day at her bakery she needs to cut loose a bit.
And if she was in hopes of meeting someone Cooper would be the last person she would want to come.in close quarters with. Because well it's her best friends ex-husband.

Cooper and Nora certainly are a major no for each. I mean it is right? Isn't it like some code?
You can not date your best friends ex-husband! Well after a night of complete laughter, and flirtatious fun at the bar these two can not hide the insane magnetism between them.
Could this be the start of something?

I've gotta say... Quinn knows how to pull the reader into the story and keep them interested.
Her writing style is just insane.
This book was a delightful read I couldn't love this story more if I tried.
I completely ate this story up of Cooper and Nora!
And the secondary characters made it so much sweeter.
I was so happy with the journey of these characters.
A sweet, swoon worthy, funny relatable romance with all the feel good feels.
This story was so emotionally beautiful. I could just go on and on.
I freaking loved the connection these two had. It made me tingle inside..... Gawd! It was great!
An absolute favorite of mine! And Quinn seriously outdid herself with this sweet brilliant story!
I want more of Cooper!
As soon as I seen this egalley I immediately started it.
Here it is 6am and I'm writing this review.
Seriously couldn't put this book down!

<b>The One Night by Meghan Quinn is a sweet and swoony novella in full Christmas spirit. Cooper was a bit brooding, a bit grumpy and whole lot of charismatic. Nora was a very colourful heroine with vibrant personality. The night that began with Cooper's parents trying to help their divorcee son to find a partner for a sexy night ended up in his ex wife's best friend Nora's bakery with some sizzling hot moments. This night is the beginning and I cannot wait for more. It was cute. It was flirty. It was entertaining.</b>

I reviewed an early copy voluntarily received from Montlake and Netgalley

First of all I love Meghan Quinn’s writing! Every time I read one of her books I am completely captivated from the first chapter! This one was no different! But now I need more!!! This took me less than an hour to read and I am desperate to see how it ends! I am rooting for Nora and Cooper!!!

This was amazing until I realized it was a novella. I wanted more. Nora and Cooper were wonderful and I wanted to get more of their story. So disappointed that this wasn’t a full novel. I’ll have to do some research to see if there is a continuation because I’ve never read this authors work before but I really hope there is.
