Too much switching from past to present and so many characters who all seems to be involved in some way I found myself getting lost often and overwhelmed with the content. Needed a board and pins like the main character!

A great book

Fiona Barton is a huge favourite of mine and I always have huge expectations of her books. I haven't been disappointed yet and this book continued the trend. Lots of twists and turns, and plenty happening, all brought together by a hugely likable investigating MC.

Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for allowing me an early look at this brilliant book in exchange for an honest review.

Thoroughly decent read, with a few twists along the way.
No hesitation is recommending if this is your preferred genre.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the ARC.

Detective Inspector Elsie King is on extended leave after recovering from surgery and dealing with the after affects of her cancer treatment. She now spends her days watching the growing tensions in her small seaside town of Ebbing - the weekenders renovating old bungalows into luxury homes and the locals resentful of the changes.

When local man Charlie goes missing and two teenagers overdose at a music festival Elsie is drawn back into her detective work and starts digging for answers. It may be a small town but it is filled with secrets that are darker than Elsie could have ever imagined.

A great mystery thriller with a list of suspects that had me guessing until the end.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

Fiona Barton always delivers, and this is no exception. Fast paced and riveting, and I thought this described 'small town' mentality very well. Many thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review.

The blurb of this book sounded very interesting and I was in the mood for a good detective novel but unfortunately this book failed to keep my interest once I started it. I read about 50% of the book but I couldn’t get invested in the mystery nor the characters. So this is a dnf at 50%

Local Gone Missing is a gripping psychological thriller based in a small town called Ebbing. Elise King has moved to the town following a relationship breakdown and cancer diagnosis. When local man Charlie Perry disappears after a controversial music festival she can’t help but put her professional skills to good use. There are a host of interesting characters introduced in this novel who I hope to see agin in future books.
The story will keep you engaged and the twists are many and unpredictable. A fantastic crime novel from a talented writer.

This was a DNF for me sadly I couldn't engage with the characters so I will not review publicly as I feel that is unfair for a book I didn't finish.

I have loved all of this author's work and this was no exception!
I really do love a murder mystery to curl up with on a fresh autumn day
This book was a bit of a slow burner to start with, but once the introductions to the characters had happened, the novel really came into its own and I thoroughly became invested in the novel and immersed myself into the missing person!
I loved Ellie King, she is one of my favourite literacy characters. I became fully taken in with her story.
The book was full of suspense and I was so satisfied with the ending.
I thoroughly recommend this book.

Enjoyable read but not amazing. Seemed a bit slow at the beginning and I struggled to stay interested. However, the storyline picked up and I ended up liking the book. Can’t say I “loved” any of the main characters.

Family secrets fester in this small town twisty thriller. DI Elise King is supposed to be resting on sick leave, recovering from breast cancer. But when two teens end up in hospital and popular local man, Charlie goes missing, Elise starts digging and uncovers hidden secrets. A riveting mystery.

Although this was a good read, in my opinion it wasn't one of the best from Fiona Barton. It just seemed a little slow in places but was a good story that kept me guessing. Love the backdrop and the characters and as always, love her style of writing.

Definitely worth a read but sadly not as good as her other books.

Thank you Netgalley.

I requested Local Gone Missing from NetGalley as I'm a huge fan of Barton's previous books. I very much enjoyed The Widow, and her other books were excellent. After picking up Local Gone Missing, I immediately noticed that the writing seemed a bit off. I didn't think it matched up with Barton's previous work, and I didn't manage to get into it or to connect to the characters as I did in her previous books. I don't think the timelines worked at all, as there was a lot of flashing back and forth, and I became quite confused at times, and I found myself unable to get used to any of the points of view before being thrown elsewhere. I didn't enjoy Local Gone Missing and I'm very disappointed.

I loved the atmosphere of this small town thriller from Fiona Barton. Our detective, Elise King, has been unwell and it’s thrown her career into question. She’s just moved to a small seaside town called Ebbing in the hope of time to relax, but she also needs to think about what she wants next for her life,
Elise King moves into the sleepy seaside town of Ebbing. Illness has thrown her career as a successful detective into doubt, but no matter how hard she tries to relax and recuperate, she knows that something isn't right.
However, she soon finds out that, what looks like an idyllic seaside town on the surface, is hiding a lot of
tension and conflict underneath. There’s a division between new weekenders, who are renovating old homes and driving up the house prices. There are people who’ve lived in Ebbing all their lives who are full of resentment about the changes. I felt this conflict was described very well and really rang true when I thought about some of the Cornish communities I’ve spent time in. This undercurrent of aggression seems to rise to the surface one night as two teenagers are taken to hospital and a local man goes missing. Elise starts to ask questions but finds the locals clam up and aren’t very keen on this outsider asking questions. I loved how we heard from other characters, including Charlie the missing man and a lady called Dee who cleans for several people in the village. Dee is brilliant because she sees a lot more than her employer thinks she does. I found it interesting how the older villagers lives were so intertwined. This was an entertaining police procedural with an interesting central character.

I have loved Fiona Barton's previous novels but this one didn't sit with me. It started out interesting and good but it slowed down 45% in extremely in my opinion. It picked up in the last half of the book and I enjoyed finally finding out the who done it of the story.

Thanks to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book. A good thriller, with a good storyline and enough suspense to hold my attention to the end. My first book by this author and I found the writing and characters to be very good. An engaging read that I would recommend!
