I was expecting more of a technical, instructional book, but instead this was a really interesting chronicle of the journey of the author's father in rebuilding and creating First Nation ceremonies, dances, and rituals. The discussion of how he approached not only the bringing back of the rituals but also the consensus and approval of the community and the elders was fascinating. The section on the first raising of a totem pole in decades was especially fascinating.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an audio copy to listen to and review.

This is a great resource for educators (and Canadians) to have to better understand the history and significance of potlatches. The audio copy was incredible with different people speaking. It was engaging and informative. I really appreciate the descriptions of images that are in the print book. I will be recommending this for my colleagues.

I learned a lot from this brilliant book. It's made more evident to me the need to decolonize the education system. The audiobook was easy to follow, pleasant narration and lots to learn from this gem of a book. I would recommend it to my educators circle and to anyone interested in these subjects. I will be listening to it again and taking notes this time.
