I enjoyed this story with all of the characters. The main characters were
Lily and her parents.
Lily is determined to solve there problem. She want to go see the winter festival in town. But it is snowing and the ground is covered in snow and there no way to get there.
This was a cute story to read. It had action and adventure throughout. It had a few giggles within. My children like it a lot. Also the illustrations want along with the story and were quite colorful.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.
This is such a sweet book of perseverance, kindness, confidence and conviction. I love that the book encourages young ones to follow dreams, even if they're not the 'normal' or 'acceptable' route to follow. I love the ingenuity and really found this a sweet book.
This is a funny little kids book about chickens skiing. I will definitely be reading more of Willingham in the future.
I'm unsure what's happened with my version but there is no pictures, just black strips and the text is all together with no spaces making it nonreadable?!
The second book in this series from Laura Willingham, "Chickens Don't Ski!" features colorful simple illustrations that will appeal to younger kids. The illustrations lend themselves to non-readers making up their own story, talking about what they think happens next, and identifying parts of the illustrations.
The text tells the story of a family that overcomes a small challenge (making it to the Winter Festival through the snow) by innovation and perseverance, but don't worry -- there's no moralizing. Just a cute story.
One caution for parents: Young Lucy is eager to attend the festival because she misses her friends, so if your family has recently experienced school closures, limited contact, or quarantine because of the pandemic, you might want to skip over that part of the text. On the flip side, if you live in an area that is experiencing too much cold weather and snow (like I do!), your little ones might really relate to this.

I received an e-galley of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest.
The title and premise are amusing. The art and storytelling has a charming simplistic nature that would lend itself to a beginning reader book or a kindergarten class read aloud. I read this book to my 5 year old and it did make him laugh out loud.
4/5
I thought that this book had some lovely cute illustrations, they are simple, but fit the story perfectly.
Chickens Don't Ski! is a picture book about some chickens who want to go to the winter festival in town, but it's too far for them to walk so far in the snow - the book has a great theme of determination and it was a good one to read with my daughter as she found it to be quite funny too.
It is 4 stars from me for this one, a nice book, quick to read and easy to follow - highly recommended!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read and review.
This is a cute book about a chicken who is prevented from attending the winter festival because of too much snow. The plucky chick creates some skis so her family can get to the festival. Fun fact - chickens don't ski. This would be a really cute board book.
Although this book lacks professional presentation, it is a cute read. I could really see me two little ones getting into the story!
Seeing other reviews on goodreads I am now realizing that this book was supposed to have text. My copy did not have text. I understood it to be a wordless picture book. My initial reviews sent then do not reflect the written text.
Chickens don't wear skis is a cute picture book about determination. When Lily is told they can't go to the Winter Fest because if the snow, she doesn't give up, she works until, she comes up with a solution. The story is short but entertaining, and the pictures are engaging. I think kids will love it! This is the second book about Lily, so I will have to go back and check out the first one. Thank you to NetGalley for a free ebook ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
A cute, simple story about trying new things, going against the norm, and having fun while giving it your best. Illustrations are no frills and help young readers follow along with the action during read aloud.
Lily is a sweet little chicken whose heart is set on attending the annual Winter Festival in her town of Blue Ridge with her family. She's very excited because she lives far from town and she misses her friends. It begins to snow very heavily so her parents decide that the snow is too deep for them to get there by walking.
Poor Lily is devastated. Does she have to stay home and miss such a fun event and her friends? No way! Using ingenuity and her genius she crafts a way to make it happen. She finds some long pieces of wood in the outside workshop and fashions them into skis which enables her family to traverse the snow. There are a few mishaps along the way and once again it's brave little Lily chick to the rescue.
This is a sweet inspiring story of trying something new, problem solving and never giving up. The illustrations are adorable and simple. I love how Lily's parents support their daughter's cleverness and stick together to give her a wonderful day at the festival. Even though chickens don't ski... in this story they really can and successfully do. The life lesson the author leaves you with is when you fall get back up and go for it!
I love the positive message of the book and I highly recommend it.
Cute little tale about some curious chickens trying to get through the snow storm to their winter festival
Chickens don’t ski but chickens can learn! Lily and her parents won’t be able to go to the Winter Festival because of the deep snow. Resourceful Lily finds wood, fashions skis and even rescues her mother and father after they both fall in the snow. It’s a short, simple story about Lily’s accomplishments and is enhanced by delightful illustrations. A chicken on skis will make all young children smile. 5 stars.

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is an unique children's book with bright cheerful picture and no words. My daughter was able to tell a complete story about winter festival and the chick on skis.
I guess it's true when they say "a picture is worth a thousand words"
Update: the publisher was kind enough to send me the correct version with words. I'll update the review as soon as my daughter reads it.
Lily wants so badly to see her friends at the winter festival in town, but a snowstorm makes walking impossible. Resilient Lily doesn't let that stop her, though! She fashions skis and the family sets off, even though chickens don't ski--yet!
This is a sweet tale about being brave and challenging your expectations of yourself. The story encourages readers to try new things and experiment with possibilities, which is a great message for young readers. The illustrations are super cute too! This would be a fun circle time read for pre-K and early elementary.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
Chickens Don't Ski! is a picture book about some chickens who want to go to the winter festival in town, but it's too far for them to walk in so much snow. Lily, the daughter, decides to craft some skis to carry them into town. Upon their first trial, they discover they aren't great skiers, BUT they did make it all way to town so problem solved! Cute, simple illustrations make this book a good option for very young children.
This is such an adorable tale of a chicken that won't give up. It shows that grit and determination pay off, and was cute to boot! I particularly enjoyed the support the chicken received from the parent chickens, and the purposeful repetition of language while they try something new. Overall, a cute and catchy book for little ones.
The author, we are told, aims at giving her audience "a moment of joy", and that's about the limit here, with this easy reader, designed also to knock preconceptions on the head and encourage a little inventiveness. The simplistic art approaches cuteness for the very young, but the script isn't much more sophisticated, being a downhill adventure for a family of birds potentially snowed out of their local town's Winterfest. Three and a half stars on a good day.
