This is the first book I have read by Jane Casey, but it won't be my last. I really enjoyed this one. Such a great thriller and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Another great book from Jane Casey, DS Maeve Kerrigan returns in book 10 of the series and this hasn’t lost any of it gritty drama.
Maeve is drawn into the lives of the residents of Jellicoe Close when her and DI Josh Derwent go undercover to solve the murder of a young man.
Unbeknownst to the pair something more sinister is going on and danger is never far away.

I cannot wait for the next instalment in this series
Thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins for a copy of this book, well worth a read for any thriller lovers.

Another thrilling read from Jane Casey in the Maeve Kerrigan series. As always one of the hottest will they/ won’t they duos… this time Derwent & Maeve are living together, for a case…but sparks fly. A gripping case too, with every neighbour in The Close definitely a suspect! Unputdownable! I can’t wait for the next one!

This book truly felt like fan service, in the best way.

Tension simmered from start to finish, not just between the detectives but from the mystery side of things as well. The mystery kept me guessing (and second guessing) throughout, and was a satisfying reveal at the end. I immediately reread the book once I had finished, and have been itching for the next instalment of the series ever since!

The first time I read this book I dnf it as I wasn’t really feeling the book. This made me quite sad as I have loved all of the authors previous books in the series. Then when I found out there was another coming out in the series I picked it up again. I was so glad that I did!!
the book is not the usual fast paced solving the crimes that it usually is. The book is very centred around the characters. Maeve and Josh are sent on an undercover job and are living together. The sexual tension between them oozes from the pages and there were so many times I was feeling disappointed by them not just kissing.
I read the authors note that this was intended to be a split between crime and romance and it was nailed perfect. It is not the best of the series but it is a great read and I was fully invested in the developments of Maeve and Josh’s relationship. I would have liked more of the crime story to feature but overall I really enjoyed it and looking forward to the 11th instalment of the series

Another banger from Casey, as always. We have Maeve and Josh posing as an undercover couple in a town called Jellicoe Close, which holds the most eeriest and sinister atmosphere, not helped by the strange actions of the neighbours' who all have something to hide...
Following the traumatic actions of The Cutting Place (previous book in the series), it is more than evident that Maeve is struggling highly with intimacy, trust, and her sense of self. Her monologues of not being able to remember why she had been doing something, forcing herself to think of what to say, losing her focus at work, all collectively work to create a sense of dread and pity for her and how much her trauma has been affecting her. This behaviour from her however, obviously does not go unnoticed by Derwent, who always seems to have his eye on her.
Whilst they have to go undercover, with much reluctance from Maeve but eventually caves in, one thing that I seemed to love is how Derwent somewhat more patient and kinder with Maeve in general, unbeknownst to her, such as keeping the intimate touches when having to prove they're a couple to a minimum which considering Derwent's alpha, macho behaviour seems unlikely.
As well as the terrible crimes that Maeve and Josh have to unfold in Jellicoe Close, Maeve and Georgia is also working on another separate crime of the murder of Hassan Dawoud, which I personally enjoyed as it brought Maeve and Georgia closer together, and to an extent redeemed Georgia's character for me despite her character in the previous books + novella (Silent Kill), most likely since she's gotten a boyfriend and doesn't seem desperate for every guy in the workplace and sees every woman as a threat.
Lurking beneath the shadows, is our killer that Maeve and Josh is unknown of. We receive their POV in separate chapters, which if you listen to on Audible, the introduction of a brand new narrator is so wonderfully eerie and brings these POVs to life!
Another wonderful performance on Audible as well, by Caroline Lennon, who never fails to create such strong emotion into the characters...
A town full of lies, deception and "happy" houses with "happy" families, nothing is what it seems. A Detective Sergeant and her Detective Inspector with years of sexual tension and spicy moments throughout the book pretending to be a couple....A certain neighbour whose taken a certain interest in Maeve... abuse, trauma, romance, death, horror, this book contains it all.. Breaking the cycle of abuse, learning intimacy after traumatic experiences, exploring the possibility of a new life away from work, family secrets.. everyone including Maeve and Josh are all on a discovery of their own, dilemmas which face answers now.

But will time run out for them?

A brilliant detective novel that had me really intrigued and hooked from the start. This has made me want to read the rest of the series as im super invested in Maeve Kerrigans story and especially her love interests! This really kept me guessing and had just the right amount of suspense and suspicion throughout! Loved it and would definitely reccomend.

As always, Jane Casey writes an absorbing, well-plotted crime mystery, thriller with top level character development.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every book in this series since its first publication and it’s always an exciting day when a new book is released- The Close is by no means an exception to that. However, to really get the highs from this book, I’d recommend reading the. books in order to appreciate the build of tension and character/relationship building between the our lead Maeve Kerrigan and her attract/repeal boss Josh Derwent. Although, in The Close, it’s more attract for me. - Casey has slowly revealed and unpicked many character nuances and misdirected traits in this complex pair. I squealed several times.
This book has the Kerrigan/Derwent relationship at the foremost position but there’s also a satisfying crime or two to solve.
Top recommendation from me! Loved it!

I absolutely loved this book. Loved! Loved! Loved! One of my favourite things on tv shows is when the two detectives/agents/partners have to go undercover in a suburban setting as a married couple and this is an entire book of it! Maeve and Josh have very sneakily (slow burn queen Jane Casey) become one of my favourite non couple couples and if I’d had to pick a scenario for them this was it. The plot was intriguing, complex and the suspects were constantly jostling for that number 1 spot. I can’t recommend this to mystery/thriller fans enough.

I absolutely loved this! I'm a big fan of the Mauve Kerrigan series and this one didn't disappoint. It's got a very different vibe to the other books, in such a good way. Believable characters, tightly plotted and utterly unputdownable. You need to read this!

DS Maeve Kerrigan is investigating a murder in the hospital car park when she’s sent undercover with DI Josh Derwent, looking into a modern slavery case linked to a small village close. But is there something more sinister going on in the community? Can Maeve and Josh discover all the secrets before their cover is blown?

The Close is a slow starter, but once the action moves out to the small community it picks up the pace nicely. The interaction Maeve has with the different households works well, and as their individual secrets are revealed, the identity of the mystery man becomes less clear. The build up to the final unravelling was a gripping read. There were quite a few cliffhanger moments which then proved very tame and at times disappointing, but overall a thrilling story and a great read.

The tenth book in the DS Maeve Kerrigan series. A great read though I felt it was a little ‘padded’ out in places. I love the relationship between Maeve and Josh, and the banter they have . The storyline had me gripped from the start, highly recommend

I was so late to this series that the first book I read was The Cutting Place. Needless to say I went right back to the beginning to read them all in order so I was dying to read The Close. Honestly my favourite thing about this series is Maeve and Josh. I love their relationship so I was interested to see what would happen in this book. It’s a really great story, and I was hooked right from the beginning. I’m already bereft after finishing it. Never not highly recommending this series!
