Maeve & Josh are Met police officers who are sent undercover to carry out surveillance on the residents of Jellicoe Close, during a long hot summer.
Acting as a loved up couple, they are moved into the Close as dog-sitters for the adorable Pippin.
Investigating possible human trafficking, they meet an eclectic cast of characters, each with their own secrets and quirks.
There are actually three crimes being investigated in this book, so it's got plenty to get your teeth into.
This book is part of a series, however having not read any of the previous ones, I couldn't muster up much interest in Maeve and Josh's will they, won't they relationship.
That aside this is an excellent crime thriller.

I loved this book. It follows DS Maeve Kerr and DI Josh Derwent as they go undercover as a couple to solve a missing persons case and a suspicious murder. First book I’ve read in this series and I wasn’t disappointed. It makes a good standalone book. It’s so easy to follow.
It has an engaging plot and well written characters. I loved the relationship between Maeve and Josh.
A thoroughly enjoyable read and I’ll definitely read more by this author.
A brilliant police procedural. Definitely recommend.
Thanks to #NetGallery #HarperCollinsUK for an arc of #TheClose in exchange for an honest review.

I have read all the books in this series and am therefore closely acquainted with Maeve and Josh. I thoroughly enjoyed the book - the will they won't they relationship is both irritating and compelling. I think that I prefer the more standard detective aspect of the rest of the series but that is a personal choice. This is therefore not my first choice in the series. I do however love the characters and the way the plots are written and look forward to reading more. Highly recommend

Thanks to Harper Collins and Netgalley for the ARC.

DS Maeve Kerrigan is burnt out and doing badly after the end of a dangerous relationship, and a lot of hard work on terrible cases. She's running on empty.
When she and her DI Josh Derwent are offered the chance to go undercover in a suburban cut de sac, dog sitting and looking into a potential modern slavery case, Derwent thinks it will be good for Kerrigan to be away from her flat and the station. They pose as a couple (something they find tricky for a few reasons, but something readers of the rest of the series will relish for its comedic and other potential) and start to get to know the neighbours, maintaining their cover while working on their other cases from 'home', including a brutal murder.
Suburbia is strange, of course, as are the people in it. The writing as skilled as you'd expect from Casey and the plot keeps propelling the reader into the next chapter. There is a sense of genuine peril at play.
Some readers will hate the 'will they won't they' romance aspect of the long standing professional pairing (no spoilers here). The book can easily be read as a standalone. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Thanks to Netgalley & Harper Collins for this ARC. I genuinely squealed when I got the notification!

Where to even start?

Pulled from another murder case, Maeve & Josh have to go undercover as a loved up couple on dog sitting duties, surveiling the residents of Jellicoe Close during a hot relentless summer.

Did I need more of #Kerrwent in their domestic bliss? I absolutely did and I 100% would have been happy if that's all the book was. But, once again, Jane Casey has written an amazing police procedural thriller. Just when you think you have it all figured out, you absolutely realise you don't. Nothing like some boring old suburbia to make you question everyone and everything.

I very rarely make it to number 10 in a book series as I feel writers run out of steam with the same characters but this isn't the case with Josh, Maeve & everyone in the Met murder squad and I honestly can't wait for number 11.

The set up didn’t work for me here, and I struggled to get past it. But enjoyable as a police procedural and the characters are interesting. I like the series overall so would give others a go.

I've dipped in and out of the Maeve Kerrigan/Josh Derwent books over the years, and this one has put me in the mood for a binge read, so in the near future I'll be heading back to book 1 and devouring them all in order.
Although part of a series, The Close is easy to read as a standalone. Despite not having read the previous one in the series, Casey dropped enough backstory for me to a. keep up and b. whet my appetite to go back to read Maeve's previous experiences first hand.
Undercover on The Close in the sweltering sumer heat lends itself to several sizzling and sultry moments - but that's all I'm saying about those. With the investigation into the murder of a local doctor still ongoing back in London, as well as pretending to be dewy eyes lovebirds, Maeve and Josh have to juggle supporting their colleagues back home and getting to the the bottom of a possible people trafficking ring based in The Close.
With a third person narrative from a n evil villain upping the creepy stakes, parts of this novel made my skin crawl )in a good way as a reader)
What I liked most about The Close was that I very quickly became immersed in the story and the puzzle. of discovering who the evil predator was and how Maeve and Josh's official investigation slotted in to that. With a wide cast of very distinct and well developed characters to choose from I found myself swithering betwen two of tem as 'creepy guy' . The Close explored many themes including trafficking, how what you see on the outside of a family isn't necessarily what's going on on the inside, sexual predators, jealousy, narcisssism and more.
I really enjoyed this,. A solid 4*

Thank you to #Netgalley and #HarperCollins for my copy of #TheClose by #JaneCasey
DS Maeve Kerrigan and DI Josh Derwent are posing as a couple and dog sitting, on a perfectly normal suburban street.
Living on The Close they know secrets are hidden behind the doors but which door, and how far will they go to keep their secret.
Great read and terrific finish.

This is an amazing read from a wonderful author!
Dr Hassan, who was married to Cameron from the Close, is murdered in a hospital car park. Josh and Maeve go undercover at the Close and discover lots of secrets held by the neighbours. They are determined to find out what happened to Dr Hassan.
There is great interaction between Josh and Maeve. It is fascinating to realise how fully immersed undercover officers must be.
I loved the fact that everyone is a suspect, and there is a sinister subplot as well.

This was rather a long drawn out murder mystery rather than a thriller. I'm afraid I didn't really gel with the detectives Maeve and Josh and found a lot of tge undercover relationship a bit predictable. I found there were too many characters introduced all at once as neighbours in Jellicoe Close and found myself confused as to who was who. Not really gritty enough for me.

I have had to ration myself to a few pages each day as i didn’t want this book to end! I love Maeve and Josh and when they go undercover together they have to act as a couple and this means stretching their relationship to its limits.

As always, this is a fantastic book from Jane Casey

Two horrific crimes and an interesting relationship forming between the main players. We all know Casey is a skilled writer but she’s pulled out all the stops with this one.

The close is a perfect surban street with perfect families . Behind the perfect image lies many dark secrets some of which are deadly.

Undercover Maeve and her boss Josh pose as loving couple moving in to solve one mystery but inearthing manymore burued secrets.

This was a fantastic well written book that kept me hooked with every page. It has theright balance of romance, thriller, mystery and suspense.

All the characters are well developed and the established lead characters in the series reenforce its never to late to reread the previousnovels in the series. However this also works well as a standalone novel by a very talented writer.
There are many powerful twists and turns . I am very pleased the main parts of the story were resolved. I can clearly see the main characters have quite a bit of scope in the next novel on the series.

Thank you so much for the arc i look forward to the next book by a talented authors

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was well written and easy to read with a very clever plot and a satisfying ending. I have read a couple more of the books in the series so was aware of the ‘relationship’ between DS Maeve Kerrigan and DI Josh Derwent, otherwise I might have been a bit confused. This time they go under cover, and as usual there are twists and turns, secrets coming out everywhere, and a few thrills down the line. I’m looking forward to the next one. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the arc, it was a great read.

I would never chose to read a romance book, sorry but just not my thing. If I had known that romance was a big part of this book I wouldn't have picked it to read. I thought the rest of the book was okay but overall not a great read for me.

I’m pleased to be part of the Random Things Tours blog tour for The Close by Jane Casey. Here is my review of this murder mystery, book 10 in the Maeve Kerrigan books.
I received a copy of this book for a free and unbiased opinion.
This was my first Maeve Kerrigan book and I can safely say that this won’t be my last. I could jump straight into the Maeve backstory and the complicated relationship with her bosses without any problem, so you definitely don't need to have read the previous book to enjoy this one.
The book doesn’t just deal with the main mystery in the blurb but two other equally engrossing mysteries.
The story is fast-paced but there is plenty of humour and tension. The tense will- they or won't they relationship between Kerrigan and Derwent is one of the highlights. Maeve herself is a complex character and the description of her overcoming her recent trauma is well-written.
The residents of Jellicoe Close are equal measures of creepy and neighbourly and while I initially wished my neighbours were as friendly as them- a view which changed by the end!
I didn’t guess who the murderer was by the end and I felt satisfied by the resolution of all the various crime stories.
I can’t wait to read more from Jane Casey

Jane never fails to surprise me. She has pulled it out of the bag again - a real cracker of a read. The way the storyline unfolds, and each character develops, it sticks its claws into you and doesn’t let you go until the final page.

4.5 Stars from me

Super engrossing and enjoyable, The Close by Jane Casey is a perfect crime thriller.

Sent undercover to this seemingly idyllic little close, DS Maeve Kerrigan and DI Josh Derwent find themselves pitted together in a 'will they, won't they' situation while trying to solve a case. I normally find tropes like that one a bit unnecessary in crime thrillers but it really worked in this story and certainly added a little something to the tale.

I found The Close light enough to not be a scary or depressing read, yet tense and fast paced with a multi-layered storyline that kept my interest.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and will be looking out for more from this author.

This is the first book of the DS Maeve Kerrigan series that I've read (there are 10 altogether) and I'm interested in reading more.

It was an interesting mixture of multiple crimes to solve and a slow burn romance that has apparently been building in the other books in the series. Hard hitting storylines, the author isn't scared to tackle unsavoury subjects and does so with professionalism and empathy.

There were enough twists and turns to keep me interested and my only complaint would be that it got a little confusing at times.
