Laura and Andy are certain that their son Connor comes home close to his curfew, but does he? The following day it doesn’t look good as a teenage girl is missing… Do they trust Connor, or?? What have the post GCSE teens been up to? The story is told from several perspectives but principally by Andy which works well as it helps to deepen the mystery further.
I like the basic premise of the novel which is how far you would be prepared to go for your child. The characterisation especially of the teens is spot on as you witness their boundary testing, risk taking antics which go too far in this case. You feel for Andy and empathise with his panic though he can be annoying from time to time as he’s not exactly subtle! You feel as if you are on a rollercoaster with him as secrets, lies and numerous examples of toxicity emerge and like Andy, you can’t see the wood for the trees. The standout character is Harriet, Connors younger sister, who has more gumption, common sense and perspicacity than the rest of them put together! The impact of the missing teen is done very well with all the many fractures and tensions that leads up to it and beyond.
However, at the start of the novel it’s way too wordy and overdetailed which feels like unnecessary padding as it gets in the way of a decent mystery. The pace is a bit inconsistent for a while too. Thankfully, that stops not too far into the book and the suspense builds and it becomes gripping with good plot twists and a growing suspect pool and you find yourself fully immersed in the storytelling. There are some relevant issues explored such as toxic friendships and bullying. The are a number of scenes where the author creates an excellent atmosphere especially set around the local woods.
TM Logan‘s books are definitely entertaining and they keep you guessing until the end. They are easy to read with snappy chapters that perfectly matches the action.
With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Bonnier Books, Zaffre for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
Nothing like a new thriller by T.M. Logan to put all of my plans on immediate hold! The story of a family and the teenager that seems to break his curfew kept me highly engaged. Loved it!
I was thrilled to be one of the first to read TM Logan's new thriller, THE CURFEW and it did not disappoint.
Twisty and clever with a compelling sense of dread that had me flying through the pages.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC.
My thanks to NetGalley Bonnier Books Uk for a copy of “ The Curfew” for an honest review.
T M Logan is one of my favourite authors , and I regularly recommend his books when asked for a good thriller.
His work is consistently excellent , well written and suspenseful. All the characters are well rounded and easily relatable.
I think this book would make an excellent reading group book ,and also an absorbing tv show.
Very highly recommended.
TM Logan is at the top of his game - delivering yet another thrilling and highly addictive read.
What can I say about TM Logan that hasn’t already been said? Logan is an expert wordsmith who’s style is a perfect combination of seemingly ‘normal’ day to day living with a singular momentous event. His stories just explode onto the page but it’s the ripple effect of that event and the driving undercurrent of pace and terror that is where TM steps into a league of his own.
TM Logan’s writing is just so absorbing! His characters are so well written and developed they feel real. These people that you get to know and their relationships with each other are so ‘normal’ and relatable it’s easy to imagine that you may know them already or they may be exactly how you would feel or react. Their reactions in particular, and how they interact and respond with each other gives them a gravity that a lot of authors struggle to create let alone maintain.
Now the story itself… totally absorbing and a real cluedo situation. I loved this book, not as much as others in his back catalogue but this one had me hooked from the first chapter. Told predominately from the viewpoint of Callum’s father. You can’t help but feel sorry for this loveable and loving man who just wants to do right by everyone and yet manages to make such a mess of everything he gets involved in! Interspersed throughout the book are the hours and minutes leading to Emily’s disappearance. These parts are told from the key players, the ones that went into the woods and serve as an excellent way of delivering motive for each of the characters.
You’ll be guessing throughout the whole book who is to blame and why they did what they did but I can guarantee you won’t figure out either!
My only disappointment with the book and probably my reason for not a knockout 5 stars is the ending. Whilst thrilling and hugely entertaining I just found it a bit far fetched compared to my thoughts of who/why/when. Also as mentioned above there were a lot of ‘insights’ into various key players and their family members some of these loose ends were tied up but there were some trains of thought that perhaps had too much limelight for an ending that went in a totally new direction.
All in all an excellent read by one of my ‘go-to’ authors! Thank to NetGalley for my advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
YES!!! Thank you so much to Netgalley for a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This book was amazing. Read it in 2 days and highly recommend.
THIS Author can do no wrong.
Love this author! Wow!! Just wow!!… This book is brilliant! More than brilliant, amazing!!!… Absolutely gripping, addictive and captivating… I was absolutely hooked from the first page to the last. I had a complete shock at the twists… Love, love, loved all the characters!!!… I would love to see this made into a movie.
Wow what a rollercoaster this book has taken me on! I absolutely adore this author so have been completely excited and eagerly anticipating this one.
This is unlike any of Logan’s other books, but is equally as high standard as always. In fact, this is an author who gets better and better with every book.
We are introduced to Andy, Laura, Connor and Harry in this one. I have loved Harry, she is just the perfect little genius and quirky in all her own ways. Andy and Laura are the parents who would do anything for their children.
This is a book with an interesting plot, centred around a missing teen. There have been occasions of this one where my heart has literally been pounding. I have devoured page after page desperately wanting to find out where this was going.
I have been completely unable to predict the events of this one. This is an element I love about Logan’s books- they are completely unpredictable. This is a book that has literally transported me, I feel as though I have known the characters. Additionally, I feel as though I have watched the events play out.
This is interesting, intriguing and will make your heart pound. It is completely unpredictable and extremely well-written. This is definitely a book I recommend.
Andy Boyd wakes up in the middle of the night and just wants to satisfy himself that his teenage son, Connor, met his curfew. When he checks his son's room his mind is put at rest by the teenager sound asleep. The next morning everything is thrown into confusion when they discover the teenager trying to sneak out of the house is their nephew Zac and there's no sign of their son. Things then go from bad to worse when they discover that a group of teens, Zac and Connor included, went into the woods and one of the girls has disappeared. Suspicion falls on Connor.
This is a well-developed psychological thriller. The opening is slow and ominous, imparting a sense of dread. You are then immediately hit by a turn of events that has you questioning exactly what has happened.
You really get an understanding of the rising panic the parents feel as they try to understand what has happened and what lengths they will go to to protect their children. There is also the sense of frustration felt by the parents because their teenage son is secretive and refuses to explain what has happened. As parents Andy and Laura know their son is inherently good and honest, but they begin to have doubts.
As all evidence points towards Connor it is up to his father to investigate other possible options and get the police to realise that they are focusing on the wrong person.
Thanks to NetGalley, T.M Logan and Zaffre for the advance review copy of The Curfew.
First up, its worth nothing that I am a huge fan of T.M. Logan and have read and enjoyed all of his books to date. I was super excited when he talked about the release of the Curfew on his life launch of Trust Me last year, and couldn't wait to get stuck in.
The Curfew lives up to my ridiculously high expectations - a domestic family style thriller with believable and relatable characters, which kept me guessing the whole way through.
Andy & Laura's son Conor goes out with friends to celebrate the end of his exams, but must be home by his midnight curfew. When he fails to arrive home it soon becomes apparent that out of the 5 teenagers that went into the woods that night, only 4 made it out. Conor finds himself the prime suspect in Emily's disappearance and Andy is determined to prove his sons innocence.
The book is fast paced and addictive, and I quickly became invested in Conor and his family - particularly his younger sister. You find yourself questioning multiple characters and their motives, who can you trust? Who knows more than they're saying? Did Conor actually hurt Emily? Is his cousin involved?
This book is a great addition to T.M. Logan's already fantastic thriller repertoire so if you're a fan of his others, you wont be disappointed!
Page-turner.
I've not read TM Logan before but I will be remedying that immediately. The Curfew was fast-paced and so absorbing. Brilliantly plotted and written, this thriller had be on the edge of my seat as Andy and Laura tried to protect their son, Connor.
With a missing girl, and so many questions unravelled throughout, this comes highly recommended.
Thanks to Bonnier Books and Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review.
Sixteen-year-old Connor is out with his friends to celebrate the end of term exams. But he must be home at midnight. The five friends, Connor, Emily, Drew and Olivia and his cousin Zac end up going to the nearby woods to hang out. But the end of the night they go their separate ways but only 4 return home.
The story is told by Connor’s dad Andy, with his wife Laura and younger daughter Harriet. At first, Andy gets a phone call from his brother Rob to say that his son Zac hasn’t returned home, and they go searching for him. But when they realise that Zac stayed in Connors Bed and his son didn’t return home that night. When there is a phone call from the police to say that Connor has been arrested for the disappearance of Emily. Emily is the daughter of an actress, and all sorts of accusations appear on social media of what happened that night. Andy knows that this son is innocent and wants to prove the police wrong.
The Curfew by T. M Logan is another gripping, page turner from the author. I am always intrigued to see what book of his comes out next. This has a cleverly written plot and always leaves the reader guessing and guessing of what happens in the plot and quite current to what kids must deal with regarding social media and their peers. 4 stars from me.
Im always sucked straight into a TM Logan book and this was no exception, I couldn't put it down!
Playing on parents' fears of children growing older and being more independent, 'The Curfew' centres around end of term celebrations for a group of 15/16 year olds. Connor is there with his cousin and other friends, but misses his midnight curfew. In the morning, police are knocking at the door as Connor isn't the only participant to have worried his parents.
'The Curfew' builds the atmosphere fantastically, a community where everyone knows each other but will still have secrets to hide, young people reaching for adulthood, family ties and parents learning to let them go despite worries of what might happen in your worst nightmares.
Well plotted with twists and turns that will pull the rug from under your feet - well worth a read
I'm a huge fan so I was excited to get to read this. I was not disappointed!
The plot is fab and kept me reading on. If you're a fan then you will love this and if you're not.....you will still love it.
Another great book by T.M.Logan. Gripped from the first page it had so may twists and turns it made me dizzy. Just when I thought I had figured it out another twist happened which blew my theory out of the water.. A great thriller and I can’t wait to read more by this author. I 100% recommend this book and author.
Well with an author like TM Logan you can't really go wrong. I loved every second of this read. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this book, I’ve read lots of T M Logan and enjoyed them all, and this was no exception. Lots of twists to keep me guessing right up to the end. I’d definitely recommend it
Andy and Laura try to be good parents to their 16-year-old son, Connor, and 12-year-old daughter, Harriet. But they find themselves lying to the police in order to cover for Connor, who missed his midnight curfew after partying with classmates, one of whom – Emily – didn’t come home.
Since five teenagers went into the woods that night, Andy and Laura aren’t the only ones who want to protect their child. And it seems that other parents are willing to point the finger at a scapegoat instead of telling the truth about what happened that night. But time is running out for Emily, and also for Connor.
This is T.M. Logan’s sixth thriller, and, although he has set the bar for himself at an almost unreachable height, it is, in my opinion, his best yet. The pace is spot on, with no repetitiveness and never a dull moment; the characters – good and bad – are all very well-developed, three-dimensional and believable, with some, such as Harriet and Toffee, being rather loveable.
With the recent surge in drink spiking, especially among today’s students in the UK, this book is timely, dealing with a topical issue. The author also raises a question every parent can relate to: how far would you go to protect your child?
I can see this novel being adapted into a very gripping drama for the screen. I can’t recommend The Curfew highly enough, but one caveat: clear your calendar before you start reading it because you won’t work, eat or sleep until you’ve finished it!
Possible spoilers
I wasn't sure about this to begin with.
A few things didn't sit well with me to begin.
To be honest they were soon forgotten as I raced through it.
It's a book where near everybody lies,so you learn not to trust anyone no matter what their motives.
I don't feel I got to know anyone well enough to like or dislike them.
Fast paced and entertaining.
Typical Logan book then?
I was so excited when I got approved for an early read of #TheCurfew as I've devoured every other book that T. M. Logan has written and this one certainly lived up to expectations.
The mystery at the heart of the book was a brilliant drive for the story, and it's a difficult book to put down as you're constantly asking yourself "but what happens next?!". The characters were well-developed and I absolutely loved Harriet and the parts that were told from her perspective.
Another gripping and unputdownable thriller from the amazing T. M. Logan whose catalogue just gets better and better.
