This story is told over dual timelines. The characters are very interesting. The storyline felt so believable. A good thriller
J.D. Pullan's debut novel is better than anything by the authors who have found fame in her chosen genre. She has an extraordinary talent. The labyrinthine plot shifts backwards and forwards between the heatwave of 1976 and the summer of 2010. Both eras captured with perfect precision. The characters cry out for empathy as the story gradually unfolds. There are some very cleverly placed red herrings amongst the well-drawn suspects. The Cornish setting (an area I grew up near) is evocatively brought to life, both as a place of beauty, and a sinister backdrop as the tension builds. Another book from this author can't come soon enough for me.
What would you do if you were suddenly reminded of something you witnessed as a young child, but had only just realised the terrible significance of what you saw? Fascinating… A beautiful story that captures your attention and your heart from beginning to end.
One of my favorite books this year ! Spellbinding mystery that was interesting and logical. I enjoyed the dual time periods of 1977 and 2020.
Cyres and 3 girlfriends go on an extended camping trip. They are all around 18 years old. The meet up with some local boys for partying and drinking. Cyres finds herself falling for John even tho she has a steady boyfriend back home. This causes much problems with Vicki, her friend, who also has an interest in John. Cyres goes to buy everyone ice cream and never returns.
Emily is only 6 years old. Her family is also vacationing there and she and her sister Debbie are off playing. Emily meets Cyres and thinks that she is as beautiful as a mermaid. The two chat a little and Emily gets a shell bracelet from Cyres. She hides on her sister and watches and overhears and argument between Cyres and someone else. The Cyres has vanished !
After 33 years pass Emily still has the bracelet. Her family is at the same campground and she decides she must do everything in her power to remember details of that day and solve the mystery.
Thank you NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this excellent book !
Emily and her family holiday in the same place in Cornwall where she had a holiday with her parents and sister as a six-year-old. This brings back memories of an incident where an attractive girl called Cerys had vanished. Emily tells the DI who is re-investigating the cold case her recollections of the day which as it was Emily's sixth birthday have stuck in her memory. Instead of leaving it at that Emily starts to talk to people who were around at the time but is she stirring up trouble that could put herself her husband, her family, and even her job at risk? An enjoyable read but I found the character of Emily annoying at times.
I'm Going to Find You is about Emily who sees something when she was a child but doesn't fully understand the importance. Years later she is jarred back to the day and becomes focused on telling what she knows, This story goes from the present to past in telling the story. Emily will put everything she holds dear on the line to solve what happened that day when she was a child.
This was a good book overall. It is well-written and the characters are interesting, however, it lacked the grip-factor and it won’t be memorable for me.
I liked this. What happened to Cerys Morgan 34 years ago? That is what Emily sets out to find after a long-ago memory resurfaces. Emily was camping with Cerys and saw something that wasn't important at the time. Characters were good, enjoyed the dual timeline and story was good. I liked Emily, but found some of her hair-brained decisions a little hard to take. Overall, a nice, quick read!
This dual timeline thriller hooked me early on but didn’t hold my interest much longer than half way through. Without giving any spoilers I can only say that all the ridiculous choices that Emily made were enough to make a Saint swear ( as my mum would have said) so my patience as a none Saint didn’t hold up well!
I'm Going to Find You is a dual timeline story, dripping with tension and suspense from the very beginning. In 2010, Emily, her husband and their two small children are on vacation in beautiful Cornwall when Emily sees something that changes her life. She remembers a scene of her childhood vividly with the exception of a few details a child may not take in or realize the significance of at the time. It is so startling she cannot let go and her husband suggests she go to the police with it. That is still not enough. She becomes obsessed with searching for answers and therefore resorts to deception upon deception and poor choices.
Thirty four years ago in Cornwall, beautiful young Cerys Morgan goes camping with her three close friends. They meet several young men with who they form friendships as well as others at the campsite. Soon Cerys disappears without a trace and her friends and family are heartbroken. The case grows cold.
But someone has the answer.
Those who enjoy tense thrillers, read this nail biter. The writing is clever and smart and the characters have depth. The title could be read and understood different ways. It was so riveting and enticing I read it in one sitting, practically consumed until the end. And what an end!
My sincere thank you to Matador and NetGalley for the privilege of reading this unmissable book!
